TIME Imagine there is a bank which credits your account each morning with $86,400. It carries over no balance from day to day, allows you to keep no cash balance, and every evening cancels whatever part of the amount you had failed to use during the day. What would you do? Draw out every cent, of course! Well, everyone has such a bank. Its name is TIME. Every morning, it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it writes off, as lost, whatever of this you have failed to invest to good purpose. It carries over no balance. It allows no overdraft. Each day it opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the remains of the day. If you fail to use the day's deposits, the loss is yours. There is no going back. There is no drawing against the "tomorrow". You must live in the present on today's deposits. Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness and success! The clock is running. Make the most of today. To realize the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who has failed a grade. To realize the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who has given birth to a pre-mature baby. To realize the value of ONE WEEK, ask an editor of a weekly newspaper. To realize the value of ONE DAY, ask a daily wage laborer who has kids to feed. 16 Habits of Creative People

Here are 16 habits of creative people. If you cultivate some of them, you will feel an increase in your level of creativity. In the process, you will also feel tickled by life!

1. Creative people are full of curiosity.

Page 2: Best Things about knowledge

Creative people are wonderstruck. They are tickled by the newness of every moment. They have lots of questions. They keep asking what, why, when, where and how.

A questioning mind is an open mind. It is not a knowing mind. Only an open mind can be creative. A knowing mind can never be creative.

A questioning stance sensitizes the mind in a very special way and it is able to sense what would have been missed otherwise.

2. Creative people are problem-friendly.

When there is a problem, some people can be seen wringing up their hands. Their first reaction is to look for someone to blame. Being faced with a problem becomes a problem. Such people can be called problem-averse.

Creative people, on the other hand, are problem-friendly. They just roll up their sleeves when faced with a problem. They see problems as opportunities to improve the quality of life. Being faced with a problem is never a problem.

You get dirty and take a bath every day. You get tired and relax every day. Similarly, you have problems that need to be solved every day. Life is a fascinating rhythm of problems and solutions.

To be problem-averse is to be life-averse. To be problem-friendly is to be life-friendly. Problems come into your life to convey some message. If you run away from them, you miss the message.

3. Creative people value their ideas.

Creative people realize the value of an idea. They do not take any chance with something so important. They carry a small notepad to note down ideas whenever they occur.

Many times, just because they have a notepad and are looking for ideas to jot down, they can spot ideas which they would have otherwise missed.

4. Creative people embrace challenges.

Creative people thrive on challenges. They have a gleam in their eyes as soon as they sniff one. Challenges bring the best out of them – reason enough to welcome them.

Page 3: Best Things about knowledge

5. Creative people are full of enthusiasm.

Creative people are enthusiastic about their goals. This enthusiasm works as fuel for their journey, propelling them to their goals.

6. Creative people are persistent.

Creative people know it well that people may initially respond to their new ideas like the immune system responds to a virus. They’ll try to reject the idea in a number of ways.

Creative people are not surprised or frustrated because of this. Nor do they take it personally. They understand it takes time for a new idea to be accepted. In fact, the more creative the idea, the longer it takes for it to be appreciated.

7. Creative people are perennially dissatisfied.

Creative people are acutely aware of their dissatisfactions and unfulfilled desires. However, this awareness does not frustrate them. As a matter of fact, they use this awareness as a stimulus to realize their dreams.

8. Creative people are optimists.

Creative people generally have a deeply held belief that most, if not all, problems can be solved. No challenge is too big to be overcome.

This doesn’t mean they are always happy and never depressed. They do have their bad moments but they don’t generally get stumped by a challenge.

9. Creative people make positive Judgment.

A new idea is delicate. It can be killed by a sneer or a yawn. It can be stabbed to death by a quip and worried to death by a right man’s brow – a businessman Charles Brower

The ability to hold off on judging or critiquing an idea is important in the process of creativity. Often great ideas start as crazy ones - if critique is applied too early the idea will be killed and never developed into something useful and useable.

Page 4: Best Things about knowledge

This doesn’t mean there is no room for critique or judgment in the creative process but there is a time and place for it and creative people recognize that.

10. Creative people go for the big kill.

Creative people realize that the first idea is just the starting point. It is in the process of fleshing it out that some magical cross-connections happen and the original ‘normal’ idea turns into a killer idea.

11. Creative people are prepared to stick it out.

Creative people who actually see their ideas come to fruition have the ability to stick with their ideas and see them through - even when the going gets tough. This is what sets them apart from others. Stick-ability is the key.

12. Creative people do not fall in love with an idea.

Creative people recognize how dangerous it is to fall in love with an idea. Falling in love with an idea means stopping more ideas from coming to their mind. They love the process of coming up with ideas, not necessarily the idea.

13. Creative people recognize the environment in which they are most creative.

Creative people do most of their thinking in an environment which is most conducive to their creativity. If they are unable to influence their physical environment, they recreate their ‘favourite’ creative environment in their minds.

14. Creative people are good at reframing any situation.

Reframes are a different way of looking at things. Being able to reframe experiences and situations is a very powerful skill.

Reframing allows you to look at a situation from a different angle. It is like another camera angle in a football match. And a different view has the power to change your entire perception of the situation.

Page 5: Best Things about knowledge

Reframing can breathe new life into dead situations. It can motivate demoralized teams. It helps you to spot opportunities that you would have otherwise missed.

15. Creative people are friends with the unexpected.

Creative people have the knack of expecting the unexpected and finding connections between unrelated things. It is this special quality of mind that evokes serendipitous events in their lives.

Having honed the art of making happy discoveries, they are able to evoke serendipity more often than others.

16. Creative people are not afraid of failures.

Creative people realize that the energy that creates great ideas also creates errors. They know that failure is not really the opposite of success.

In fact, both failure and success are on the same side of the spectrum because both are the result of an attempt made. Creative people look at failure as a stopover on way to success, just a step away from it.

What Stress Actually Does to You and What You Can Do About It

Stress is an unpleasant fact of life. We all experience it for various reasons, and we all try to come up with ways of coping with it—some with more success than others. So what exactly is stress doing to your mind (and body) when you're staring down a deadline? And what can you do to power through it? The real problem with stress is that, for such a well understood and universally experienced condition, as a society we deal with it so poorly that it leads to many of our most lethal illnesses and long-term health problems. High blood pressure, heart disease, cancer, stroke, obesity, and insomnia are all medical conditions across the spectrum that can be related to or directly influenced by high stress as an environmental condition. In order to cut through some of that fog, let's take a brief look at what stress is, how it impacts us on a physical and mental level, and finally what we can do about it, with the help of some experts. Photo by bottled_void.

Defining Stress: Acute and ChronicEveryone experiences stress in some way, shape, or form. We all recognize when we're in stressful situations, and we all know when we're stressed. At the same time, stress is more than just a feeling that we have a lot to deal with. For the purposes of our explainer, we're focusing on so-called "bad stress," as opposed to "good stress," like the kind of you experience on a roller coaster (if you went on willingly), when you get a big promotion, or kiss someone for the first time. Aside from good stress, there are primarily two types of stress: Acute (short-term) stress that's usually a response to a specific influence (called a stressor), and chronic (long-term) stress that sticks with you and could either have sprung from a short-term stress that stuck with you, or a constant state of stress that you're under due to persistent stressors and conditions. Photo by Becky Wetherington.

Acute Stress: Acute stress is the type of stress you experience when you have an immediate reaction to something you're presented with. This is the "in the moment" kind of fight or flight response that you have when you have to speak in a meeting, your boss just asked you to stay late, you're startled by a sudden noise, or someone on the internet makes a ill-informed comment about your favorite smartphone platform/operating system/hardware manufacturer. (How could they!?)Acute stress is defined by the fact that it's immediate and short term. In most cases, once the stressor has been removed, your body and mind return to a normal state.

Page 9: Best Things about knowledge

Chronic Stress: Chronic stress is entirely different, and is characterized by its long-term nature. This is the type of stress that you feel that you're under every day, with no reprieve from the things that make you feel stressed. Most chronic stressors are situations, for example, in which you dislike your job and detest going every day, being there all day, and thinking about it when you leave. Living paycheck-to-paycheck and struggling with financial security issues is another common source of chronic stress that many people are familiar with. Its these types of chronic stress situations that are the most dangerous. They keep your body's defenses activated and heightened longer than is generally healthy, and unfortunately more and more of us are living under constant conditions that create stress. Add to this the fact that "coping with stress" isn't exactly a topic you learn in school and you have a recipe for a lot of very unhappy people.

What's Actually Happening When You're StressedYour body shows signs of stress in two ways: first, the rush of hormones that elevate your heart rate, boost your blood pressure, and stop your digestion, and then second the symptoms that you experience and are aware of, like clenched teeth, headaches, and emotional upset. Most of us can tell when we're stressed momentarily, or are just feeling stressed out generally, but there's a lot going on inside our bodies when we're stressed that play a role in our health.Symptoms: The most common and recognizable symptoms of stress are the ones most of us know all too well: insomnia, headaches, jaw pain, back and neck pain, stuttering, heartburn and nausea, nervousness and anxiety, fidgeting, nail-biting, lateness and trouble focusing, and a lack of interest in work or activities that are normally interesting. The American Institute of Stress (AIS) has a list of 50 common signs and symptoms of stress that include these, but also note a number of other symptoms that you may not have immediately associated with stress and not another condition like depression. For example, behavioral changes that lead to other conditions can also be signs of stress, like addictive tendencies, a sudden interest in smoking, alcohol, excessive eating, or gambling, or any other addictive behavior that can be interpreted as an escape from chronic stressors. Often, even subconsciously, many of us try to escape stressful situations or conditions by blocking them out or escaping by way of anything that makes us feel better. Even if it's fleeting, it's common to search out an escape so you can relax for a while. Photo by The American Institute of Stress.

