OCTOBER ACTIVITIES AT BETHEL
FAITH EXPLORERS MEETINGS RESUME ON OCTOBER 6
Faith Explorers participants and their adult leaders will meet in the Gathering Place for the first time this year
on Sunday, October 6 from 6-7:30 PM. Young people in FaithX meet three times a month to study Martin
Luther's small catechism, to meet with adult guides to pray and discuss faith issues, and to share in fellowship
and service activities. Please remember all of the FaithX participants in your prayers.
PREPARATIONS BEING MADE FOR CONFIRMATION ON OCTOBER 27
During October, five of our young people who have participated in Faith Explorers for two years,
Max Ciccarello, Leah Leidy, Max Reardon and Hannah Zwolenik will be exploring the opportunities they
have to serve Jesus in our congregation. After hearing faith stories of our adult leaders, and learning about the
ministries at Bethel, they will meet with Pastor Krebill and decide if they are ready to affirm their faith in the
Rite of Confirmation on Reformation Sunday, October 27. Please keep these young people in your prayers as
they participate in this process.
Stewardship Commitment Sunday is

Fulfilling God’s Purpose
C.S. Lewis said, “There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, ‘Thy will be done,’ and those to whom
God says, ‘All right, then, have it your way.’ ” As redeemed children of God, of course, we desire to belong to
that first category, “Thy will be done.”
On Sundays October 6, 13 and 20 the theme of our worship services will be Fulfilling God’s Purpose! We will
learn how the Holy Spirit, working through Word and Sacrament, transforms us to be more like our Chief
Steward, Jesus, who willingly poured out his life in giving and serving, ultimately sacrificing his very life for
our eternal lives.
May each of us take advantage of these opportunities to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord that we
might be strengthened in faith both for eternity and for a fruitful life here on earth.
The particular themes for the three Sundays are as follows:
Sunday October 6- “Building Relationships”
Sunday October 13 “Witnessing for Jesus”
Sunday October 20 “Living as a Servant” “Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:58).

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 3RD
, ALL SAINTS’ SUNDAY
BAPTISMS AND RECEPTION OF NEW MEMBERS
We will welcome new members into our community of faith on Sunday, November 3 through Baptism and
Affirmation of Baptism. Their names, pictures and biographical information will be posted in the hallway
outside the Gathering Place. Please give a warm welcome to these new members of our community in Christ!
ALL SAINTS' SUNDAY REMEMBRANCE
Also, on All Saints' Sunday, November 3, at both services of worship, we will remember in the prayers
the names of all of our friends and loved ones who have died in the Christian faith in the past year. In the
church office, we have the names of all members of Bethel who have died, but not the names of non-members
whose funerals that Pastor Krebill may have conducted. So, if you have names you would like included in the
list that day, please call the church office at 843-6663 by NOON Friday, November 1 to have them included.
This year, we will be projecting names on the screen as part of this remembrance, so that is why it is important
to call the church office with the correct spelling AND pronunciation of the name you would like to be
included, and also to keep the deadline. Remember, these are the names of those who have died in the last
year.
Also, again this year, we are inviting worshipers at both services on November 3, to bring a flower to
place in front of the altar at the processional at the beginning of the service. Bring one flower for each loved
one you wish to commemorate. This can be anyone, and does not have to be those who have died in the past
year
ONE WORSHIP SERVICE ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 17. ANNUAL MEETING TO FOLLOW.
This year our Annual Meeting will be held on Sunday, November 17. On that day there will be ONE
WORSHIP SERVICE at 10 AM and the meeting will immediately follow. The agenda for the annual meeting
includes ministry and staff reports, the election of council and other ministry members, and the presentation of
the 2014 budget for congregational approval. The deadline for Annual Report articles to Vicki Zacharias is
Friday, November 1st. Copies of the Annual Report, including the proposed budget will be available in the
Gathering Place or in the church office on November 10, one week before the meeting, so that you may have a
chance to look over the reports and figures before the meeting.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL MISSION PROJECT 2013
We collected $212.90 for our VBS Mission Project, “Point Kids to Jesus Project.” As partners in ministry with
Gospel Light Worldwide, we helped reach thousands of children around the world and helped to point them ot
Jesus as part of the One Million children campaign.
L.I.F.E. TOGETHER FUNDRAISER
The Life Together children and their families will be having their annual fundraiser. We will be using the same
company that we used in previous years, Celebrating Home. They have a variety of candles and other items. We
will be receiving approximately 50% profit on all sales. The money will be put into the Holiday Craft
Workshop account to be used for next year’s workshop. Last year's workshop cost about $644. We had a profit
of $334 from the items sold and we had cash donations of $1263, less expenses for a total profit of $953. We
need to make about $500 from this year’s sale so that we can continue to offer this craft workshop at no cost to
the families next year. The money we made last year is being used for this year’s workshop which will be held
on Saturday, November 9, 2013. The order forms were sent home on Sunday, October 6 and are due back
on Sunday, November 17. There will be a table in the Gathering Place where you can place orders after each
service or you can order from any of the Life Together children. There will be extra order forms available if
anyone would like to take one to work and get additional orders. The orders will be available to pick up at
church on Sunday, December 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. These items make great gifts for teachers,
family members, friends, gift exchanges, raffles baskets and much more. If you have any questions please
contact Jackie Bailey at 440-842-5034 or [email protected].

HOLIDAY CRAFT WORKSHOP 2013
We will be having our 7th annual Holiday Craft Workshop on Saturday, November 9 from 10:00 a.m. to
1:00 p.m. This will be held at Bethel in the fellowship hall. This is for children ages three through 6th grade. It
is not just for the Life Together children but, also for friends, grandchildren etc. There will be between 10-12
crafts for the kids to make and holiday cookies for them to frost and eat. We ask that you sign up as soon as
possible so that we can be sure to have enough crafts for everyone who plans on coming. We also need to have
an adult or older sibling stay and help supervise the younger children, who will need additional help. We are
looking for about 30 people to help work the craft tables and the cookie table. The fliers with all of the
information and the sign up sheets were sent home on Sunday, September 29. Please cut off the sign up
sheet and return it to your child's teacher or to Jackie Bailey as soon as possible. You can also register by filling
out a registration form in the Gathering Place. There will be a brown envelope in the kiosk with the forms in it
or you can call Jackie Bailey and register over the phone. The registration deadline is Sunday, November 3.
You must preregister for this workshop no walk-ins will be accepted. If you are interested in helping or
have any other questions please contact Jackie Bailey at 440-842-5034 or [email protected].

GIFTS UNDER THE “JESSE” TREE
A Bethel Advent/Christmas Tradition now in its 16th
Year
The Jesse Tree will be set up in the back of the church and decorated with tags. The tags will identify the names
of children in K, 1st and 2
nd grades at Watterson Lake Elementary.
- Each tag will have a child’s name, gender, age, size and favorite color.
- Everyone is encouraged to take a tag, purchase one clothing outfit (shirt, blouse or sweater and
pants/skirt) and one toy or book, wrap the gift and place it under the tree (with identifying tag
attached).
- Final day for placing gifts under the tree will be Sunday, December 15th
.
If interested in helping on any of the following dates, please contact Sue Van Straaten at 440-888-1868.
- Friday, November 22 - set up and decorate the tree
- Sunday, December 15 - sort gifts after the late service
- Tuesday, December 17 - help deliver the gifts to the school
- take pictures of children opening gifts
If you go to the school on Tuesday, you will be caught up in the excitement. These gifts are the only Christmas
gifts some of these children will receive.
Please consider participating in this effort to reach out to school children in need as we share our gifts from God
with others.
