PTCL Business In a Box Unit Overview

LED Description The front panel contains lights called LEDs that indicate the status of the PTCL BIB Unit.

LED Color Status Description

POWER Green On The device is power on.

Off The device is power off.

Red On The device is booting up.

LAN1‐4 Green On The LAN port is connected to a powered Ethernet device.

Blinking The data is sending/ receiving via LAN port.

Off The LAN port is not connected to any Ethernet device.

USB1‐3 Green On A powered device has connected to the USB port.

Blinking The data is sending/ receiving via USB port.

Off No powered device has connected to the USB port.

WLAN Green On The wireless feature is enabled.

Blinking The IAD is sending/ receiving through wireless.

Off The wireless feature is disabled.

WPS Green On The WPS is in progress and status is successful

Red On The WPS encounters problem or session overlap.

Phone1‐2 Green On The associated phone port has registered with a SIP proxy server.

Blinking The associated telephone is off‐hook.

Off The phone line is not registered or the associated device is power off.


PSTN Green On The device is successfully switched to PSTN line when DSL line failed.

Off The device is not in PSTN mode.

DSL Green On The device is successfully linked with ADSL head‐end.

Slow Blinking The device is trying to link with ADSL head‐end.

Fast Blinking The device is handshaking with the ADSL head‐end.

Off The device is not linked with ADSL head‐end.

Internet Green On The device is successfully connected to the Internet.

Blinking The device is sending/receiving data via the Internet.

Off The device is not connected to the Internet.

Red On The device is failed to authenticate with the ISP due to username or password error.

Ports and Buttons The rear panel contains the ports for the PTCL BIB Unit's data and power connections.

1. POWER: Connector for a power adapter. Using a power supply with a different voltage rating will damage this product. Make sure to observe the proper power requirements. The requirement of adapter is 12VDC/ 1.5A.

2. ON/OFF: Power switch to power on/off the PTCL BIB Unit.

3. LAN1 ‐ 4: Connectors for Ethernet network devices, such as a PC, hub, switch or router.

4. USB1‐2: Connection points for USB supported printer.

5. USB3: Connector for USB equipped PC.

6. PHONE1‐2: Connectors for Normal PSTN POTS telephone sets.

7. DSL: Connector for accessing the Internet through ADSL line.

8. RST (RESET): Restores the default settings. You may need to restore the PTCL BIB Unit to its factory defaults if the configuration is changed or you lose the ability to enter the PTCL BIB Unit via the web interface or following a software upgrade or you lose the ability to enter the PTCL BIB Unit. To reset the PTCL BIB Unit, simply press the reset button for more than 8 seconds. The PTCL BIB Unit will be reset to its factory defaults. The reboot process will take about 30 seconds and the PTCL BIB Unit will become operational again.

Installing your PTCL Business In a Box (BiB) Unit 1. Locate an optimum location for the PTCL BIB Unit.

2. For connections to the Ethernet and DSL interfaces, refer to the Quick Start Guide.

3. Connect the Power Adapter. Depending upon the type of network, you may want to put the power supply on an uninterruptible supply. Use only the power adapter supplied with the PTCL BIB Unit. A different adapter may damage the product. Warranty shall be lost in case the damage is due to use of power adapter other than the one supplied by PTCL.

Installing USB Driver (optional) You must install the USB driver before you can use the PTCL BIB Unit via an USB connection. Please follow the steps below (may vary for each computer) to complete the USB driver installation on a Windows 2000/XP operating system.

1. After connecting the PTCL BIB Unit to computer, the system will detect the new hardware and show the Found New Hardware Wizard window. Select Yes, this time only and then click Next.

2. Insert the USB driver CD‐ROM into computer’s CD‐ROM drive. Select Install the software automatically (Recommended) and then click Next.

Click Continue Anyway to continue the installation.


3. Click Finish to complete the installation.

Configuring TCP/IP This section will help you to establish a connection between a PC and the PTCL BIB Unit. Each

computer that will be part of your network needs to communicate with the PTCL BIB Unit. To do

this, you may need to configure each PC’s network settings to automatically obtain an IP address.

This configuration assumes you have retained the default interface for Windows XP. If you are

running the ‘Classic’ interface, please follow the instructions for Windows XP.

1. Select Start>Settings>Control Panel.

2. Double‐click Network and Dial‐Up Connections.

3. Double‐click the Local Area Connection appropriate for your Ethernet adapter.

4. Click Properties. The Local Area Properties window is displayed.

5. Ensure the box next to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is selected.

6. Click to highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties. The Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window is displayed.

7. Select Obtain an IP address automatically if you are connecting the PTCL BIB Unit to the PC via Ethernet. Otherwise, select Use the following IP address and specify an IP address within the subnet such as 192.168.1.5 (assuming the IP address of the PTCL BIB Unit is 192.168.1.1) if you are connecting the PTCL BIB Unit to the PC via USB.