I spoke with Roger S. Gil, MAMFT, about some of the less productive ways people cope with stress, and he highlighted that trying to escape without dealing with the actual stressor is more common than you may think. "Overeating, displaced anger, denial, defensiveness, etc. All are signs of avoidance and coping strategies that are meant to protect the ego from the discomfort caused by the stressor…and none of them do anything about the stressor," he explained. "Withdrawing (i.e. checking out mentally) from the situation at hand is something I see A LOT of in my work with couples. For example a husband may withdraw into his own little world when his wife complains about something. Instead of hearing her concerns, he pulls away and encourages her to nag him some more…which causes more withdrawal."

These behavioral changes cut both ways though: the AIS notes that stress reactions can also lead to isolation, loneliness, and severe depression as well. If you've been suddenly feeling alone, forgetful, overly defensive, disorganized, uninterested in your everyday life, overwhelmed by what's going on around you to the point where you need to lie about them, and having difficulty

Page 10: Best Things about knowledge

communicating with others, it's possible that chronic, poorly managed stress may be part of the problem.

Physiological Effects of Stress: While stress is most often discussed in terms of how it changes our mental and emotional condition, stressors and stressful situations also have a profound impact on our bodies. Stressors, whether they're acute or chronic, immediately set off the body's fight-or-flight response, flooding your system with stress hormones like norepinephrine and cortisol that are meant to give you a needed boost in dangerous situations. Image via Wikipedia. In short and small bursts, those hormones can make you more alert, more perceptive, raise your heart rate so your muscles get more blood to them, and raise your breathing rate so you get more oxygen into your lungs. Your digestive processes stop entirely so your body doesn't waste energy processing food when it needs all the energy it can muster to survive. It's a good thing if, say, you're dashing across a busy street or escaping a burning building, but keeping your body's fight or flight response turned on all the time and those stress hormones at high levels in your body is unhealthy, as this eHealth article explains. If these hormones stay in your system for too long, they can eventually lead to high blood pressure and increased heart rate, stress-induced hypertension and stroke risk, ulcers and other gastrointestinal distress, a suppressed immune system, fatigue, sexual issues like impotence and decreased libido. After all, those stress hormones are meant to be in our systems for a short period while we deal with an acute stressor, at a time where we need all of our faculties about us. Over the long term, keeping the body on full alert is more of a detriment than a benefit.

What You Can Do About StressOnce you recognize the effects of stress and understand the damage you're doing to your body by not coming up with ways to cope with the stress that you're under, it's time to do something about it. I spoke with clinical psychologist Jeffrey DeGroat, PhD about some of the ways you can reduce the impact that chronic stress has on you and how to cope with acute stressors.

Dealing with Acute Stressors: If the stressor is acute and temporary, Dr. DeGroat suggests applying simple relaxation techniques like deep breathing, to calm the mind and the body so you can get the clarity you need to address the situation. He proposes taking a 10-second breathing cycle: breathe in for four seconds, and then out for six seconds. "Works as a thought distraction," he says, "as well as physically slowing down heart rate. This is a good technique to use anytime and anywhere." Photo by Shawn Rossi.

Previously mentioned app CalmDown for Mac is a utility designed just for situations like this: it encourages you to take a deep breath (or a few) so you can step back from the stressor for a moment, gather your thoughts, and push through the fog of frustration and anger that often come with stressors.

I also spoke with Roger Gil about dealing with stressful situations and he reinforced the point: "Stressors like these can produce physical responses at first; so if you're heart is racing, you're short of breath, or you feel your muscles tightening somewhere in your body, know that you're feeling a physiological stress response. In those cases, channeling your awareness of your body

Page 11: Best Things about knowledge

can sometimes distract a person away from the area of the body having the stress response." Recognizing that you're having a physical reaction will help you calm down and deal with the situation the way you really want to, as opposed to letting it stew in your mind only to come up with what you wanted to say 15 minutes after you should have said it.

In that vein, Dr. DeGroat explains that figuring out what you wanted to say a few minutes after you said it is very common, and often a result of being unprepared for the stressful situation you're presented with. Aside from making sure to be ready for those situations in advance if you can be, he suggests acknowledging that you're stressed in the situation and telling the person or people you're dealing with that you'll get back to them later. Photo by Sasha Wolff."Rather than responding immediately with something we may regret later, or not saying anything at all," he says, "another option might be to indicate to the person that you'll talk to them later about the situation. For example, [imagine] you find out that a co-worker is dating an ex-boyfriend/girlfriend of yours. Rather than yelling at them and making yourself look out of control, or saying 'oh, that's cool,' when you're really upset about it, you could say, 'let's not get into this right now.' This will give you some time to collect your thoughts and approach them on your terms and on your time." Time, as Dr. DeGroat explains, is key to defusing acute stressors, letting your body and mind return to normal, and giving yourself the space to deal with them in a healthy way.

Dealing with Chronic Stressors: Stressors that you deal with on a daily basis or that are always hanging over your head are a different matter entirely. Usually they give you a little more time and space to deal with the thing that's making you stressed, and there are other relaxation techniques for stressors that may not require action on your part right away, or stressors that are always lurking in the background, like your boss, for example.Visualization is one way to relax yourself when you're presented with a stressor that you don't need to respond to immediately. Dr. DeGroat suggests that if you can, take five to ten minutes to immerse yourself in the most relaxing environment you can possibly imagine, whether it's green fields, a chair by the sea, or your favorite easy chair at home. Focus on as much of that environment as possible, trying to manifest the sounds, smells, and details about it in your head. The more you do this, the farther away you'll get from the thing that's bothering you. It won't make that thing go away, but it will give you a little clarity of mind and distance from the stressor. Photo by Gabriel Pollard.

If you have additional time to relax and some space to be alone, Dr. DeGroat suggests progressive muscle relaxation to defuse some of the natural tension that comes with being stressed. "Systematically tense and relax muscle groups, beginning at your toes and working your way all to the top of your head. [This] serves as a distraction from current stressors and can help reduce physical tension that often accompanies stress."

Another tip Dr. DeGroat offers is to identify whether level of stress and your response to it is realistic or unrealistic when you're in the middle of it. If it's realistic, as in anyone would respond the same way and there's something you can do about it (like your computer froze or you just dropped something,) then address the situation and move on. If the response is unrealistic and others may not respond the same way (traffic isn't moving fast enough or security lines at the airport are too slow,) then address yourself: calm down, step back, and try to relax.

Page 12: Best Things about knowledge

The first step to addressing yourself is to challenge the way you're thinking about the stressor. "Challenging these automatic thoughts that often hijack our minds and promote stress has been shown in research to be a great way to help break the patterns of thinking & behaving that are counterproductive/harmful," Roger Gil explained. "Once the 'mental battle' is won, the IRL battle is more easily handled."

Granted, none of these measures have to be practiced only in the context of chronic stress, but it is more likely that if your boss is getting on your nerves again today or the rent is due and you're worried about being able to afford groceries, you're more likely to take a few minutes and address how you feel so you can approach the issues in a clear manner than you are if you're stuck in a meeting and asked to speak on a topic you weren't ready for.

How to Deal with Stress In the FutureWhen I asked Dr. DeGroat how we could deal with certain kinds of stress that seem to crop up from time to time, like an overbearing extended family or an aggressive and disrespectful employer, he pointed out that while there are ways to deal with each situation on its own merits, much of the stress that gets to us the most comes from relationships. "Really, I believe stress in relationships (occupational, family, social), often includes difficulties with setting and maintaining boundaries. Others seem to expect too much from us. Rather than setting our own limits/boundaries, we allow others to cross these boundaries, and end up feeling irritated and resentful. One of the best ways to prevent stress in relationships is to identify our own limits/boundaries and hold to them," he says. Photo by Joel Mendoza.

In some cases, it may simply be better to remove yourself from chronic stressors if you're having difficulty adapting to them or minimizing them. After all, if your job is wearing you down and there's no improving it, it may be time to look for a new job. If your relationship is so stressful it's destructive for everyone in it, it may be time to break it off, and if your apartment is run down and your landlord won't fix it, it's time to move out. There are plenty of good reasons to learn to cope with stress, but there are other equally good reasons to remove the stress from your life when you can.

To that end, there's no real way to live a completely stress-free life. Remember, there are positive stressors as well as negative ones, and the positive ones are usually good experiences that we enjoy or seek out. The same applies for negative stressors: they're bound to happen eventually and avoiding them is a futile effort. The key is in knowing how to deal with them, and how to minimize their effect on you.If the stress you're experiencing is chronic, consider other activities like taking up a hobby, meditating, or traveling—anything that can take your mind off of those stressors and provide a healthy outlet where you can relax. "Other helpful stressful coping mechanisms are exercise, doing an activity you're good at that won't worsen the stress (e.g. cooking, video games, etc), and watching a very engrossing movie/TV show," Gil said, "Sometimes interrupting the state of stress a person is in with an activity they enjoy is enough to keep them from losing control."

There's no magic formula for dealing with stress, but employing coping mechanisms that give you distance, helps you get through the moment, and at best minimizes the overall impact the

Page 13: Best Things about knowledge

stressor has on you are a good way to stay healthy, happy, and productive. Photo by Jacob Bøtter."It is how we approach it that can cause us problems, or allow us to grow. The more control we can find within a situation, or over ourselves, the more likely we will grow from the situation," Dr. DeGroat explained, "The more we are able to identify and act upon the control and choice we have in situations, the less debilitating the stress will be."

