About to Rock
BC/DC is playing at Shakmans Bar & Lounge this Friday, April 28. Rock to the ‘Ultimate Rock & Roll Salute’ with this amazing tribute to AC/DC. Raw energy, jump kicks, guitar stunts and more, these guys bring it all. They have played in huge venues, including the Grey Cup Halftime Show last fall. Shakmans opens at 6 pm that evening. Check out the renovations and enjoy a delicious dinner or a snack from their new kitchen and menu. It is a great spot. The show goes from 11 pm to 2 am. It will be an incredible rock & roll adventure full of songs that we all know and love to hear. I will be there. I hope you will too. Tickets are $15 in advance at Syndicate Board Shop, Fire Vixen Emporium and at Shakmans or at the door for $20.
Small Thing
I saw a midget prisoner climbing down a ladder. He turned and sneered at me. I thought that was a little condescending.
Meet the Friesians
This Sunday, April 30, ‘The Caravan’ docu-
ments the 2,500 mile journey across Amer-ica using only the pull of Friesian horses of Toby Benches resident Gerard Paagman. Watch as adventurers grapple with route-finding, Mother Nature and unexpected obstacles in an epic horse-drawn journey across America. Ages 11 to 79, they travel through iconic landscapes, up and over mountains, through vast deserts, pine for-ests, Bayous and back roads. The doors open at the Invermere Commu-nity Hall at 6 pm and the show begins at 7 pm. Tickets are $20 at Best Western or online at www.ColumbiaValleyCentre.ca. You are invited to show up at 5 pm to meet the famous Friesians at the hall. All funds raised go towards the new Community Centre.
Fairmont Highway Cleanup
The Fairmont Lions are hosting their an-nual highway cleanup session on Satur-day, May 6. Volunteers meet at 10 am sharp at the highway turnoff to the resort. Everyone is invited to come along and help out. There will be refreshments to follow at the Lions’ Den.

Robservations
It is not always the easiest thing to do but it is important to do the right thing whenever possible. Every day we have to make a lot of decisions around what we are doing. Often we choose our actions by what we think others want us to do or be. It is a very stressful system trying to fit in and impress other people. And it takes a lot of energy. But it is important that we make our own decisions and do what we know is right. Sometimes that might be standing up for someone against a group of ‘bullies’ or judgers. It might mean helping someone when we have very little spare time or spare energy. Do not be afraid to make a mistake. They say that good judgment comes from ex-perience and that experience comes from bad judgment. You make a lot of choices in life and what you choose will often affect who you are. So try to do what feels good in your heart. Decide many times every day to be a good person who is helpful and cares about others, not what others think.
Volunteers
I am not much into doing volunteer work but I am very good at volunteering my opinion.

Watson’s
Waddle
I love this season. Rob takes me for a walk and it takes forever to go a short distance as there are so many new and fresh things out there for me to sniff. Plus we are getting to go to lots of places that I haven’t seen for months. Back roads, beautiful campgrounds and pretty lakes are starting to come back into our days. I love chasing the gophers and squirrels. It is fun. It is tick season though. As a Bassett Hound I hang pretty low to the ground. I am an easy target for ticks, especially with the grasses getting longer and all the bushes and forests that we explore. Ticks can be scary but I enjoy tick season. It means that I get a very thorough rub-down from Rob when we get home. I guess he is checking closely for ticks on me. It is really nice. Please be aware and careful of ticks in the spring. Check your pets on a regular basis. They will love the bonding experience.
What Year Was It?
The Ford Motor Company introduced the 40-hour work week while Pontiac cars just began production. The first public televi-sion was demonstrated, aerosol sprays were invented and Gene Tunney defeated Jack Dempsey for the world heavyweight championship. Marilyn Monroe and David Attenborough were born and Harry Houdini and Rudolph Valentino died. What year was it? See page 9.
Dog Food
Watson is really starting to worry about food costs. It now takes $2 to fill his food bowl which is $14 in dog money.

Donate Your ‘Treasures’
The Rotary Club of Invermere has their annual garage sale coming up in May. They are asking for and accepting dona-tions of your idle ‘treasures’ for the sale. It will be a huge 2-day sale. Raising Cain
It is a strange conundrum. I am trying to raise my children to be independent, head-strong people. Just not while they are with me.
The Thrifty Reporter
Last week was National volunteer week and a big shout out to the Invermere Thrift Store volunteers. Have you seen how much money is raised by the volunteers? Check the poster in the window. This week I would like to say “thank you” to all who drop off donations. It is a win-win situation. Without donations, there would be nothing to sell. Without anything to sell, there would be no money to donate back into the community health care. It all starts with donations. Please be con-siderate when dropping off items. They need to be clean and in working condition or they cannot be sold. Items can be dropped off at the back of the store be-tween 9 am-5 pm daily.

