18For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory

that is going to be revealed to us. 19For the creation eagerly waits with anticipation for God’s sons to

be revealed. 20For the creation was subjected to futility – not willingly, but because of Him who

subjected it – in the hope 21that the creation itself will also be set free from the bondage of corruption

into the glorious freedom of God’s children. 22For we know that the whole creation has been groaning

We live in a hopeless world. What God created to be a perfect, Edenic, place has been turned

into a mess of destruction. Gone are the days when our innocent world could function in morality and

civility. Gone are the days when things were in their rightful order and God was on the Throne of this

world. Instead, we live in a day where violence is commonplace. Terrorism is becoming less

surprising. Morality is outdated. Truth is a thing of the past. The only things that are important are

those things important to the individual. It has turned the world upside down. Immorality is more

important than decency. Animals are on equal ground with children. And the cardinal sin of today’s

world is to believe that anything could be so true that it is not only true for me, but also true for you

as well.

Our world was not made to be this way. When sin entered the world everything suffered.

Mankind suffered, animals suffered, even the earth itself was thrust into an existence below what it

was intended. Sin, a concept all but forgotten in our immoral world, changed everything. Before sin,

there was no illness, no tornados, no death, no disasters, no tragedies and no evil. But for now our

corrupt world is shackled in the bondage of sin.

There is hope! There is an answer! There is potential for revival & potential to live in a world

that lives up to its potential. That is why we are here. That is why there is a place called Berea

Baptist Church. That is why we hire staff, send kids to camp, go on Mission Trips, hold VBS and all

the rest. We are a hope center that this world desperately needs. The world around us will continue to

crumble, until it passes away… but that doesn’t mean our lives need to. We who are in Christ have

hope! Go out and be a beacon of hope in your world today!

Berea Student Ministry

From the people that brought you #teamtrox: Ann Lanthorn will forever go down in my book as one

of my favorite people in any church, anywhere. Let me tell you the story that sets her apart for me.

It was 2009 and we were gearing up for a mission trip to New York City. This was the rare trip

where I had twice as many girls as I had guys, and the only female chaperone I had was my wife

Jessica. Per the rules of the group we would be working with, we needed 1 adult per 5 students and we were way

over that. Week after week I asked and pleaded for a lady to step up and commit to go with us until finally I was

faced with the decision of cutting some of our girls from the trip. For the final time, I stepped up to the pulpit and

asked for someone to step up. After the service Mrs. Ann walked up to me and asked if she could go with us, not

only that, she wanted to pay for herself (and her grandson), the catch in her eyes was that she was in her mid-70s

and didn’t think she could do it.

To make a long story short, we took her, and all of our young ladies. We dragged her all over NYC. From

shopping in Times Square, to stick ball in Central Park, to a Ferry ride to see the Statue of Liberty, to Basketball/

Cheering Camp in Staten Island and painting in a local elementary school. We, and I do mean WE, had a blast

with her as we sang “You Lost That Loving Feeling” to her over and over again, did ministry side by side with her,

and joked with her for a whole week. She was a blessing, based on one simple concept, she was willing. Willing to

go do what God called her to do.

A simple concept deserves some simple questions. First, are you being a blessing to others? All too often we have

either just had enough because we are tired, or think we have done enough. The reality is that God has allowed

us the privilege to serve Him and He’s not done with us yet. Second, are you willing? I know there are times

when I look around at my teenagers at a concert and realize that, “hey, loud music is not my friend anymore.” Not

to mention children have a boundless energy that makes it near impossible to keep up with them, so I understand

that it is tiring. However, they need you, and in fact you need them. They need you to be there for them, to teach

them, and to love them. Maybe it’s not a Bible Story, maybe it’s just how to build a car out of Legos, either way

they need you. The fact is, you need them as well, because we were created to glorify the Lord and this is

opportunity knocking at your door.

So I encourage you, join the long list of people before you who have been willing. Willing to serve the Lord in

whatever capacity He calls you to and willing to give of yourself for His glory. By the way, the call to serve doesn’t

stop with Children’s and Youth Ministry, it extends to the choir, shut-ins, the homeless, and so many more

opportunities to bring honor and glory to the Lord.

Here are some ways you can join our Children’s Ministry Today: VBS Snack Helpers, VBS Rotation

Helpers, VBS Class Leaders and Helpers, VBS Game Time Leader, Wednesday Night Children’s Helpers

and Teachers, Van Drivers, and more. Contact Pastor Charlie to get connected.

We also need items for the Kid’s Market Store, which is now a year round opportunity for our Children to

earn cool stuff for doing great things like learning scripture verses, holding the door for someone, sharing, serving,

and many other ways. We are looking for T-Shirts for girls and boys preferably with simple graphics or scripture,

toys, books, and pretty much anything you think a child might like. Ollie’s, Roses, and Big Lot’s are great places

to find a bargain, or you can always check the clearance section at any store. We also love small displays so if

your clearing out the last of a product and can get the small display, that would be great.

Finally we are always seeking donations for our children’s snack time. Cheese sticks, Gold Fish crackers,

cookies, iced animal crackers, individual cups of apple sauce, snack cakes, individual cups of fruit and GoGurts are

always great choices. Juice Pouches, such as Shrek’s Fruit Punch, Kool Aid, Capri Suns, in flavors of Cherry,

Grape, Lemonade, Fruit Punch and Tropical Fruit Punch. Please purchase enough for 25 children, and turn in to

the church office or Pastor Charlie. Thank you!

Dear Berea Family,

I'd like to thank each one of you for all of your prayers and support you've shown me through my fundraisers

and donations to be able to represent our country for a second year as a Student Ambassador abroad. I wouldn't

have been able to achieve this goal without your prayers and help. Now I ask you to pray for not just me, but my

fellow ambassadors, the delegation leaders, and the many people helping to plan and keep us safe while we

travel. Thank you all once again for the love and support! I look forward to representing Berea Baptist Church,

Elizabeth City, and the United States of America in France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and Italy starting

June 19! God Bless, Cameron Quigley

We too often love things and use people, when we should be using things and loving people.