This is just a short introduction, but unsurprisingly, entire books have been written on the topic of stress, its medical and psychological implications, and how you can deal with it in healthy ways. While we hope we've given you some insight into how your body reacts to stressors and how you can manage them in the moment and on the long term, we know that this is by no means an exhaustive study into the topic. What are some of your most successful ways of dealing with stressful situations, both short and long-term? Share your suggestions in the comments

Sitting for Too Long Is Bad for Your Health

In this world of technology; computer, play stations, mobiles and television one can sit for hours on the same sofa or chair in the same position. During working hours, much is spent on chair either working on computer or writing something. Accounting, programming, managing files, reading, making projects and discussing work with colleagues may take hours and you do that while sitting in the same position. No doubt, in between you do take a tea break or go to the next counter to drink water but calculating and understanding the proper precautionary measures are necessary. It is very easy for a person working on computer or writing something to stay in that one pose for eight to nine working hours on a daily basis and not even realizing its adverse effects.

It is quite strange that time flies when you submerge into the real world. Your work and studies are the far most necessary things to you, neglecting the bad effects of it on your health. 21st century is quite inactive in a sense that machines are available for every purpose. There are many bad effects on health by sitting constantly in same position almost every day. The problems that once can face are:

Obesity- Logically it is quite obvious, sitting for a long time at one place and taking snacks can add to your body fat as you do not waste energy on locomotion. The inactivity burns fewer calories, the problem is when you move less you do not consume less calories; consumption is same as a regular day when you move. No one would like to get obese as it is a serious trouble that may lead to many other problems.

Page 14: Best Things about knowledge

There are certain cells in the body that changes itself to fat cells when put under pressure. Here, by pressure means the constant mechanical stress that is applied on the body by sitting in one position for hours. These cells are preadipocyte cells that are designed to be converted to the fat cells. Researchers have shown that under constant mechanical stress they convert much faster to the fat cells.

Diabetes and Heart Disease- It is quite clear above that some normal cells can convert to fat cells. The results may not only be obesity. Those fat cells can deposit in the blood vessels causing heart disease. Healthy heart is the in the active body. One must understand the fact that oversleeping that is also one of the inactive states of the body can cause a heart problem so similarly sitting and working for hours on the chair in one position can also make your heart weak. No doubt, even if you are working on a laptop in office; your mind is actually working and body is in tension, moreover after hours it will be really uncomfortable and tired.

One of the other problems caused is diabetes. Research has shown that type 2 Diabetes developed in the people who sit for many hours daily in one position. Diabetes is another dangerous factor that adds to many other illnesses.

Cancer- The strange thing is you can’t even imagine that sitting can cause cancer. Everything these days are somehow related to cancer or play a role in activation of oncogenes such as rays of mobile phones and microwaves etc. But it is true that sitting for long in one position in routine can cause cancer. Unbelievable! Right? The American Institute for Cancer Research showed in a recent conference that many cases of breast cancer and colon cancer are somehow related to inactivation.

All these problems are serious and proved to have a relation with inactivity. Cancer, diabetes, heart problems and obesity are all related to many other illnesses. This shows that inactivity overall shortens the life span of an individual who is careless and do not consider health as the first priority. Saying “ health is wealth” presents a very strong concept, your brain that works on computer while writing and working won’t be useful if you will no longer be able to sit and write something due to unhealthy body.

It is advised to take break after every 50- 60 minutes. Break not at all means to take rest. It means to go for a small walk; 5-10 minute walk will do well. The solution is not to leave

Page 15: Best Things about knowledge

computers, televisions or other devices. It is just not to over exhaust yourself and your body by stretching time in front of them.

The National Health and Nutrition Survey have published many research journals in which it is shown that even slight care that includes a walk even hardly for minute can reduce waistline, could improve insulin resistance and increases the levels of good cholesterol. One must keep in mind that health is important, take a break during work; take a walk, stretch yourself a bit and take a drink.

A wonderful story

A woman came out of her house and saw 3 old men with long white beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them. She said "I

don't think I know you, but you must be hungry. Please come in and have something to eat."

"Is the man of the house home?", they asked.

"No", she replied. "He's out."

"Then we cannot come in", they replied.

In the evening when her husband came home, she told him what had happened.

"Go tell them I am home and invite them in!"

The woman went out and invited the men in"

" We do not go into a House together," they replied.

"Why is that?" she asked.

One of the old men explained: "His name is Wealth," he said pointing to one of his friends, and said pointing to another one, "He is Success, and I am Love." Then he added, "Now go in and discuss with your husband

which one of us you want in your home."

The woman went in and told her husband what was said. Her husband was overjoyed. "How n ice!!", he said. "Since that is the case, let us

Page 16: Best Things about knowledge

invite Wealth. Let him come and fill our home with wealth!"

His wife disagreed. "My dear, why don't we invite Success?"

Their daughter was listening from the other corner of the house. She jumped in with her own suggestion: "Would it not be better to invite

Love? Our home will then be filled with love!"

"Let us heed our daughter's advice," said the husband to his wife.

"Go out and invite Love to be our guest ." The woman went out and asked the 3 old men, "Which one of you is

Love? Please come in and be our guest."

Love got up and started walking toward the house. The other 2 also got up and followed him. Surprised, t he lady asked Wealth and Success: "I

only invited Love, Why are you coming in?"

The old men replied together: "If you had invited Wealth or Success, the other two of us would've stayed out, but since you invited Love,

wherever He goes, we go with him. Wherever there is Love, there is also Wealth and Success !!!!!!"

Story: A Cry for Help

Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived: Happiness, Sadness, and all of the others, including Love.

One day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all repaired their boats and left.

Love was the only one who stayed. Love wanted to persevere until the last possible moment.

When the island was almost sinking, Love decided to ask for help.

Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat. Love said, "Richness, can you take me with you?" Richness answered, "No I can't..There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place for you here."

Page 17: Best Things about knowledge

Love decided to ask Vanity, who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel, "Vanity, please help me!" "I can't help you Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat," Vanity answered.

Sadness was close by so Love asked for help, "Sadness let me go with you." "Oh...Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!"

Happiness passed by Love too, but she was so happy that she did not even hear when Love called her!

Suddenly, there was a voice, "Come Love, I will take you." It was an elder. Love felt so blessed and overjoyed that he even forgot to ask the elder her name.

When they arrived at dry land, the elder went her own way. Love, realizing how much he owed the elder, asked Knowledge, another elder, "Who helped me?"

"It was Time," Knowledge answered.

"Time?" asked Love. "But why did Time help me?

Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered, "Because only Time is capable of understanding how great Love is.

Story: The Dog in the Well

In old times, there was a village having only one well for drinking water. One day a dog fell down in the well and died. The water became filthy and undrinkable.  The worried villagers went to the old wise man for advice. They were told to take 100 buckets of water from the well so that clean water come to the surface of the well. The villagers took 100 buckets but water status was same. They went to the wise man again. He suggested to take another 100 buckets. The villagers did the same but to no avail. They villagers tried third time to take another 100 buckets as per the advice from the wise man but water was still impure. The wise said, How come the whole well is polluted even removing this much considerable amount of water. Did you remove the dog body prior to taking 300 buckets of water? The villagers said, "no sir, you only advised us to take water out, not the dog body !!!"

Reflection:

Several times in life we try to resolve our problems without considering the root cause of the problems. We believe that we are resolving the problem whereas in actual we are working on the side effects of problem not the problem itself. We don't see the big picture to understand

Page 18: Best Things about knowledge

the root of the issue.  We take advice from our well wishers but do not use our brain to think logically to analyze the advice and then decide, instead, we start acting blindly on the solutions suggested by others.

The Bird that Talked

There is an old story about a fellow who lived alone and went to a pet store to buy a parrot. He thought the bird might fill some of his lonely hours. The very next day, however, he came back to complain, "That bird doesn't talk."

The store owner asked if he had a mirror in its cage, and the man said he didn't. "Oh, parrots love mirrors," he explained. "When he sees his reflection in the mirror, he'll just start talking away." So he sold him a birdcage mirror.

The bird owner was back the next day to gripe that his parrot still hadn't said a word. "That's very peculiar," allowed the pet expert. "How about a swing? Birds really love these little swings, and a happy parrot is a talkative parrot." So the man bought a swing, took it home, and installed it in the cage.

But he was back the next day with the same story. "Does he have a ladder to climb?" the salesman asked. "That just has to be the problem. Once he has a ladder, he'll probably talk your ear off!" So the fellow bought a ladder.

The man was back at the pet store when it opened the next day. From the look on his face, the owner knew something was wrong. "Didn't your parrot like the ladder?" he asked. His repeat customer looked up and

Page 19: Best Things about knowledge

said, "The parrot died."

"I'm so sorry," the stunned businessman said. "Did he ever say anything?"

"Well, yes. He finally talked just before he died. In a weak little voice, he asked me, "Don't they sell any bird seed at that pet store?'"

Some of us have mistakenly thought that happiness consists of lining our cages with toys, gadgets, and other stuff. Excessive consumption has become the hallmark of our life. "Whoever has the most toys wins" seems to be the likely candidate to be the bumper sticker for an entire culture. But is it so?

There is a spiritual hunger in the human heart that can't be satisfied by seeing one's own image reflected back in vanity mirrors, playing with our grown-up toys, or climbing the corporate ladder. Our hearts need real nourishment. The love of family and friends, relationships over the pursuit of more things, personal integrity, a secure connection to God --these are the things that feed the soul.

