I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6 The past several weeks have had their ups and downs. We had a wonderful VBS and were privileged to serve up to 75 kids per night. We continue to pray for those families with whom we had that little piece of contact. On the other hand, I have spent more time at Albemarle hospital in recent weeks than I have in our two and a half years together. Some of those trips have had joyous endings, others have not. As I reflect over these weeks, I think about how special our time is on this little planet. Our opportunities are limited. Our time is brief. Our purpose… well that’s just it isn’t it? Why are we really here? What is the meaning behind the years we spend down here? Paul had special insight into that little question. He saw God do miraculous things as he travelled the world for the cause of Christ. He led the charge of the faithful, only to find himself in prison in places like Philippi. When Paul got to the place of reflection, like I have, he wrote back to the Philippians that through struggles and hard times, God has a plan, He will carry out the good work in us to completion! If we’re still here, He’s not finished with us yet. Christian Artist Brandon Heath puts it this way: Still wondering why I'm here; still wrestling with my fear But oh, He's up to something… and the farther on I go I've seen enough to know that I'm not here for nothing, He's up to something. There is hope for me yet, because God won't forget All the plans He's made for me, I'll have to wait and see He's not finished with me yet He’s made plans for you, He’s up to something in your life. Tune in to Him and position yourself to be ready to hear what those plans will be as you wait and see. Love you All, Jason September 2016 BereaOne Life

I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day

of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6

The past several weeks have had their ups and downs. We had a wonderful VBS and were privileged

to serve up to 75 kids per night. We continue to pray for those families with whom we had that little

piece of contact. On the other hand, I have spent more time at Albemarle hospital in recent weeks

than I have in our two and a half years together. Some of those trips have had joyous endings, others

have not.

As I reflect over these weeks, I think about how special our time is on this little planet.

Our opportunities are limited. Our time is brief. Our purpose… well that’s just it isn’t it? Why are we

really here? What is the meaning behind the years we spend down here?

Paul had special insight into that little question. He saw God do miraculous things as he travelled the

world for the cause of Christ. He led the charge of the faithful, only to find himself in prison in places

like Philippi. When Paul got to the place of reflection, like I have, he wrote back to the Philippians

that through struggles and hard times, God has a plan, He will carry out the good work in

us to completion! If we’re still here, He’s not finished with us yet. Christian Artist Brandon Heath

puts it this way:

Still wondering why I'm here; still wrestling with my fear

I've seen enough to know that I'm not here for nothing, He's up to something.

Berea Student Ministry

Just my thoughts: While away at college one January, I was driving my 1993 Plymouth Sundance

when one of the engine belts broke. I called my dad as I always did with issues like this

and he instructed me to park it immediately or risk more damage. I figured out which belt was

broke, got my tool box and in the parking lot where I worked, in the middle of winter, I fixed the

belt myself. You see over time as a child, growing into a teenager and even to this day as an adult,

I spent a great deal of time around my dad in the garage. He taught me how to change the oil, replace filters, and

do many general tasks to keep our vehicles finely tuned and on the road.

My dad, and certainly my mother as well, have taught me many things through the years. Everything from fixing

the car to how to make sweet tea and beef tips on rice have been handed down from them. More importantly they

have constantly been a guide in my walk with the Lord. As I sit back and think on that, I am left wondering what

lessons we are handing down to the future generations. As a church it is clear we are directed by scripture to

“train up” our young people, and as people with real life experience there is so much you have to offer

to these children and youth, the future of our church, and community.

I would encourage you to be like my Dad and Mom. Take every opportunity to pour into the hearts and minds of

those around you. Give them instruction in how to live day to day, and how to walk daily with the Lord. Don’t

take for granted that someone else will do it, or that it is not your job, but be the one who steps forward and helps

to train the next generation to love the Lord, and more than that just teach them. Teach them to sew, teach them

to appreciate art or dance, how to set the table and make a meal, how to change a tire, how to plant a flower, or one

of a thousand things that have long been forgotten. Teach them today, before it’s too late tomorrow.

Yard Sale: It’s that time of year again! Beginning September 15th the gym will be available to bring in your yard

sale items for our Youth Yard Sale on September 24th. All money raised will be used for the youth of Berea Baptist

Church.

Are you homeschooled? Then join us September 15th, and monthly from then on for “Lunch time”. Each month we

will be getting together for lunch and devotions as well as some opportunities to serve. We will meet at Berea at

11:30 and head out for lunch from there. Check with Pastor Charlie for more details.

Looking for an opportunity to teach them: First, please be aware that often the best teaching is done through one

on one interaction, so you don’t have to be the “teacher” to teach. We are looking for committed adults to teach in

Awana beginning this fall. We are also looking for those that would like to listen to kids recite memory verses and

pass sections as well as those who just want to invest some love and attention in the children that God has blessed

us with. Also, if you love tummy time, rattles and silly songs with Larry, then the nursery is the place for you!

Contact Pastor Charlie to be the blessing in a child’s life today.

Children’s Ministry Needs: We also need items for the Kid’s Market Store, which is now a year round opportunity

for our Children to earn cool stuff for doing great things like learning scripture verses, holding the door

for someone, sharing, serving, and many other ways. We are looking for T-Shirts for girls & boys preferably with

simple graphics or scripture, toys, books, and pretty much anything you think a child might like. Ollie’s, Roses,

and Big Lot’s are great places to find a bargain, or you can always check the clearance section at any store.

Finally we are always seeking donations for our children’s snack time. Cheese sticks, gold fish crackers, cookies,

iced animal crackers, individual cups of apple sauce, snack cakes, individual cups of fruit, and GoGurts are always

great choices. Juice Pouches, such as Shrek’s Fruit Punch, Kool Aid, Capri Suns, in flavors of Cherry,

Grape, Lemonade, Fruit Punch, and Tropical Fruit Punch. Please purchase enough for 25 children, and turn in to

the church office or Pastor Charlie. Thank you!

Dear Berea, July 25, 2016

I want to thank you all for the special recognition this past Sunday. I have enjoyed

working with you all and wish you all the best. Thank you for the gift as well. It was

totally unexpected. Thanks again.

In His Service, Ronda

Dear Berea Baptist Church,

Thank you so much for giving us space to eat and sleep on our bike trip! We appreciate your generosity! Our stu-

dents are going to be growing a lot in their faith on this trip, and having churches like you come alongside us

makes it all possible!

Thanks again, Fourth Summer Staff & Youth

Fourth Presbyterian Church—Bethesda, MD

I would like to take a moment to thank the Boothe family for providing the scholarship so I can further my edu-

cation. I would also like to thank the deacons for selecting me as this year's recipient of the Harold and Adelle

Boothe Scholarship. I will use it towards my studies in Criminal Justice and Counter-Terrorism.

God Bless, Cameron Quigley

To Our Berea Church Family,

First of all we would like to thank you for the wonderful meat & cheese platter and for the fruit platter. Most of

all thank you for the prayers, the visits and for enough food to feed an army. Starting in the days when David

was an infant & toddler and his doting grandparents would bring him to the nursery when he came to town to

visit, to the days when David as a teen would play basketball & go on youth trips, Berea family took him in and

made over David & he was loved by all. Many of you had a profound interest in his life and prayed with him

many times over. You showed our son what real love was as you cared for him as if he was your own. We cannot

thank you enough for these things as they will be some of the happiest memories we have of our son. We shall

miss him deeply & forever until we meet him again with our Father in heaven.
