Two years ago when we started our magazine in Thailand, littledid we know it was also the start of many new friendships. Notonly did we make new friends across the 77 provinces in Thailandbut we also found new friends across the globe spreading beyond sixty countries.

Through the many conversations with our readers we realized they wanted to know more and so we now bring to you Bicycles United Asia. With this we have now become Asian, when I say Asian we mean our focus is now more towards cycling in Asia as there are unaccountable cycling stories across Asia we want you to read about. Cyclists from the western countries comes to cycle in and around Asia be it for a cycling race or a cycling tour. Why? Asia brings out the best in countries cultures and its people are unique. Many Many interesting things can be found in each Asian country be it China, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, India, Japan, South Korea and many more Asian countries or cities. What more can a cyclist or rider ask for? The experience is amazing, tantalizing, challenging, indulging and endlessly full of surprises.

With our original mission when creating Bicycles United we wanted to bring cyclists together no matter who they are and what they ride thus we developed our slogan: It does not matter who you are, what bicycle you ride, what matters is you ride a bicycle and indeed it has been well accepted with our readers or anyone who who came across it. So our mission continues, we want cyclists to keep making new friends wherever they will cycle to through the stories we tell so you know there will always be someone you can acquaint with and perhaps even find a life lifetime friend.

One key goal for Bicycles United Asia is to bring Asian cycling tothe global cycling community, a big dream I know and you canhelp make it a reality by sharing our magazine with your friendsacross the globe.

Remember, it does not matter who you are, what bicycle you ride,what matters is you ride a bicycle.

Philippines hosted its first Phil-Bike Expo on 15 - 16th November 2014. Over 10,000 cycling enthusiasts attended the Expo in the 3,000 sq.m exhibition space at the World Trade Center Manila.

From BMX to vintage, the A-Z of cycling was present there. Special guest

was Thomas Oehler a former trials world champion and now a professional demo rider gave a stunning bike show amid avid fans. There were also the launch of Nyfti Bicycles, Philippines new brand of folding bicycle.

The festivities started this morning at the residence of the Dutch ambassador to France in Paris. Bernard Hinault, Jan Janssen and Joop Zoetemelk, some of the distinguished guests in attendance, then hopped onto a Thalys painted...

The countdown has begun. There is a year, seven months and six days until the 102nd edition of the Tour de France kicks off from Utrecht. The fourth largest city in the Netherlands will be at the heart of the cycling world as well as its country. After bursting back onto the scene in July 2013 with Bauke Mollema (6th) and Laurens Ten Dam (13th), the Dutch armada will work hard to shine in front of the home crowds in the opening time trial of July 4. A 13.7 km pancake-flat course entirely within the city will decide who gets to wear the first yellow jersey of the 2015 Tour. The next

day, the peloton will congregate in front of Utrechts Exhibition Centre for the start of the first road race stage. Plenty of cards to play for the Dutch, who have not won a Tour stage since 2005. The roaring crowds will hope that one of their heroes can follow in the footsteps of Jan Janssen and Joop Zoetemelk, who won the Grande Boucle in 1968 and 1980, respectively.Christian Prudhomme, Director of the Tour de France: The Netherlands is a cycling nation, one which has written quite a few remarkable chapters of the history of the Tour de France. A cycling accident can happen at any moment, in any city, country or continent. Tragically when it ends in death does it hit us all but life

goes on and we set out to continue our journey. We like to pay our tribute to Juan Francisco Guillermo who died tragically in Thailand.

Juan Francisco Guillermo1967-2015

TRIBUTE

Juan Francisco Guillermo from Chile, aged 48 died whilst cycling on his five year round the world journey that started in November 2010 and would have put him in the Guinness Book of Records cycling 250,000 km had he been able to complete his journey this year in November 2015. Sadly this was now not to be. He met his wife on his cycling expedition, they fell in love, married and together have a beautiful baby boy now aged 2. He continued his journey together with his wife and son.

Not long before the accident occurred Juan Francisco Guillermo, his Singaporean wife Ng Poh Leng and their 2 year old son Lucas stopped at a police checkpoint in Khon Kaen Province, Phon district. He chatted with the police about his cycling journey before they took off to continue to ride together on to Nakhon Ratchasima. Juan Francisco Guillermo was hit by speeding pick up truck. He was thrown off his bicycle and died instantly, both his wife and son sustained injuries and was admitted to hospital.

In February 2013 a British couple, Peter Root and Mary Thompson who had set off on their round the world cycling expedition since July 2011 was also killed by a pickup truck in a road accident in Chachoengsao, Thailand.

Thailands Cycling Network has launched the Stop Killing Cyclist campaign in view of these tragic cycling accidents to make Thailand a safer country to ride. Thailand is one of the best countries in the world for cycling, more attention should be made to educate drivers about the safety of the roads and also about sharing the roadswith bicycles. This is not just for cyclists but also for the pedestrians. Then again this problem is not just a problem for Thailand alone but it is also happening in many countries. It would be great if Thailand can take the lead to show how amazingly beautiful, amazingly wonderful and amazingly safe it can be for cyclists.

MAD DOGS & ENGLISHMAN, NOT QUITE I met with Humphrey Wilson, Founder of Mad Dogs Adventure in Singapore and I made contact with him in Hong Kong where he told me about his extraordinary adventure that started from London and ending up in Hong Kong. I had also registered for his talk hosted by Racing the Planet and I am sure touring cyclists will be interested too and for those planning on a cycling tour may even be inspired to do a journey such as his.

Cycling on the PARENZANA ROUTEAncient border triangle railway route transforms into cycling path

This map shows all 35 former train stations of the old Parenzana Railway. The route starts right at the Italian-Slovenian border in Trieste, and then runs through Slovenia before entering the most scenic part of the ride in Croatia. The Croatian part of the tour gives a detailed look at the beautiful Istria peninsula.



Also renewed: The old Parenzana kilometer stones. TPC stands for Trieste-Parenzo-Canfanaro. Actually the railway route was planned to run to Canfanaro, but it never made it to there. The final destination has always been Porec.

Bikers wont get lost in Istria. Since the success of the Parenzana Cycling Routes, more and more bike routes are clearly signposted and good maps are available everywhere.

Detailed information along the Parenzana Cycling Route is provided not only about the route itself but also about its historical background.

Here the Parenzana Cycling Route runs through some scene olive tree fields.

Guido Schwengersbauer welcomes cyclists to stay at his restaurant and guesthouse La Parenzana Casa Romantica located right on the Parenzana Cycling Route. The native Austrian can also give detailed tips and advice to Parenzana newcomers.



Sitnica Extreme founder and general manager Alen Augustin is sure that with the Parenzana Cycling Route now established, we can develop to be a top cycling destination! Here he is showing some further signposted Istrian mountainbike trails.

After reaching the highest point of the Parenzana Cycling Route at the artists mountain village of Grozjnan, the route runs slowly down to the final destination of Porec on the Istrian west coast.