8. Click OK twice to exit and save your settings.


Login to Your PTCL BIB Unit This section guides you through configuring your PTCL BIB Unit. You should have your computers configured for DHCP mode and have proxies disabled on your browser. If you do not get the page as shown below, you may need to delete your temporary Internet files by flushing the cached web pages.

Follow the procedures below to login to your PTCL BIB Unit.

1. Open your web browser. Type the default IP address of the PTCL BIB Unit http://192.168.1.1 and press Enter. The Log In page appears.

2. Enter user name as admin and password as admin(case sensitive).

3. Click OK. The main page appears.

Creating High Speed Internet (HIS) from Layer 2 / WAN Interface tab.

Creating HSI involves 2 steps to be followed in succession as described below

Note: the unit has a PVC (VPI = 0 and VCI =33) by default, it is advisable to remove the same before

configuring the first PVC.

1‐Enter VPI and VCI information as received from

PTCL

2‐ The type of DSL link has to be identified (for PTCL

case this would be EoA – PPOE / Bridge option

3‐ The type of encapsulation has be entered along

with service category

4‐ The type of connection has to be identified here.

For HSI case this would be kept as default mode

5‐ To maintain QoS for the specific PVC enable the

QoS (not applicable for CBR and realtime VBR)

1‐Click to add a new

WAN interface

2‐ Choose the ATM PVC to which the

WAN service needs to be associated

3‐ Click next to proceed


Define the User name and Password for the connection

Next the DNS configuration needs to be set for this WAN interface

Select the default gateway

4‐ Select the WAN service type – For

HSI connection this shall be PPPoE

5‐ input the user name and password as received from PTCL

and select authentication method to auto

6‐ Enable IGMP multicast proxy

7‐ Chose the DNS server (static or dynamically obtained from

ISP). For PTCL case keep the same to dynamic

8‐ Default gateway interface has to be chosen from the drop

down menu


Check the WAN setup summary to have an overview of the configured settings


Creating bridged PVC for IPTV service

PTCL also provides IPTV service to its customers. to configure the same the following procedure has

to be followed

1‐ Creating a new ATM PVC (VPI / VCI information will be provided by PTCL)

2‐ Creating WAN service

Creating PVC for IP TV

As we created PVC for HSI (high speed interconnection) in our last section, the same will appear in

the DSL ATM interface configuration. A new PVC need to be created for IPTV service as shown below

On completion of above configuration a second ATM PVC will appear under DSL ATM interface configuration menu

1‐ Click Add to create new PVC

1‐Enter VPI and VCI information as received from PTCL

2‐ The type of DSL link has to be identified (for PTCL case this would

be EoA – PPOE / Bridge option

3‐ The type of encapsulation has be entered along

with service category

4‐ The type of connection has to be identified here.

For HSI case this would be kept as default mode






Creating WAN Service for IPTV Interface

Use the WAN service setup page to configure a new WAN service,

Next select a layer 2 interface

Configure the WAN service, for IPTV service the same need to be set to BRIDGING

Finally associate a Default gateway and DNS server to this WAN interface (follow the same steps as mentioned under HSI setup)

To confirm upon configuration, review the WAN setup summary page as shown below

1‐ Click add to configure a new WAN service

2‐ Select the ATM PVC from the drop down menu

to be associated with the IPTV WAN service.

3‐ For IPTV service select bridge mode as WAN

service.


After completion of the IPTV service setup, the WAN service setup and WAN summary info will as follows

Creating WAN interface for 3G EVDO connectivity

PTCL BIB unit provides 3G EVO backup feature also. This feature needs to be enabled

Use the WAN service interface configuration tab to setup 3G (EVO) connectivity.

The above procedure will create a new WAN service for 3G access and the same will be shown

on WAN service setup page

1‐ Select 3G from the drop down menu for

configuring 3G connectivity

2‐ Enable the 3G mode for auto backup and set

1‐ 3G phone number

2‐ PPP username and password

The above information will be provided by PTCL (SP)


Verifying EVO Backup Connectivity in case DSL Line goes down:

To confirm upon EVO backup working, establish a HSI connection as shown below. Either disable the

account or remove the HSI cable to initiate the switch from HSI to EVO.

After 60 Seconds the unit will switch over to EVO:

1‐ DSL line disconnected to initiate EVO

switch

2‐ the new EVO link established after loss of

DSL service


Setting up I-Sentry Service a‐ To setup I‐Sentry service on PTCL BIB unit a virtual server has to be created on the unit. The

following section helps to create a virtual server.

Chose the NAT tab from main page to create a virtual server Click Add to create a new virtual server. Further details are provided on the next page


Click Apply/Save after performing steps 1 to 4 to enable the virtual server. The following window

confirms the creation of a virtual server

1‐WAN interface to be identified for

I‐sentry service

2‐Enter service name

3‐ Enter IP address of the I‐Sentry Camera. This IP is retrieved by using I‐Sentry Software

4‐Enter the Port number retrieved using I‐Sentry software as well as protocol (TCP) for this services


The following software needs to be downloaded from PTCL web‐site http://isentry.ptcl.com.pk,

A user name and password will be provided by PTCL I‐sentry team. The same shall be used to enable the service.