10 Qualities of a Good Manager

RECENTLY I wrote about 10 qualities of a good employee, which prompted quite a few people to ask about the attributes of a good manager. There isn't a magic formula for good management, of course, but if you're a manager, perhaps these tips will help you be more effective: 1 Choose a field thoughtfully. Make it one you enjoy. It's hard to be productive without enthusiasm. This is true whether you're a manager or employee; 2 Hire carefully. You need a strong team, because a mediocre team gives mediocre results, no matter how well managed it is. One mistake is holding on to somebody who doesn't measure up. It's easy to keep this person on the job because he's not terrible at what he does. But a good manager will replace him or move him to where he can succeed unambiguously; 3 Create a productive environment. This is a particular challenge because it requires different approaches depending on the context. Sometimes you maximise productivity by giving everybody his or her own office. Sometimes you achieve it by moving everybody into open space. Sometimes you use financial incentives to stimulate productivity. A combination of approaches is usually required. One element that almost always increases productivity is providing an information system that empowers employees. When I was building Microsoft, I set out to create an environment where software developers could thrive. I wanted a company where engineers liked to work. I wanted to create a culture that encouraged them to work together, share ideas and remain motivated. If I hadn't been a software engineer myself, there's no way I could have achieved my goal; 4 Define success. Make it clear to your employees what constitutes success and how they should measure their achievements. Goals must be realistic. Project schedules, for example, must be set by the people who do the work. People will accept a "bottoms-up" deadline they helped set, but they'll be cynical about a schedule imposed from the top that doesn't map to reality. Unachievable goals undermine an organisation. At my company, in addition to regular team meetings and one-on-one sessions between managers and employees, we use mass gatherings periodically and E-mail routinely to communicate what we expect from employees. If a reviewer or customer chooses another company's product , we analyse the situation. We say to our people, "The next time around we've got to win. What's needed?" The answers to these questions help us define success; 5 To be a good manager, you have to like people and be good at communicating. This is hard to fake. If you don't enjoy interacting with people, it'll be hard to manage them well. You must have a wide range of personal contacts within your organisation. You need relationships - not necessarily personal

Page 21: Best Things about knowledge

friendships - with a fair number of people, including your own employees. You must encourage these people to tell you what's going on and give you feedback about what people are thinking about the company and your role in it; 6 Develop your people to do their jobs better than you can. Transfer your skills to them. This is an exciting goal, but it can be threatening to a manager who worries that he's training his replacement. If you're concerned, ask your boss: "If I develop somebody who can do my job super well, does the company have some other challenge for me or not?" Many smart managers like to see their employees increase their responsibilities because it frees the managers to tackle new or undone tasks. There's no shortage of jobs for good managers. The world has an infinite amount of work to be done; 7 Build morale. Make it clear there's plenty of goodwill to go around and that it's not just you or some hotshot manager who's going to look good if things go well. Give people a sense of the importance of what they're working on - its importance to the company, its importance to customers; 8 Take on projects yourself. You need to do more than communicate. The last thing people want is a boss who just doles out stuff. From time to time, prove you can be hands-on by taking on one of the less attractive tasks and using it as an example of how your employees should meet challenges; 9 Don't make the same decision twice. Spend the time and thought to make a solid decision the first time so that you don't revisit the issue unnecessarily. If you're too willing to reopen issues, it interferes not only with your execution but also with your motivation to make a decision in the first place. People hate indecisive leadership; However, that doesn't mean you have to decide everything the moment it comes to your attention. Nor that you can't ever reconsider a decision. 10 Let people know whom to please. Maybe it's you, maybe it's your boss, and maybe it's somebody who works for you. You're in trouble and risking paralysis in your organization when employees start saying to themselves: "Am I supposed to be making this person happy or this other person happy? They seem to have different priorities." I don't pretend that these are the only 10 approaches a manager should keep in mind. There are lots of others. Just a month ago I encouraged leaders to demand bad news before good news from their employees. But these 10 ideas may help you manage well, and I hope they do.

Story: It's All Good

I heard the story told recently about a king in Africa who had a close friend that he grew up with. The friend had a habit of looking at every situation that ever occurred in his life (positive or negative) and remarking, "This is good!"

One day the king and his friend were out on a hunting expedition. The friend would load and prepare the guns for the king. The friend had apparently done something wrong in preparing one of the guns, for after taking the gun from his friend, the king fired it and his thumb was blown off. Examining the situation the friend remarked as usual, "This is good!". To which the king replied, "No, this is NOT good!" and proceeded to send his friend to jail.

Page 22: Best Things about knowledge

About a year later, the king was hunting in an area that he should have known to stay clear of. Cannibals captured him and took them to their village. They tied his hands, stacked some wood, set up a stake and bound him to the stake.

As they came near to set fire to the wood, they noticed that the king was missing a thumb. Being superstitious, they never ate anyone that was less than whole. So untying the king they sent him on his way.

As he returned home, he was reminded of the event that had taken his thumb and felt remorse for his treatment of his friend. He went immediately to the jail to speak with his friend. "You were right" he said, "it was good that my thumb was blown off." And he proceeded to tell the friend all that had just happened. "And so I am very sorry for sending you to jail for so long. It was bad for me to do this."

"No," his friend replied, "this is good!"

"What do you mean, 'this is good'! How could it be good that I sent my friend to jail for a year."

"If I had NOT been in jail, I would have been with you."

The 7 Super Powers You Must Posses

Each one of us want high happiness index, peace of mind, mature character and success in life but most of us do not really strive to achieve these goals. Out of us who struggle for their goals a very few are able to make things happen. The difference between successful and unsuccessful people is the difference between the level of Inner Power both the categories posses in their brains and the level of Power they exert to achieve what they want to achieve. In my opinion, the Inner Powers consist of following seven categories and the intellectuals who possess all these mental muscles can accomplish a great deal of victories in most of the fields of life:

1-  The Power of Focus:There is a story which tells that during the bird shooting session, the instructor asked each shooter what he is looking at. One candidate said, I am looking at the flock of birds, another said, I am looking at the tree where birds are about to sit however one shooter said that I am looking in the eyes of one of the flying birds ! This is the power of focus I want to draw your attention towards. Focus means to insert all of your energies on one goal and do not let any obstacles change your

Page 23: Best Things about knowledge

attention. Remember, you see problems when you move your eyes away from your target. Don't let your mind distracted from your goal. Don't let impure thoughts spoil your plans. Remember, what you focus on increases so don't let the seeds of negativity get nourished in your brain. Use Zoom-In and Zoom-Out tool to strengthen your Power of Focus.

2-  The Power of Vision:A fast pace horse running in the wrong direction will never reach its destination. Instead it will cause misleading ripple effect to its followers too. Building the Power of Vision starts with your thinking style, awareness about your field, your comprehension capabilities and your caliber to imagine the future. A)                  Your thoughts are the seeds for your character because thoughts give birth to actions which become your habits and constitutes towards your personality and consequently your destiny. Empowering your thought process involves staying away from negative thoughts, trying being part of the solutions instead of problems with less criticism and more optimism.B)                  Awareness: Empowering your awareness level involves a lot of reading, meeting with high potency people, watching relevant documentaries and observing people in the industry. Make habit of reading great magazines and watching news daily to improve your vision. Once you develop the Power of Vision, your comprehension levels will be as deep as a sea; your thoughts will fly as high as sky and your strategies will be as solid as rocks.

3-  The Power of Now:People make plans people forget plans people fail. Why? They don't execute. They keep thinking and they keep waiting for the 'right' moment to kick off their plans. This 'right' moment never comes if they keep waiting for it. The right moment is now. The best way to make your dreams come true is to wake up and act. This is understood that planning is important. However if you keep wasting your time in the name of planning, you will end up as a failed chap. Break down the big target into smaller tasks and start implementing one by one starting today. Don't waste your time as your idea might get implemented by someone else. You might have more tough circumstances with more complications tomorrow. You might have to bear the burden of additional responsibilities so Now is the time to take action.

Page 24: Best Things about knowledge

Now is the time to make difference. Now is the time to make things happen. Remember, your thoughts will not take you anywhere if you don't implement them. So take action Now !!!

4-  The Power of Positivity:Successful people posses a positive mindset. To develop this power you must shield yourself from Negativity. Remember that being positive will give you the freedom to look forward instead of looking in past. If you keep wandering in past with negative thoughts you will not be able to proceed with your goals. Positive people are part of solutions not part of problems. Positive people convert risks into opportunity. They have the sense of gratitude. They believe in skills not in luck. If you want to build this power, try staying away from negative souls, make the habit of reading good books, join some nice pages on Facebook or Google Plus, read wisdom quotes and surround yourself in positive people.

5-  The Power of Analytics:Being analytical helps in many ways, for example, breaking down bigger problem in to smaller tasks, considering the issue from more wider and multiple angles, evaluating the options from Needs and Wants perspective, differentiating between urgent and important tasks and eventually working on things which matter the most. Whether you want to analyze large data at work, or you want to purchase a new mobile set, Resolving a technical issue or handling a conflict in family or work, analytical skills help you a lot. Read a thorough article Here

6-  The Power of Flexibility:Mostly people think the other way around; in fact being flexible doesn't mean being weak instead it portrays your powerful personality trait that you care about others and respect the difference of opinion. It is said: "Better to bend than to break" so the more flexible you are, the more you will be able to manage stress which will strengthen your thought process. Keep your ego aside and listen to the perspective of others. Keep your mental doors open and be flexible in changing your plans. Be adaptable to situations because sometimes U-turn in life are fine to take. Don't get dishearten. Remember, God takes men to deep waters not to drown them but to cleanse them".

