The 2010-11 school year is about to begin for our Preschool and Parents’ Morning Out program!  We have 58 children enrolled so far.  We look forward to nurturing these children and helping them grow in self-esteem and in faith.

Our staff consists of a great group of ladies:  Leanne Williams in the 1’s; Dawn Hardin in the young 2’s; Jenny Vanderpoel in the twos;  Liz Breeden and Deana Roberts in the threes;  Eva Everett, Ashley Everett and Shellie Tyree in the fours.  Joann Blakeley, Pauline Howard, and Maria Page are the assistants.  We began working on August 30 to prepare the rooms for Open House on the first days of school, Tuesday, September 7 and Wednesday, September 8.  Parents and children are invited to meet their teachers and the others who are sharing a class with them.  We are excited to begin the 15th year of this outreach ministry of Bethlehem Church.

During our workdays, the Bethlehem Angels Preschool Board hosted a welcome back luncheon for the staff.  A special thank you is sent out to Sandra Sofley and Jean Harpe for planning the event!HOW TO JOIN BETHLEHEM UMC: If you (and your family) need information about joining Bethlehem UMC as a member, please call our Pastor at the church office (336) 998-5083, or email him at [email protected]. Tell him you are interested and he will be happy to answer all your questions. New members join the church on the first Sundays of each month (or at other times if circumstances warrant). Remember, we would love to have you make your spiritual home at Bethlehem UMC! WHEN YOU PRAYER MEETING… There will be a prayer meeting the last Thursday of each month. The group will be using the “When You Pray” book. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 30 at 7 pm in the CAC. Please join us!

MISSIONS MOMENT (continued)was putting shingles on the roof. No one else wanted to do it, and I ended up being good at it. It was hot! One afternoon, we got to go to a water park. Sam and I had a great time there. The best part of

this trip was getting to help someone that really needed it. It felt good to have that much of an impact on someone.” ~ Alex Norman

“On June 24 through July 1, a few members from Bethlehem and some other people went on a mission trip to Williamsburg, Kentucky. Green Meadows Baptist and Clemmons First Baptist also went on the trip. We worked through a program called Mountain Outreach that builds houses for families in need of a house. The house we worked on was finished in a week. This was the first mission trip I have been on, and it was a good learning experience for me. I also saw God work though the people working to provide a home for this family.” ~ Sam FosterBENCHES… Benches are needed for the playground and cemetery areas. The United Methodist Men will install the benches and furnish a plaque for a memorial at a cost of $385 per bench. Benches are in-ground and are rubber-coated like the tables at the picnic shelter. Call Steve McDowell (817-6129) with questions or to sign up. An order will be placed when we have a minimum of three.CELL PHONE DONATIONS… Do you have old, unused cell phones lying around the house? Put them to good use by donating them to Davie Domestic Violence Services and Rape Crisis Center. Donated phones are either refurbished for reimbursement for client services or reactivated for client use. Safety is a key issue for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault; a cell phone activated with 911 telephone service can be extremely necessary and even life-saving. Please place your old cell phones (with charger if you have it) in the designated box in the Missions Room. For questions, please contact Virginia Burnette (998-2660 after 6:00 pm).

MISSIONS MOMENTMountain Outreach was begun by two college students from

Cumberland College, now known as University of the Cumberlands, who felt compassion for the people living in the Appalachia area and

Page 9: Bethlehem Messenger - Clover Sitesstorage.cloversites.com/.../Sept10newsletter.docx  · Web viewBethlehem Messenger. Church Office. 336 ... On Sunday afternoons the Middle School

thus would use their weekends to repair houses for area residents. Over time, the ministry developed into “building a house and creating a home” for numerous families in the Williamsburg, Kentucky area, where, on the average, three houses are built each year.

Seventy-two building team members from Bethlehem UMC, Clemmons First Baptist, Green Meadows Baptist, and Trinity-Northbrook Baptist (in Ohio) headed for Williamsburg at the end of June to spend a week building a house from the ground to completion, fully furnished with appliances and furniture. The team spent 10-15 hours a day building a home for the three members of the Ward family, who came every day to help work on their new house, including the son, Robert, who suffers from epileptic seizures.

All the hands involved with this project were truly doing God’s work to help this family. The six members from Bethlehem UMC were Justin Riddle, Christin Howard, Gary Holt, Mike Allen, Sam Foster, and Alex Norman. This was Bethlehem’s first involvement with Mountain Outreach and the first mission trip for three of the six Bethlehem members. Mike, a first-timer, said this experience changed his life, and he is anxious to go again. Sam and Alex, also first-timers and outstanding members of the Bethlehem youth group, are sharing their thoughts and experiences as part of this month’s Missions Moment. From working on a rooftop until 9:30 pm to finish a home for a family in need to witnessing Christ’s love to a lost and lonely 18-year old girl on the sidewalk at Cumberland Falls, this was an especially fulfilling and meaningful mission trip for all six of these very special individuals. – Virginia Burnette, Missions Chair

“Seven other people and I went to Williamsburg, Kentucky on a mission trip. We built a house for a family in seven days. It made me feel really good because I was helping a family that really needed a new home. I met the family. The son, Robert, was cool. Sam Foster and I talked with him a lot. He became a really good friend. I tried many new tasks upon building the house. My favorite part May 24, 2010Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Since 1998, A Storehouse For Jesus, Mocksville has worked in conjunction with the Storehouse For Jesus, Ghana to help spread the Word of God and touch the lives of many people in Ghana, West Africa. At a Storehouse For Jesus, Mocksville, the clients come to us for help – in Ghana, the Storehouse must go to the people to bring relief aid and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Not only does Storehouse, Ghana not have it’s own building, but very few villagers have transportation, roads are very rough, and poverty is extreme. In 1999, a Davie County couple purchased a used van for A Storehouse For Jesus, Ghana, to use in their outreach ministries. Throughout the years, the van has been used for distribution, evangelism, clinics, children’s Christmas programs, transportation of mission teams, etc. The last couple of years, the ministry has concentrated on going where other missionaries do not go – to villages in remote areas that have never heard of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The van has reached a point where it can no longer be repaired. As a result, the work in Ghana has come to a complete halt until a vehicle can be bought so that Storehouse, Ghana, may continue to minister to the lost and needy. The Board of Directors of the Mocksville Storehouse has voted to spearhead an effort to try to raise the $38,000 needed to purchase a new van with a three year warranty to enable the work in Ghana, West Africa to continue. We need your help. We are calling on individuals and churches to join in this effort that will allow the work of God and the ministry to the unsaved people in Ghana to continue. We thank you for your past support to the Storehouse ministry and pray that you will give this request prayerful consideration. All checks should be written to A Storehouse For Jesus and designated in the memo section to “Ghana Direct – Van” and mailed to: Storehouse For Jesus, PO Box 216, Mocksville, NC 27028Your Servants in Christ,Marie Collins Sarah Wood

WOW! Eric and I have been welcomed so warmly in our move to Advance. We appreciate the kindness and thoughtfulness you have surrounded us with. Thank you for the help in moving all our stuff off of the trucks, setting up our bed, lining all of our cabinets and placing all of our kitchen items in their places. The food has been long-awaited, as the food in Asheville doesn’t even compare to the Piedmont, home cooked or restaurant (and I’m talking BBQ!) The first Sunday we worshiped we were presented with a love offering you had collected before our arrival. This love offering has helped us in buying a washing machine and dryer and other things we needed to set up housekeeping. We especially give thanks for your friendships. Many of you have come by our house to visit us, please continue to come by 125 Little John Drive. You are always welcome! In God’s Grace and Love, Eric and Cindy Furr