Setting up SIP accounts The PTCL BIB unit also allows to setup SIP Accounts and use the on‐board FXS ports to make on‐

net and off‐net calls. In addition to this PTCL SIP accounts can also be configured on Soft clients

such as BRIA. Setup details are as under

Using on‐board FXS ports Use the voice tab on main menu to access the basic settings page as shown below

Note: The dial plan needs to be modified with special care for landline and mobile numbers.

Example format is as under

The format given above is xxxxxx I xxxxxxxx (where first x’s represent a number /dial plan and

the sign (I) has to be used as separator between dial plans. The second series of x’s represent a

second dial plan

Example: 0512290435 I 03008549351 shall be written as (10 digit landline number and 11 digit

mobile number

xxxxxxxxxx followed by separator (I) xxxxxxxxxxx (10 x’s for landline number with area code and

11 x’s for mobile number)

1‐ The unit has 2 on‐board FXS ports, choose the port you need to configure

2‐ Choose SIP as the voice protocol

3‐ Enter the SIP account # as provided by PTCL

4‐ Enter the display name as provided by PTCL as well as the authorization name and authorization password provided by PTCL

5‐ Enter the registrar address as provided by PTCL. The SIP account will register to this registrar. Enter the registrar port (5060 default) as well as registrar expiration time. The dial plan needs to be modified as per requirement

6‐ Enter the Domain name and outbound proxy port as provided by PTCL. It is most critical to bind an interface for routing the calls


Softphone settings To configure the SIP account on a softphone (like BRIA) the following settings shall be made

1‐ SIP Account name as provided by PTCL. (This is normally the end point SIP number. The protocol also needs to be set to SIP

2‐ The User ID, password, and display name as well as the authorization name as received from PTCL need to enter correctly. User ID and authorization name need to enter with the correct domin name.

3‐The soft phone shall be configured to use registration with domain and proxy address as received from PTCL shall be entered


Setting up secured IP-Sec connection PTCL BIB unit also supports IP‐Sec VPN connectivity. A usual VPN setup is based on the following

scenario

VPN setup requires a defined Password to be shared between the two parties. Use the IPSec tab on

the main menu to access the IP‐Sec settings. The screenshot shown on the following page will

appear. The settings for both the BIB units are described below;


BIB Unit‐1 settings

1‐ Define a general name for the IP‐Sec connection and provide the remote modem Public IP

2‐Based on type of IP‐Sec connection required (single user or multi‐user), the user needs to identify either an IP address or a complete subnet

3‐Likewise the information regarding remote IP’s (single or a subnet) need to be provided

4‐IPSec tunnels require a pre‐shared key that shall be known by both the parties, both parties shall enter the same key

5‐Press Hide advanced settings to hide / un hide advanced settings

6‐This section is to be kept as default unless necessary to change. This section provides additional security for the link

VPN Pass through Settings

The following section presents the settings required to configure the VPN Pass through feature on

PTCL BIB unit

Under the NAT settings use the ALG field to activate VPN Pass through feature.

This will allow the BIB unit to act as a VPN Pass‐through unit, hence VPN can be setup on routers

placed behind the BIB unit.


USB storage settings The PTCL BIB unit can also connect to storage media using USB ports available on the unit itself. This

involves attaching a USB storage disk with one of the two ports available on the modem. To access

the storage media user needs to enter the following command in browser

fttp:// ip‐address of the modem

Print Server for windows XP The PTCL BIB unit can also act as a print server and can be used at small office / home office for this

purpose. The following section under Print server menu needs to be set in order to enable print

server function

After enabling print server on the BIB unit, the following settings need to be done on all the client

machines

1‐Enable on‐board print server

2‐Enter print name as well as make and model. The make and model entries need to be replicated on all client machines


Client machine settings (for windows XP)

Choose Add a printer option in control panel of windows XP

Click next to continue


Select the option

A network printer, or a printer attached to antoher computer

Select connect to a printer on the internet and type “http://IP‐address of modem/printers/(the

string) entered in Make and model field under print server setting of the modem

Note: the make and model field on modem and the string field shall be exactly same

.

APPENDIX – A Important steps to follow for deleting a connection.

In order to delete any connection, the WAN service corresponding to that service needs to be

deleted. The belwo snapshot shows the 3 services (PPPoE, Bridge and EVO) that we created. In

order to remove any of the service, check the box in front of the service as shown below

After checking the box press remove to delete the specified WAN interface.

Next we have to delete the ATM PVC by chosing the specific PVC as shown below

After checking the box as shown above, press remove to delete the specific PVC.