Page 25: Best Things about knowledge

7-  The Power of 'Implosiveness':Great people are not explosive at all. They are cool at mind and heart. They are not sensitive and reactive in nature. When a tragic situation triggers their anger, they analyze it from logical, sentimental and ethical angles and then respond in order to improve the situation and not vice versa.  So you must believe in the fact reactive nature will reduce your friends and increase your foes.

Empower your personality with these 7 super powers and gain ultimate heights in life.Remember, success is not a destination, it's a journey. For this journey, there are no escalators so you must take the ladder passage. Which means you have to take step by step approach to reach to the top. If you are in doubt at any stage, just take next small step and notice the consequences. If all fine, go ahead; if something goes wrong, take a step back and re-assess your direction.

Telephonic Interview Tips

Telephone interviews are one of the initial methods to screen candidates. They are meant to be a relatively quick and easy way to narrow down the massive pool of applicants, before compiling a short list for on premise interviews.

The desired response of a telephone interview is to secure a face-to-face interview. The response of a telephone interview is slightly different from that of a face-to-face interview. The telephone interview is designed to lead to a face-to-face interview.

Here is how to prepare for a telephone interview. Although, it is customary for interviewers to give you an advance notice of a telephone interviews, some will not. They will just ring up and go for it. Once you start sending out applications, be prepared for telephone interviews. That call can come at 8 am Monday morning, 7 pm Friday evening or 9 pm Sunday night.

Practice your voice projection. Speak aloud to practice. Ask someone else to listen to you or even record and play yourself back. It's amazing how different you sound. You will notice the bad habits...the "errrrrrs" and "ummmmmms."

Obviously, telephone practice as well as general interview and question practice are essential. Further, you should be able to demonstrate a good knowledge regarding the job, company, its' products and services and even its' competitors...that means undertaking research.

Try to anticipate the questions you'll be asked that demonstrate you can do the job. Then, prepare accordingly. Technical questioning on the telephone is common - as a means to screen

Page 26: Best Things about knowledge

candidates. The questions may not in great depth, but should be known by a good candidate.

During the interview, the interviewer has only ears with which to judge you, and that is something you must exploit.

Some Telephone Interview Tips

Have your research and company notes to hand. You should also have a copy of the resume that you sent to that company. Remember, the most effective resume are those that are especially tailoredTake a "surprise" call in your stride. If you are looking for work then no telephone interviews should really be a "surprise."Be calm and collected. Remember to slow your breathing...at least try by counting to 5 with each inhale and exhaleSmile: it really makes a difference in your voice so much so that the person on the other end can tell when you are smilingSound positive, friendly, and collected

If you need time say..."Thank you for calling. Would you wait just a moment while I close the door?" Rest the phone as you pull out your resume and company informationBe professional, as if it was a face-to-face interview. Don't be over-familiar with the interviewer. It does happen! You should always refer to the interviewer by his or her surname until invited to do otherwiseListen carefully to the interviewer. Listening and communication skills are essential

Be factual in your answers

Do not smoke or eat while on the phone

Shut out all background noise, such as pets, children playing and the television

Take notes: They will be invaluable to you in preparing for the face-to-face meeting. No need to record the conversation...that is a bit over the top!Prompt the interviewer to invite you to interview by saying, "I am immediately available for interview if you would like to arrange one now."Taking care to ascertain the correct spelling and pronunciation of the interviewer's name shows your concern for the small but important things in life--it will be noticedIf you require more details like a Job Description or Person Specification ask for one

Thank the interviewer for her time and that you hope to hear soon. No harm in saying that you are very keen for a face-to-face interview. One school of thought asserts that you should ask three times for an interview; subtly of course. "I am immediately available for interview.""I really would like an opportunity to meet you and look around the company.""I will be in the area on Monday and it is no problem to pop in."It is difficult to evaluate an opportunity properly over the telephone. Even if the job doesn't sound right, go to the interview. At the very minimum it will give you practice

Page 27: Best Things about knowledge

Moreover, once you attend a face-to-face interview the job may look that bit more attractive as you gather more facts. You might even discover a more suitable opening elsewhere within the company; it does happen

Telephonic interview implies responding to recruiters queries through phone. It is an effective method to measure a person’s communication and listening skills. The process can be automated or non-automated. An automated telephonic interview involves answering a series of standard questions and in a non-automated telephonic interview, there is a direct contact with the recruiter.

A telephonic interview can happen in three circumstances:

When you initiate a call to the recruiter and they show interest. The call from thereon is an interview.

A company calls you based upon a previous contact. You have a designated time to talk to a company's representative.

How can you make telephonic interview successful?

Prepare well

Never jump to take an unexpcted and unplanned call. Excuse yourself and ask them to reschedule the call.

Keep your resume handy. Rehearse answers related to your accomplishments as it is a commonly asked question

and a good way to impress the recruiters. Keep your research material ready to act as reference point.  Stay ready to take notes. Ward off anything and everything in the room that can distract. Keep yourself calm in body and mind. Make sure you need no break during the water, not even for getting a glass of water ot

attending to nature's call. Turn off call waiting on your phone, warm up your voice while waiting for the call, have

a glass of    water handy, turn off your stereo, TV and any other possible interruption. Finally, be ready with the answers to the basic questions and to rehearse them in front of

the mirror to gain confidence.

Page 28: Best Things about knowledge

Perform well

Listening skill is a crucial component during the interview process. Comprehend the questions well and give to the point answers.

Avoid talking in between and let the recruiter complete his thought or question before you speak.

It is important to speak at a slow pace and be clear so that the interviewer can understand what you are saying.

Do not use unprofessional language and sound courteous and polite. Thank the interviewer once the interview process is complete.

Most importantly keep your tone pleasant as most interviewers are experienced and can easily judge the comfort level of the candidate, so it is important to smile and stay relaxed. Give your best during the telephonic interview as it will pave the way for further interactions.

Some helpful hints:

* Introduce yourself clearly and directly. Engage in some “small talk” at the start of the interview, just as you would a face-to-face interview.

* Speak clearly into the receiver and modulate your voice. Your voice is the only way you have of showing eagerness, enthusiasm and zest for the job. Your voice reveals both your personality and your attitude toward the caller. Don’t forget to smile! It makes a big difference in a conversation, even on the telephone.

* Have your resume and the job advertisement with you for reference, and a pencil and some paper to make notes.

* Some students find that it helps to dress for a telephone interview as you would for a face-to-face interview – it often helps to psychologically prepare you for this form of business “meeting”.

* No matter how or where your interview is conducted, you should still have the same goal: to communicate to the interviewer that you are the best candidate for the position for which you are being interviewed. If the interview has been scheduled in advance, you should prepare as carefully as you would for a formal “sit down” in someone’s office.

* Eliminate any distractions from your immediate environment (desk toys, newspaper clippings,

Page 29: Best Things about knowledge

your shopping list). Dress professionally and maintain good posture. The one bonus to a telephone interview is that you can prearrange notes to prompt you and to keep you on track, but only if you can refer to them unobtrusively. You do not want the person on the other end of the line to hear you shuffling papers in the background!

Before taking up a Telephonic interview

Keep your resume in front of you. Keep all of your employer research materials within easy reach of the phone. Have a notepad handy to take notes. Turn off your stereo, TV, and any other potential distraction. Warm up your voice while waiting for the call. Sing an uplifting song to yourself. Have a glass of water handy, since you will not have a chance to take a break during the

call. Speaking of breaks, if your phone interview is at a set time, make sure you answer

nature's call first.

Do’s

Do take telephonic interview as seriously as a personal interview. If the call is unexpected, ask for a reschedule. It is always OK. You need to have enthusiasm and sound confident while answering the questions. Always put across the details on your experience, skills and your strong points. Answers need to be precise to the questions asked, at the same time do not miss out to list

out your strengths.

Don’ts

Avoid / Minimize distractions. Always take a telephonic interview in a quiet place. Avoid using mobile as there can be some signal problem and it may be problematic. If using a mobile do not switch on the voice message.

After Telephonic interview

fter a phone interview, send a thank-you note by email that recaps your best selling points.

You can also follow up to know the result of the interview.

Page 30: Best Things about knowledge

1. Be articulate. Practice asking yourself questions, then answer them with confidence in front of the mirror. This will give you an idea of your facial expressions and pronunciation.

2. Keep your answers brief and to the point.3. You must know where to stop and start while answering questions. Never talk non-stop.

Control the speed of your speech.4. Listen carefully to the interviewer's questions. Understand the question and start your

answer by recollecting your experiences and knowledge.5. If you are not able to understand the question clearly, ask the Interviewer to repeat it.

Do Not Panic Unnecessarily

People panic about practically everything—missed deadlines, orders not received, comments by others, fear of mistakes, negative trends. You name it and someone has panicked about it. Yet I've never seen even a single instance where the panic actually helped to solve the problem. Instead, panic is neutral at best and greatly interferes at worst. Panic tends to bring out the worst in everyone. It makes others (and you) feel tense and fearful. It increases the likelihood of mistakes, missed opportunities and miscommunications. Nothing interferes with the creation of success and abundance like panic. When you make the commitment to stop panicking, you'll notice some incredible things happening. First, you'll notice that a vast majority of what you are most worried about will never happen, or it won't be as bad as you first thought. It was Benjamin Franklin who said, "Some terrible things happened in my lifetime – a few of which

Page 33: Best Things about knowledge

actually happened." By avoiding the panic, you won't waste time, anxiety, and energy trying to solve what probably doesn't need solving. Second, when you learn to keep your bearings, your wisdom will come forth. In the absence of worry, answers will emerge. Instead of a head full of concerns, you'll create a head full of solutions. Finally, when you stay calm, you really do bring out the best in others. Many people react to the feelings of others. If you can maintain your bearings, chances are the people you work with will too. To bring forth your greatest potential, eliminate panic altogether from your thinking..