Inside ICAN
Swifty, reporting for ICAN Rescue and Adoption Facility. I may just be a kitten, but at ICAN I’ve already met some of the greatest humans. These ICAN volunteers don’t mess around with the pets, and for that we want to say a big thank you for all that you do! We know your time isn’t just filled with cud-dles and love but we don’t want to hear about that boring, yet oh so satisfying to curl up on, paperwork. ICAN volunteers have helped 174 companion animals this year and counting! So if you know an ICAN volunteer give them an extra thank you this week, for being a top-notch loving human. Canadian Sports Trivia Answer

Wednesday Night Trivia
There are only a couple of weeks left of the Wednesday Night Trivia at The Station Neighbourhood Pub so you better get down there and check it out. If you haven’t been there, you will be amazed at how many folks are there for a fun evening. The cost is only $2/person and you can have up to 6 folks on your team. Be there for a 7 pm start. Prizes are all the entry money and a sponsored prize by a local business. Thanks to Weaver Bee Com-pany for the honey last week.
Politics
Well you can certainly tell when there is an upcoming election. The media begins to fill up with letters that either criticize an oppo-nent or defend an action. There is a lot of negativity. It would be nice to see some positive stuff on occasion. You know, plans for improve-ments in fields such as cost of living, edu-cation, health care, employment, govern-ment services and more. It would be nice to see a candidate that was actually in touch with the people. Regardless, someone has to win, both locally and provincially. Make sure your voice is heard by getting out and voting.

It Was That Year
(From page 4) In 1926, ‘Winnie the Pooh’ was published, the first successful flight over the North Pole took place and William Lyon Mackenzie King became Prime Min-ister of Canada.
Side by Side
I met a pair of Siamese twins last year. They told me they move between England and America so that they can both take turns driving.
How About France?
France is going through an election these days and the people have definitely spo-ken. They have a system where they nar-row it down to 2 candidates and then vote again in two weeks. Currently, the 2 candidates are independ-ents that are not affiliated with either of the two major parties. They are ready for change! Big time. Always remember that every vote counts. Many Canadians don’t vote because they think their vote might be a ‘wasted’ vote. There is no such thing.

New Hot Case
I love the deli at AG Valley Foods. They always have incredible food in the hot and cold sections. I enjoy their meals on a regular basis. Check out their new Hot Case. It will carry the same great hot food options plus a whole new variety of hot food options. Our number of choices is quickly growing. It is wonderful.
Where I Was
The photo on page 6 is of a float (Invermere Public Library) from a past Canada Day Parade. It is a reminder that this is Canada’s 150th birthday and a huge parade is in order. So I invite all businesses and organiza-tions to get a float together. It doesn’t have to be much, but it is a great chance to showcase your group. I also know that it is a very busy day. But remember the parade and festivities are what bring a lot of the people to the valley. So this is your early reminder to get think-ing about your float.
Poverty
I never carry my pay stub in my vehicle. If I die in an accident I don’t want people to assume it was suicide.
Tips from the Pro
How do I straighten out my slice? One of the more common swing problems, the slice is usually caused by a club path that cuts across the ball, imparting more side-spin than backspin. To fix a slice you will need to change your swing direction so that the club is delivered on a path that is straight through the ball. Focus on aligning your shoulders to the target line and increase your shoulder turn on your backswing to 90 degrees. This will change the path of the club as it sweeps through the ball instead of hitting down and across the ball. Jeremy Johnson, FHSR.
Mobility Methods
Are you having issues with mobility? The Home Health division of Invermere Pharmasave (downstairs) can help you out. They have a selection of canes, crutches, walkers, scooters, wheelchairs and more. Inquire about their rental pro-gram for any of their products. Stop in soon and check out all of their products.

Luggage
A photon is checking in at the airport and the attendant asks if he has any luggage. “No,” he says. “I’m travelling light.”
Marketing
This is the time of year that things begin to pick up in the valley. As the golf courses and hiking trails open up, more and more guests come to the valley. Is your business reaching its full potential? Are you doing a good job reaching them with your advertising? The Valley Peak reaches everyone in the valley. Locals and visitors look forward to the light reading of local information and jokes. Last weekend, nearly every issue printed was gone from the racks quickly and there has been huge growth in the number of website visits. Advertising in The Valley Peak is very af-fordable (as low as $24/week). Ads pay for themselves many times over. Email [email protected] and I will send you a complete information package for advertis-ing.
Good Run
Oh that was a good run and a tough loss for the Leafs. Hopefully they can carry that effort into next season. Congrats and good luck to the Oilers and the Senators. Go Canada go.
Water is Good
I love water. I love swimming, fishing, ca-noeing and more. I love the sound of a stream as it gurgles and churns past me. I
love the sight of life as it surrounds a wa-terway. I love watching the birds exploring a body of water. And so much more. I also love drinking water. It is the best quencher of my thirst out there. And my body loves it. Water is good for you. Drink lots of it and your body will thank you. Re-search shows that often when we think we are hungry it is actually thirst that we are experiencing. Enjoy a nice glass of water.
Naturopathic Living
Naturopath Linda Kodnar says, “Immune systems improve when lymphatic flow is improved through mild exercise and proper eating. This allows for the cells of the im-mune response to do their jobs more eas-ily.” “For instance attacking bacteria and vi-ruses is much more efficient without having to sort through congestion in our bodies created by poor filtration systems and lack of circulation.” So a bit of exercise and a healthy diet can contribute to a stronger immune system and a happier, healthier you.
