The Premiers an- nouncement of early school closure for the holidays has pro- vided some direcon amidst pre- vious conjecture around whether or not schools would connue to remain open. Nonetheless, it is not known at this point in me when schools will resume. Students who are in aendance today have been asked to take home their belongings; work- books, texts, laptops, chargers and pencil cases in readiness for remote learning next term. Please note that student lockers are accessible between 10am and 2pm Tuesday 24 th March and Wednesday 25 th March for stu- dents who are absent today to collect their equipment from their lockers. Class teachers are preparing for the delivery of learning online from Wednesday 15 th April. Teachers will structure online learning in a way which will mimic the classroom learning program; providing students with clear and concise learning goals, start-up acvies and tasks that will serve to introduce new learning and deepen student understanding of their learning. Students will be provided with reflecve tasks so they can reflect on their learning. The greatest challenge will be around the assessment of student learning. This will be informed by the length of school closure. Where possible, assessment will be held over unl students return to classroom teaching and learn- ing. In the situaon school closure connues for an extended period the assessment we will need to consider when and how this as- sessment occurs. At present we do not know how long learning will connue to be delivered online. VCE classes, like other classes across the College, will also be delivered online. We await advice from VCAA regarding School As- sessed Coursework and how we will complete that assessment at Years 11 and 12. Advice regarding this will be communicated as soon as possible. All students are asked to check their BSC email

account on Wednesday 15th April for details of

class learning Further details of the structure

of that learning will be provided in the coming

days and on our return after the term break

While Remote Learning cannot replace teach-

ing and learning in the classroom it does pro-

vide the opportunity for teaching and learning

to continue in the current challenging climate

All schools will be considering their own partic-

ular circumstances as they support continued

learning despite school closure Each school

will respond in its own particular way

If school closure continues and we move to

Remote learning on Wednesday 15th April as

we suspect students will be required to login

and engage with classroom teachers at the

time of their scheduled class Teachers will be

marking attendance at that time and will be

available albeit online to support students

Further detail regarding this will be available in

the days leading up to Wednesday 15th April

and will be communicated to students parents

and carers via Compass with further detail pro-

vided to students through their BSC email ac-

count

While Remote Learning meets many aspects of

student academic needs we are also looking to

ensure the social and emotional needs of our

students continue to be met as best we can at

this time Communication regarding wellbeing

support will be communicated to parents and

students over the coming days via Compass

Students who do not have access to a laptop

or do not have internet at home are asked to

please contact the College on 52519000 be-

tween 10am and 200pm Tuesday 24th March ndash

Friday 27th March to make arrangements to

ensure your child is able to access learning at

the beginning of Term 2

I hope that school closure is a short term ar-

rangement It provides a short term solution to

the challenge of continued teaching and learn-

ing and will need to become more sophisticat-

ed the longer the closure continues as we sup-

port student learning and achievement

Student Reports

Given the significant student absences the

interruption to the College learning program

and student assessment Term Reports will

now be postponed until Tuesday 22nd April

I thank the many parents who have reached

out to the College over the past two weeks

Your support has been very much appreciated

Please take care at this very difficult

and challenging time

Building the Drysdale Bypass at Gillies Road Wersquore building the 6km Drysdale Bypass

between Jetty Road and Whitcombes Road to im-prove safety and ease congestion on the Bellarine Peninsula

The bypass is really starting to take shape and we are making changes to the local road network in readiness for when the bypass is completed and opened later this year

The next phase of works involves building the By-pass entry and exit points at Gillies Road This means wersquoll need to temporarily close Gillies Road at the intersection of Andersons Road at the north side of the Bypass

Key dates and information

Gillies Road will close on the northern side of the Bypass where it intersects with Andersons Road from Monday 30 March 2020 until the Bypass opens later this year

When Gillies Road re-opens traffic will be able to turn left into Gillies Road from the bypass and left out of Gillies onto the Bypass

Gillies Road residents will continue to have access to Gillies Road via Basin Road during the closure

Parents and carers who use Gillies Road as a pickup or drop off area for the schools sports oval or Gate 3 are encouraged to use the new pedestrian under-

pass on Andersons Road or other drop off locations as shown in map overleaf

Please note the pedestrian underpass is still under construction so we ask that you take care when moving through it and please observe all safety signage and directions provided by our construction partnerrsquos team

Keeping you informed

During these essential works we will ensure that everyone in immediately affected areas is provided with clear and timely information about work that is happening near homes and businesses

Traffic will be kept updated of any changes via VMS boards Big Build notifications or visit our website httpsroadprojectsvicgovauprojectsdrysdale-bypass

sieberiana var sieberiana Grey Tussock Grass

One of 44 accepted Poa species in Australia - Grey

Tussock Grass occurs in only a few spots of rem-

nant vegetation on the Bellarine We were lucky

enough to collect some seed amp propagate a small num-

ber of plants These plants were planted in the Nursery

gardens in early 2019 This summer we captured a not

insignificant amount of seed I am happy to report that

we will have an abundance of this species for sale this

year