The Illusion of Reflection

Once there was a king who had presented his daughter, the princess,  with a beautiful diamond necklace. The necklace was stolen and his  people in the kingdom searched everywhere but could not find it. Some  said a bird may have stolen it. The king then asked them all to search for it and put a reward for $50,000 for anyone who found it.   One day a clerk was walking home along a river next to an industrial area. This river was completely polluted and filthy and smelly. As he was walking , the clerk saw a shimmering in the river and when he looked, he saw the diamond necklace. He decided to try and catch it  so that he could get the $50,000 reward. He put his hand in the filthy, dirty river and grabbed at the necklace, but some how missed it and didn't catch it. He took his hand out and looked again and the necklace was still there. He tried again, this time he walked in the river and dirtied his pants in the filthy river and put his whole arm in to catch the necklace. But strangely, he still missed the necklace! He came out and started walking away, feeling depressed.

Then again he saw the necklace, right there. This time he was determined to get it, no matter what. He decided to plunge into the river, although it was a disgusting thing to do as the river was polluted, and his whole body would become fillthy. He plunged in, and searched everywhere for the necklace and yet he failed. This time he was really bewildered and came out feeling very depressed that he could not get the necklace that would get him $50,000.   Just then a saint who was walking by, saw him, and asked him what was the matter. The clerk didn't want to share the secret with the saint, thinking the saint might take the necklace for himself,so he refused to tell the saint anything. But the saint could see this man was troubled and being compassionate, again asked the clerk to tell him the problem and promised that he would not tell anyone about it. The clerk mustered some courage and decided to put some faith in the saint. He told the saint about the necklace

Page 34: Best Things about knowledge

and how he tried and tried to catch it,but kept failing. The saint then told him that perhaps he should try looking upward, toward the branches of the tree, instead of in the filthy river. The clerk looked up and true enough, the necklace was dangling on the branch of a tree. He had been trying to capture a mere reflection of the real necklace all this time.

 Moral of the story:

Material happiness is just like the filthy, polluted river; because it is a mere reflection of the TRUE happiness in the spiritual world.  We can never achieve the happiness we are looking for no matter how hard we endeavour in material life. Instead we should look upwards, toward God, who is the source of real happiness, and stop chasing after the reflection of this happiness in the material world. This spritual happiness is the only thing that can satisfy us completely.

THE SELFISH MAN

Once upon a time, there was a selfish man. He liked everything to be his own. He could not share his belongings with anyone, not even his friends or the poor. One day, the man lost thirty gold coins. He went to his friend's house and told him how he lost his gold coins. His friend was a kind man.

As his friend's daughter was coming from an errand she found thirty gold coins, when she arrived home, she told her father what she had found. The girl's father told her that the gold coins belong to his friend and he sent for him. When the selfish man arrived, he told him how his daughter had found his thirty gold coins and handed then to him. After counting the gold coins the man said that ten of them was missing and had been taken by the girl as he had forty gold coins. He further commented that he will recover the remaining amount from him (the girl's father). But the father refused.

The man left the gold coins and went to the court and informed the judge there about what had taken place between him and the girl's father.

Page 35: Best Things about knowledge

The judge sent for the girl and her father, and when they arrived asked the girl how many gold coins did she find. She replied thirty gold coins. The Judge then asked the selfish man how many gold coins did he lose and he answered forty gold coins.

The judge then told the man that the gold coins did not belong to him because the girl found thirty and not forty as he claimed to have lost and then told the girl to take the gold coins and that if anybody is looking for them he will send for the girl.

The judge told the man that if anybody reports that they have found forty gold coins he will send for him. It was then the man confessed that he lied and that he lost thirty gold coins but the judge did not listen to him.

This story teaches us to be always honest as dishonest never pays.

Human Brain Analysis – Man vs Woman

Man vs. Woman – a battle between two genders which never seems like coming to an end. Why is it so? Why one entity cannot walk hand in hand or shoulder to shoulder with their counterparts in everyday matters of life. Why the stir is still going on about woman inequality and gender discrimination in our modern and highly educated era? The questions are many but answers are few yet unsatisfactory; why is it so?

We preach a lot about men and women being equal while in reality one gender is in urge of dominating other in order to prove their respective strength and ultimate value. This unending and unsettling dispute has raised many eyebrows of scholars over the years. One aspect of looking at and addressing the issue at hand is to observe it from the perspective of sheer innate reality and psychology. This is what we are going to do right now; we are opting out for human brain analysis in order to understand why it is always ‘man vs. woman’?

Page 36: Best Things about knowledge

It is not the mere outlook and appearance of both genders which is distinguished from each other; in fact, the most complex thing of the world ‘Brain’ is also different in both when it comes to cognitive ability, thinking, reasoning, problem solving and many other alike functions. Now we shed some lights at the facts by assaying human brain in both man and woman according to the different aspects of life.

A woman is good when it comes to multitasking. She can do different tasks at the same time without losing the power of her focus and this proves the strength of her abilities. She can drive whilst listening to a phone call unlike man, who loses focus quite easily and finds it difficult to pull off multitasking. Hence, they are more in favor of approach ‘one task at one time’

Similarly when it comes to language then it is said that woman are more able to learn more languages compared to man and this is the reason why, vocabulary of a woman tends to be greater than that of a man. Further, this is why a female baby speaks more and tends to be more talkative than a baby boy

Woman finds it difficult to solve problems quickly while on the other hand, man tends to be quick and effective problem solvers

Man is far greater than woman when it comes to analytical process; he can view an abstract situation and then breaks it down into simpler bits of problems while a woman finds it difficult to do so. She would take an abstract situation as a complex map of lines only

Car driving is better in man than woman. Reason being, analytical abilities of man combines with his brain while driving. As a result, he is better in identification of far off objects on the road, their direction and speed; hence, they tend to be better fast driver. While on the other hand, a women cannot drive fast due to lagging behind in factors in which man is leading

Another interesting fact is woman can easily catch lies when a man speaks to them one on one because women are blessed with an enhancing clairvoyance; they judge opposite gender on the basis of 70% facial expressions, 20% body language and 10% words. This is the reason why man finds it difficult to lie in front of a woman while on the other hand, woman can easily lie in front of a man without even getting caught

Moreover, when a man faces a problem then he can classify this problem in to tiny pieces and then put them into different sections of his brain and then he finds solutions of these different sections of problems. While when it comes to a woman then she cannot classify her problems into smaller units; all she wants to do is pour her heart out to someone, once she is done with that then she becomes happy and no longer care for the solution afterwards

Another distinguishing factors between man and woman is their aspirations in life, man wants success, status, money and big proceeds in life while, contrastingly, woman wants family, friends and relations more in her life and gives more value to such things

Page 37: Best Things about knowledge

Similarly, if a man is unhappy with his relations then he cannot concentrate on his other relations while if a woman is unhappy with her relations then she cannot focus on her work

Woman often use indirect references in language while a man uses direct speech. This is another that kind of  fact which causes compatibility problems between two genders

When it comes to handling emotions then it is said that woman talks a lot without thinking while when it comes to man then he acts a lot without thinking

Above are mentioned few of the many interesting and opposing facts about both genders according to the brain analysis which are being raved about a lot now-a-days.

10 Deadly Signs of Negative Thinking

The way to overcome negative thoughts and destructive emotions is to develop opposing, positive emotions that are stronger and more powerful." -  Life could be so much better for many people, if they would just spot their negative thinking habits and replace them with positive ones.

Negative thinking, in all its many-splendored forms, has a way of creeping into conversations and our thinking without our noticing them. The key to success, in my humble opinion, is learning to spot these thoughts and squash them like little bugs. Then replace them with positive ones. You'll notice a huge difference in everything you do.

Let's take a look at 10 common ways that negative thinking emerges —get good at spotting these patterns, and practice replacing them withpositive thinking patterns. It has made all the difference in theworld for me.

10 Deadly Sins of Negative Thinking

1. I will be happy once I have _____ (or once I earn X). Problem: If you think you can't be happy until you reach a certainpoint, or until you reach a certain income, or have a certain type ofhouse or car or computer setup, you'll never be happy. That elusivegoal is always just out of reach. Once we reach those goals, we arenot satisfied — we want more. Solution: Learn to be happy with what you have, where you are, and whoyou are, right at this moment. Happiness doesn't have to be some statethat we want to get to eventually — it can be found right now. Learnto count your blessings, and see the positive in your situation. Thismight sound simplistic, but it works.

2. I wish I were as ____ as (a celebrity, friend, co-worker).

Page 38: Best Things about knowledge

Problem: We'll never be as pretty, as talented, as rich, as sculpted,as cool, as everyone else. There will always be someone better, if youlook hard enough. Therefore, if we compare ourselves to others likethis, we will always pale, and will always fail, and will always feelbad about ourselves. This is no way to be happy. Solution: Stop comparing yourself to others, and look instead atyourself — what are your strengths, your accomplishments, yoursuccesses, however small? What do you love about yourself? Learn tolove who you are, right now, not who you want to become. There is goodin each of us, love in each of us, and a wonderful human spirit inevery one of us.

