DISCLAIMER The Bass Coast Historical Automobile Club Inc., its Officers and Committee cannot be held liable for any errors and/or omissions in articles, reports, notices, advertisements, comment and advice of events that are published in this News-letter in good faith.

PRESIDENT’S LETTER Hello BCHAC Members I hope you are all well and enjoying our spring weather, it’s very pleasant to be able to sit outside on the decking for breakfast. Having spent the last couple of days on a hiking trip at Wilsons Prom we are grateful to the groups of people who in the late 1940’s started lobbying the State Government of the day to cam-paign for an improvement of the Victorian national park system. It was not until 1956 that the Victorian Government finally took no-tice and passed the National Parks Act, which resulted in the for-mation of what is now known as Parks Victoria, with an original staff of 12, some of these only part time rangers and a very small budget we have ended up with a magnificent end result. Today we have some 45 National Parks in Victoria covering some 28,000 km2 along with 12 marine national parks, 11 marine sanc-tuaries and a area of 155km2 of the sea off Wilson’s Prom pro-tected. Go forth and enjoy this wonderful asset. Graham

Vale It is with much regret that the club has learned of the passing of member Ian Gladstone. The club extends its condolences to fam-ily and friends.

Watch for Wildlife. Across South Gippsland a high incidence and large variety of na-tive wildlife wanders on our roads. As a consequence, the roadkill carnage is extensive. More than 100 of our native animals are killed each year on local roads and many more are injured. The “Watch for Wildlife” Group was established in response to the trauma experienced by local people having to deal with deaths and injuries to wildlife. We have a membership of 10 active local resi-dents, and many more who support us with signs and information in local businesses, caravan parks and motels. The “Watch for Wildlife mission is to stop all injuries and deaths among our wildlife. Our area is unusual in the abundance of wildlife, particularly around the Tarwin, Walkerville and Foster area. Some are killed throughout the year, and most are killed during public holidays, particularly long weekends. More wildlife is killed on these roads as visitor numbers increase. We are asking all drivers to be aware of the wildlife and slow down, especially at night, when passing through areas of bush. Awareness of wildlife, and at appropriate times reduced speed, on local roads should lead to increased safety for residents, visitors and the wildlife. Fewer injuries and deaths will reduce emotional trauma and provide greater delight in the natural environment. Primarily it is about reducing the death and injuries to wildlife but also consider the associated costs of animal collisions arising for car repairs. Local drivers who know the high wildlife activity times and slow their driving accordingly, can almost totally avoid collisions with animals. Slowing down and being aware is very effective. - and you could prevent a lot of expensive damage to your car or even serious injury to you or your passengers.

Brainteaser

This month’s Puzzle There was a robbery in which a lot of goods were stolen. The rob-bers) left in a truck. It is known that : (1) Nobody else could have been involved other than A, B and C. (2) C never commits a crime without A's participation. (3) B does not know how to drive. So, is A innocent or guilty?

Solution from the last puzzle. Surprisingly there is a way to make certain you find the key. First, assume the key is in an even numbered box, Check No2. If it’s there you’re out. If not it was in 4 and is now in 3 or 5. Check 3. If there all is well, if not it was in 5 and is now in 4. Check 4 and if there you’re out. If not the original assumption was wrong and it started in an odd numbered box and af-ter three moves must now be in an even num-bered box. Using the same logic as above checking 2, 3 and 4 will free you in a maximum of 6 days - possibly less

A policeman pulls over an old man in a ute because the back of his ute is full of ducks. The officer says, “Sir, it is unacceptable to have this flock of ducks in the city centre, take them to the Zoo this in-stant!” The old man confirms that he will and drives off. The next day the officer sees the same man in the same ute still full of ducks. Only this time all the ducks are wearing sunglasses. The officer pulls him over again and yells, “I told you to take these ducks to the Zoo!” The old man replies, “I did! But today they want to go to the beach!”

Charity Rally - Cancer Council

Both Dale Thorn and Nathan Leversha are pleased to announce that they taking part in Shitbox Rally 2019 Spring!! This year, all the teams are driving their shitboxes from Melbourne to Townsville, via Birds-ville... Shitbox Rally is the largest community lead fundraiser for the Cancer Council in Australia and is now in its 10th year. Part of the par-ticipation is that all teams have to raise a minimum of $5,000 but most teams raise well above this amount as you can see with the 2019 Spring rally target set at $2,000,000 plus. Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,000, this year for the 10th year anni-versary rally, over a 7 day across Australia endeavour to raise money for cancer research. The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehi-cles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Austra-lia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends. Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Can-cer Council nationally. These funds go to the Cancer Council and we are extremely proud to be doing our part to support such a worthy charity. The fundraising is the hard part, so any donation you can give is greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate you can via the following link or just bring it along to any car club meeting. https://2019spring.shitboxrally.com.au/bugboys/donate Thanks again to the Bass Coast Historical automobile club for the amazing support. Nathan and Dale.
