“Our Town” 16—18th August , Ponton Theatre CSU
The play was directed and adapted by our very own Cassandra Burt, and performed by a very
talented cast and crew from Years 7-12. Performed over three days and nights ―Our Town‖
captivated audiences with a tale of life, love and death.
For the cast, months of rehearsals, stress and sleep deprivation culminated in the production,
as finally the lines, cues, music, lighting and costumes were woven together to create a pol-
ished performance.
Melissa McKinnon, who played Mrs Webb described the play as
―An amazing experience that will leave us with memories for a
lifetime‖. Written by Disapol Savetsila Yr. 11 Our Music Department were busy last
term with bands performing in
different arenas, from the Bathurst
Eisteddfod to the Sydney Opera House.
Many students, including those in Vocal
Group, were also involved in preparation
for Year 12's practical HSC Exam which
were held last term.
The Yr.12 HSC students produced some
outstanding performances and are very
grateful for the support they have received
from younger musicians and the music staff
in helping them achieve their goals .
Congratulations to all involved.
Drama HSC practical exams took
place on the 1st September. The
students performed well in both
their Group and Individual Perfor-

Greenwich. What is the time in Cape Town when it is 1pm in
Perth?
The heights of the players in a basketball team were recorded
as 1.8m, 1.83m, 1.84m, 1.86m and 1.92m. When a sixth play-
er joined the team, the average height of the players increased
by 1 cm. What was the height of the sixth player?

How wonderful it is to read through this newsletter and see the wonderful experiences students are enjoying - from engaging in
high level academic pursuits to enjoying curriculum-based excursions. It is great to recognise our students for their
outstanding efforts – consider David Jewkes and Brianna Wade with their Minister‘s Awards for Excellence. I had the pleasure
of being a guest at the reception where their achievements were highlighted and applauded. A very proud moment indeed!
We have been encouraging students to tell us of their achievements and greatly appreciate parents ringing Student Advisers to
inform them of their child‘s successes in activities undertaken after school or on weekends. We love to celebrate effort and
achievement.
During the upcoming weeks, teachers are preparing Semester 2 reports. If you are unsure of any assessments needing to be
completed, please contact the front office to organise time speaking with your child‘s Student Adviser.
Currently we are re-examining our Attendance Policy and procedure. One way parents can assist is to make sure that an
explanation note for absence is submitted by your child to their Roll Call teacher within three days of the child‘s return to
school. Please contact us if your child is sick and will be absent for a long period of time.
The Local Schools, Local Decisions consultation continues. Please contribute by going to the DEC website and following the
links to the on-line survey. Your views on what schools should be responsible and accountable for are valuable. We encourage
participation in this consultation process.
Building work on the establishment of the Trade Training Centre is almost complete. I look forward to updating you on the
new Timber, Metal, Food Technology and Aquaculture facilities.

News From The Senior School
Year 12
Year12 are now well into their HSC exams and many students
will be finished this week. I hope all students going away for a
break after the exams will keep themselves safe and that they
are back ready for the Graduation Ball on Friday 18th November
2011 at Panthers.
I request that students keep in contact with their Year Advisers
and when they gain employment of a TAFE or University
placement could they please let them know.
Year 11
Preliminary students have now commenced their HSC academ-
ic year. Last Tuesday each student was interviewed by members
of the Senior Team as many were wishing to change their pat-
tern of study. The interviews allowed for checking of attend-
ance, behaviour and application and they served as a way of
reinforcing the school‘s expectations for senior students. It is
very important to make this a formal process as HSC require-
ments for the award of a Certificate and/or an ATAR are very
strict.
Ms Dunshea and Mr Petersen also discussed expectations and
HSC requirements with students the previous week and all stu-
dents received a Board of Studies booklet outlining the 2012
HSC Rules and Procedures.
Year 10
The School Certificate Examination commences on Monday, 7th
November and concludes with the Computer Skills Test on Fri-
day, 11th November, although we should complete the Comput-
er Skills test on Thursday.
Presentation Night will be on the evening of the 30th November
and any student receiving an award is requested to attend even
if they are on work experience that week.
Year 10 will commence their holidays on Friday, 9th December.
On that day there will be a Year 10 Commendation Assembly at
10.00 am in the school hall, to which parents are invited. School
Certificates will be handed out at this assembly. All students are
expected to attend this ceremony and full school uniform is to
be worn.
A detailed letter outlining Year 10 activi-
ties for the rest of 2011 and a calendar
outlining the Post School Certificate
events has been given to all students.

School Captains 2012
The Bathurst High Campus Year 10 debating team travelled to
Sydney on the 19th and 20th of October to take part in the Prem-
ier‘s Debating Challenge State semi-final. After defeating Fort
Street, a selective high school in the quarter final, we found
ourselves up against Penrith, another selective high school.
The topics on the day included: ‗That we should tax fatty
foods‘; ‗That Australian political parties should hold open pri-
maries to select their candidates‘, and ‗That Mathematics should
be compulsory for all secondary years‘. Both teams chose to
debate ‗That we should tax fatty foods‘ and Bathurst High was
the negative.
The debate was very close and the adjudicators praised both
teams for the intellectual quality of their arguments and high
standard of debating skills. After a considered deliberation by
the panel of three adjudicators, the debate was awarded to Pen-
rith High.
The team of Anne Murray, Alex Neary, Tyler Graves and Han-
nah Lepaio are to be congratulated on their outstanding skills
and commitment. Bring on Mulvey Cup 2012.