3. Seeing others becoming successful makes me jealous and resentful. Problem: First, this assumes that only a small number of people can besuccessful. In truth, many, many people can be successful — indifferent ways. Solution: Learn to admire the success of others, and learn from it,and be happy for them, by empathizing with them and understanding whatit must be like to be them. And then turn away from them, and look atyourself — you can be successful too, in whatever you choose to do.And even more, you already are successful. Look not at those above youin the social ladder, but those below you — there are always millionsof people worse off than you, people who couldn't even read thisarticle or afford a computer. In that light, you are a huge success.

4. I am a miserable failure — I can't seem to do anything right. Problem: Everyone is a failure, if you look at it in certain ways.Everyone has failed, many times, at different things. I have certainlyfailed so many times I cannot count them — and I continue to fail, daily. However, looking at your failures as failures only makes youfeel bad about yourself. By thinking in this way, we will have anegative self-image and never move on from here. Solution: See your successes and ignore your failures. Look back onyour life, in the last month, or year, or 5 years. And try to rememberyour successes. If you have trouble with this, start documenting them— keep a success journal, either in a notebook or online. Documentyour success each day, or each week. When you look back at what you'veaccomplished, over a year, you will be amazed. It's an incrediblypositive feeling.

5. I'm going to beat so-and-so no matter what — I'm better than him.And there's no way I'll help him succeed — he might beat me. Problem: Competitiveness assumes that there is a small amount of goldto be had, and I need to get it before he does. It makes us intogreedy, back-stabbing, hurtful people. We try to claw our way overpeople to get to success, because of our competitive feelings. For

Page 39: Best Things about knowledge

example, if a blogger wants to have more subscribers than anotherblogger, he may never link to or mention that other blogger. However, who is to say that my subscribers can't also be yours? People can readand subscribe to more than one blog. Solution: Learn to see success as something that can be shared, andlearn that if we help each other out, we can each have a better chanceto be successful. Two people working towards a common goal are betterthan two people trying to beat each other up to get to that goal. There is more than enough success to go around. Learn to think interms of abundance rather than scarcity.

6. Dammit! Why do these bad things always happen to me? Problem: Bad things happen to everybody. If we dwell on them, theywill frustrate us and bring us down. Solution: See bad things as a part of the ebb and flow of life.Suffering is a part of the human condition — but it passes. All paingoes away, eventually. Meanwhile, don't let it hold you back. Don'tdwell on bad things, but look forward towards something good in yourfuture. And learn to take the bad things in stride, and learn fromthem. Bad things are actually opportunities to grow and learn and getstronger, in disguise.

7. You can't do anything right! Why can't you be like ____ ? Problem: This can be said to your child or your subordinate or yoursibling. The problem? Comparing two people, first of all, is always afallacy. People are different, with different ways of doing things, different strengths and weaknesses, different human characteristics. If we were all the same, we'd be robots. Second, saying negativethings like this to another person never helps the situation. It mightmake you feel better, and more powerful, but in truth, it hurts yourrelationship, it will actually make you feel negative, and it willcertainly make the other person feel negative and more likely tocontinue negative behavior. Everyone loses. Solution: Take the mistakes or bad behavior of others as anopportunity to teach. Show them how to do something. Second, praisethem for their positive behavior, and encourage their success. Last, and most important, love them for who they are, and celebrate theirdifferences.

8. Your work sucks. It's super lame. You are a moron and I hope younever reproduce. Problem: I've actually gotten this comment before. It feels wonderful. However, let's look at it not from the perspective of the personreceiving this kind of comment but from the perspective of the persongiving it. How does saying something negative like this help you? Iguess it might feel good to vent if you feel like your time has been

Page 40: Best Things about knowledge

wasted. But really, how much of your time has been wasted? A fewminutes? And whose fault is that? The bloggers or yours? In truth, making negative comments just keeps you in a negative mindset. It'salso not a good way to make friends. Solution: Learn to offer constructive solutions, first of all. Insteadof telling someone their blog sucks, or that a post is lame, offersome specific suggestions for improvement. Help them get better. Ifyou are going to take the time to make a comment, make it worth yourtime. Second, learn to interact with people in a more positive way —it makes others feel good and it makes you feel better about yourself. And you can make some great friends this way. That's a good thing.

9. Insulting People Back Problem: If someone insults you or angers you in some way, insultingthem back and continuing your anger only transfers their problem toyou. This person was probably having a bad day (or a bad year) andtook it out on you for some reason. If you reciprocate, you are nowhaving a bad day too. His problem has become yours. Not only that, butthe cycle of insults can get worse and worse until it results inviolence or other negative consequences — for both of you. Solution: Let the insults or negative comments of others slide off youlike Teflon. Don't let their problem become yours. In fact, try tounderstand their problem more — why would someone say something likethat? What problems are they going through? Having a little empathyfor someone not only makes you understand that their comment is notabout you, but it can make you feel and act in a positive mannertowards them — and make you feel better about yourself in the process.

10. I don't think I can do this — I don't have enough discipline.Maybe some other time. Problem: If you don't think you can do something, you probably won't.Especially for the big stuff. Discipline has nothing to do with it —motivation and focus has everything to do with it. And if you putstuff off for "some other time", you'll never get it done. Negativethinking like this inhibits us from accomplishing anything.

Solution: Turn your thinking around: you can do this! You don't needdiscipline. Find ways to make yourself a success at your goal. If youfail, learn from your mistakes, and try again. Instead of putting agoal off for later, start now. And focus on one goal at a time, putting all of your energy into it, and getting as much help fromothers as you can. You can really move mountains if you start withpositive thinking.

Effective Communication

Page 41: Best Things about knowledge

You might have experienced misunderstanding in family or official life on several occasions. The reason is obvious that either of the person didn't state his/her stance in clear fashion or perceive it clearly. So where does the fault lie and how can we improve? Let us study the below recommendations which need to be considered by Communicator or Listener in order to have solid common understanding and avoid communication gaps.

1.     Improve vocabulary: Every word has its own deep meanings. For example there is a difference between 'Hate' and 'Dislike'. Likewise, there is a difference between 'Should' and 'Must'. To enhance vocabulary you should learn new words and understand the meanings of synonyms and antonyms as well. You can use online dictionaries or built-in features of MS Word (right click on a word to know synonyms/antonyms.

2.    Listen carefully and listen more. If you listen more you are absorbing more and improving your level of comprehension. If you speak more you are on the verge of confusing others. So listen more and speak less. And when you speak, speak slowly and softly. Ask if you have communicated clearly or more elaboration is required.

3.    If you don't understand something, ask for elaboration. It is said that "If you doubt at first, doubt again and clear it"

4.    Put yourself in others' shoes to understand their perspective. Think win-win. Analyze the situation from everyone's perspective. Consider all the stake holders and consider their emotions. Develop Emotional Intelligence skill. Google it today. Article written by Junaid.Tahir

5.    If you are writing Emails/Letters/Fax then re-read after you are done with typing. Considering point-4 while you review your article. You can ask someone to comment on what you have written.

6.    Avoid hard words to avoid bad taste: For example instead of saying 'Rejected' use the word 'Not Approved'. When you say No, you should sound as if you wanted to say Yes but due to specific issue you can't say yes. So if that issue is addressed, you will be saying Yes and Saying Approved. Article written by Junaid.Tahir

7.    Avoid too many arguments. Convince or get convinced. If things gets complicated, take a break… engage some well-wishers to assist resolve the matter.

Further, I would recommend understanding Berlos Model of Communication. As per him, there are 4 factors which can ensure strong communication if considered properly. These are Source, Message, Channel Receiver. By source he means that the speaker needs to have good communication skills,

Page 42: Best Things about knowledge

positive attitude, has understanding of cultural aspects and proper knowledge on the subject. By Message he means that the speaker has to use mature and to-the-point wordings. By Channel means that correct medium at correct time (phone call, physical appearance, email, fax) to be used. By Receiver he means that Receiver needs to understand the message clearly. The Receiver's level of understanding, attitude and Listening skills matter a lot.

Conclusion: Effective Communication is an indication of your wisdom and maturity level and is critically important to enhance your personal and professional relationship. Developing this habit will improve your bonds with your friends, colleagues and family members so start working on this starting today…

It’s common to hear people say that fame only brings unhappiness. Not true! As these wise words from modern and historical celebrities (and a group of happiness scientists) show, they’ve figured out the secrets of happy people and a happy life. Let’s hear it in their own words, shall we?

1. Happiness is who you are“I am determined to be cheerful and happy in whatever situation I may find myself. For I have learned that the greater part of our misery or unhappiness is determined not by our circumstance but by our disposition”

- Martha Washington

Genuinely happy people have an almost magical ability to stay in good spirits even when there isn’t a great deal to be cheerful about. When happiness is a core aspect of your personality, nothing can force you to be unhappy.

2. Happiness is a choice you make“I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be.”

- Groucho Marx

The next time you find yourself in a difficult situation, ask yourself this: would you rather have a difficult and unhappy time, or stay happy through the tough times? Your choice.

3. Happiness comes from self-consistency“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”

- Mahatma Gandhi

As any psychologist will tell you, it’s human nature to want your thoughts, words and deeds to be consistent—but you’ll often find yourself trying to fit the mould of what you think other people want instead of being fully and consistently yourself. That leads to conflict in your mind, which leads to a less happy life.

4. Happiness is your own

responsibility

“Don’t wait around for other people to be happy for you. Any happiness you get you’ve got to make yourself.”

- Alice Walker

There’s nothing more depressing than waiting for the happiness delivery guy. Why? Because he doesn’t exist. Decide to deliver your own happiness, and you can free yourself from a very long wait.

5. Happiness is best served in moderation“We cannot be happy if we expect to live all the time at the highest peak of intensity. Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance and order and rhythm and harmony.”

- Thomas Merton

Guess what? Spending all your time wishing you were happier will only make you more depressed. Aim for a comfortable day-to-day background level of happiness, rather than a huge blast of ecstatic joy that leaves you feeling wiped out.

Page 46: Best Things about knowledge

6. Happiness is not in your memories“The first recipe for happiness is: avoid too lengthy meditation on the past.”

- Andre Maurois

Reminiscing about good memories can leave you feeling happy for a while, it’s true, but the source of happiness is now. Dwelling on past happiness doesn’t change today, so stay in the present to make this your happy day. And if you find yourself dwelling on unhappy memories instead, let them go—all they do is keep you from achieving happiness today.

7. Happiness is not in your ambitions“Future: That period of time in which our affairs prosper, our friends are true and our happiness is assured.”

- Ambrose Bierce

The author of The Devil’s Dictionary, Ambrose Bierce knew exactly how to be happy: simply avoid pinning your hopes on the unpredictable future. (He also knew a lot about sarcasm.) Hopes and ambitions for the future are nice, but being happy in the moment is better.

8. Happiness is contagious“Whoever is happy will make others happy too.”

- Anne Frank

It’s a fact: smiling at somebody tends to make them feel happier. Laughing has an even stronger effect. So wherever you go, share your happiness with the people you meet, and surround yourself with happy people if you can.

9. Happiness is destroyed by envy“The talent for being happy is appreciating and liking what you have, instead of what you don’t have.”

- Woody Allen

Nobody who spends their life wishing they had more than they’ve got is ever going to achieve lasting happiness. But if you dial down your sense of envy and entitlement, you’ll be happy more often than not.

10. Happiness can’t be bought“Money won’t make you happy… but everyone wants to find out for themselves.”

- Zig Ziglar

As a cliche, “you can’t buy happiness” is right up there with classics like “no use crying over spilt milk” or “crime doesn’t pay”, but the reason those cliches are so popular is that they’ve got a big hunk of truth in them, so don’t expect to get happier by spending more money!

11. Happiness can’t be compared“The man with a toothache thinks everyone happy whose teeth are sound.”

- George Bernard Shaw

Before you make yourself unhappy by fretting that everybody else is happier than you, realise that they’ve all got problems; that’s… well, that’s life, folks. Instead of comparing your happiness to somebody else’s, try comparing it to your saddest moments. Suddenly, things don’t seem so bad after all.

12. Happiness is not on Facebook“The more they used Facebook… the more their life satisfaction levels declined over time.”

- Ethan Kross et al., in a research paper published by PLOS One

Page 49: Best Things about knowledge

Seriously, did you think all those party photos and excitable status updates meant that everyone’s having a ball? Nope, it just means they post on Facebook when they’re happy because they want to share that happiness (and maybe brag about it just a tiny bit). See happiness secret #11!

13. Happiness is making every day matter“As a well-spent day brings happy sleep, so a life well spent brings happy death.”

- Leonardo da Vinci

Inaction rarely makes people happy. We need to feel that our existence has meaning and purpose in order to be happy, so spend each day doing the things that are most important to you.

14. Happiness means knowing what you love“It’s a helluva start, being able to recognize what makes you happy.”

- Lucille Ball

Let’s face it—if you don’t know what makes you happy it’s about time you started to figure it out. What makes you smile? What leaves you feeling great? Keep on with those things and your happiness will always have fuel.

15. Happiness is a gift. Accept it.“I must learn to be content with being happier than I deserve.”

- Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

Are you cheating yourself out of happiness because you don’t feel you’ve earned it? Breaking news: you don’t have to earn happiness. It’s a gift—from your friends, from strangers, from the universe, from yourself. Give it and accept it freely so there’s always plenty in circulation.

Page 50: Best Things about knowledge

16. Happiness is one side of life’s coin“Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word happy would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness.”

- Carl Jung

Nobody can be happy all of the time. If you were, you wouldn’t be able to recognise your happiness because you’d have nothing to compare it to!

17. Happiness is loving (and being loved in return)“If you get a good wife, you’ll become happy; if you get a bad one, you’ll become a philosopher.”

- Socrates

For most of us, a great deal of life’s happiness comes from being around the people we love, and knowing that they love us right back.

18. Happiness comes when you stop looking for it“You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.”

- Albert Camus

The quest for happiness is easily confused with the desire for things that we believe might make us happy. On closer inspection, though, some of the happiest people in the world are those who’ve stopped hunting for a magical happiness guarantee, and are simply happy to exist.

Story: House of 1000 Mirrors

Page 52: Best Things about knowledge

Long ago in a small, far away village, there was place known as the House of 1000 Mirrors.

A small, happy little dog learned of this place and decided to visit. When he arrived, he bounced happily up the stairs to the doorway of the house.

He looked through the doorway with his ears lifted high and his tail wagging as fast as it could. To his great surprise, he found himself staring at 1000 other happy little dogs with their tails wagging just as fast as his. He smiled a great smile, and was answered with 1000 great smiles just as warm and friendly. As he left the House, he thought to himself, "This is a wonderful place. I will come back and visit it often."

In this same village, another little dog, who was not quite as happy as the first one, decided to visit the house. He slowly climbed the stairs and hung his head low as he looked into the door.

When he saw the 1000 unfriendly looking dogs staring back at him, he growled at them and was horrified to see 1000 little dogs growling back at him. As he left, he thought to himself, "That is a horrible place, and I will never go back there again."

All the faces in the world are mirrors. What kind of reflections do you see in the faces of the people you meet?

Story: The Three Dolls

A sage presented a prince with a set of three small dolls. The prince was not amused. “Am I a girl that you give me dolls?” – He asked.“This is a gift for a future king,” Said the sage. “If you look carefully, you’ll see a hole in the ear of each doll.” The sage handed him a piece of string. “Pass it through each doll.” – He said. Intrigued, the prince picked up the first doll and put the string into the ear. It came out from the other ear. “This is one type of person,” said the sage,

“whatever you tell him, comes out from the other ear. He doesn’t retain anything.” The prince put the string into the second doll. It came out from the mouth. “This is the second type of person,” said the sage, “whatever you tell him, he tells everybody else.” The prince picked up the third doll and repeated the process. The string did not come out. “This is the third type of person,” said the sage, “whatever you tell him is locked up within him. It never comes out.” “What is the best type of person?” – Asked the prince. The sage handed him a fourth doll, in answer. When the prince put the string into the doll, it came out from the other ear.  “Do it again.” – Said the sage. The prince repeated the process. This time the string came out from the mouth. When he put the string in a third time, it did not come out at all. “This is the best type of person,” said the sage. “To be trustworthy, a man must know when not to listen, when to remain silent and when to speak out.”

10 Steps For Becoming A Leader

Everyone wants to lead, but at what cost? A careless approach to leadership can result in major losses for everyone.

Most of us can recall a leader who just wasn't cut out for the job. Being a leader is demanding; becoming a great leader is uncommon. Followers aren't particularly merciful to those who lead incompetently. Instead, they can respond with insubordination, decreased productivity, or a generalized attitude of confusion or frustration.

If you are a business leader or thinking about becoming one, here are some mistakes to avoid:

1. Don't lord it over your staff. No one likes a know-it-all. Assuming a cocky stance or a bullying attitude will strike a similar flint in the hearts of your subordinates.

2. Don't be a softie. Just as a sharp edge can have a cutting effect, a marshmallow can quickly lose its shape. Being a people pleaser means that you will inevitably let someone down, so don't

Page 56: Best Things about knowledge

even try. Instead, focus on the job and make it work with everyone's interests as best you can without bending over backwards until you break.

3. Don't put on a over-confident front. If you need information, ask for it rather than pretend you have all the answers. There's nothing wrong with an honest question, but there's plenty wrong with someone who is afraid to ask.

4. Don't misjudge employees' abilities. Take time to read files, interview people, and observe performance before making staffing decisions. Put competent, trustworthy people in charge of important projects so that neither you nor the company will regret it.

5. Don't play favorites. Owing a favor or liking a person are two poor reasons for handing out raises and promotions. Feeling sorry for someone is just as bad. Use good judgment and fair play to make staff decisions.

6. Don't hold a grudge. If you don't get along with someone, stay away from the person; don't try to get even. Leaders who use their position of authority to take punitive action based on personal vendettas are likely to find themselves in trouble.

7. Don't take a casual approach to the budget. Get to know it thoroughly. Understand company growth patterns and long-term projections, as well as how your leadership can play a role. Being careless with money is dangerous and potentially costly in the business world. Careless mistakes take time to fix, and in business, time is money.

8. Don't overlook company shifts, goals, or problems. Study the "big picture" with a view to finding your place in it and growing with the company.

9. Keep an eye on industry trends. Know what's "hot" and what's not; that's how leaders keep leading. Otherwise, someone who is more knowledgeable than you may take your place.

Page 57: Best Things about knowledge

10. Stay human. When mistakes happen, forgive others and yourself. Laugh and be friendly, but don't look foolish doing it. Avoid mechanical responses and a 24/7 mentality toward your job. Do your best, but then leave the rest of your job at work until the next day. It'll be there when you return. At night and on weekends, enjoy your family and have fun. You've earned it.

Becoming a leader is challenging. Follow these suggestions to avoid problems and help your company and your career reach their potential.
