GENERAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES:
1. THE WORK INCLUDES DEMOLITION OF A WOODEN BULKHEAD AND ASSOCIATED PILES, FILL REMOVAL, BEACH SEDIMENT PLACEMENT, SEEDING, ANDPICNIC AND BEACH ACCESS IMPROVEMENTS .
2. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL KEEP DISTURBED AREAS WITHIN THE PROJECT LIMITS SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS, AND SHALL NOT EXTEND THESE LIMITSUNLESS APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER.
3. ACCESS TO SITE SHALL PREDOMINANTLY OCCUR FROM THE WATER. WHEN THE TIDE IS HIGH THE BARGE WILL BE POSITIONED NEAR BEACH TO LOADAND UNLOAD EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS. WHEN THE TIDE IS LOW, THE BARGE WILL STAGE FURTHER OFFSHORE AND DEMOLITION ANDEARTHWORK CAN OCCUR WITHIN A 50' WIDE CORRIDOR WATERWARD OF EXISTING BULKHEAD. THE 50' WIDE CORRIDOR CAN BE EXPANDED ASNECESSARY TO PERMIT REMOVAL OF RIPRAP FURTHER OFFSHORE AS SHOWN IN DEMOLITION PLAN. CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT A BARGEOPERATION PLAN FOR APPROVAL BY ENGINEER PRIOR TO COMMENCING WORK.
4. CONSTRUCTION STAGING AREAS SHALL PREDOMINATELY OCCUR ON BARGE EQUIPMENT THOUGH TEMPORARY MATERIAL STOCKPILES MAY BELOCATED WITHIN THE WORK CORRIDOR DURING LOW TIDES. ALL TEMPORARY MATERIAL STOCKPILES IN THE WORK CORRIDOR SHALL BE REMOVEDOR PLACED BEFORE THEY BECOME SUBMERGED BY THE RISING TIDE. BEACH ACCESS WALKWAY AND PLANTING MATERIALS MAY BE STORED WITHINPARKING LOT SOUTH OF PROJECT AREA AND TRANSPORTED TO THE SITE VIA THE UPLAND TRAIL. CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS SHALL NOT BE STOREDOUTSIDE OF THESE IDENTIFIED STAGING AREAS UNLESS APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER. NO EQUIPMENT OR MATERIALS SHALL BE STORED OVERNIGHTBELOW THE MEAN HIGHER HIGH WATER (MHHW) LINE.
5. EQUIPMENT USED FOR THIS PROJECT SHALL BE FREE OF EXTERIOR PETROLEUM-BASED PRODUCTS WHILE WORKING NEAR ANY SURFACE WATER.ACCUMULATIONS OF SOILS OR DEBRIS SHALL BE REMOVED FROM THE DRIVE MECHANISMS (WHEELS, TRACKS, TIRES, ETC) AND UNDERCARRIAGE OFEQUIPMENT PRIOR TO WORKING BELOW THE MHHW LINE. EQUIPMENT SHALL BE CHECKED AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH WORK SHIFT FOR LEAKS,AND ANY NECESSARY REPAIRS SHALL BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO COMMENCING WORK ACTIVITIES. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE TO ENSURETHAT NO PETROLEUM PRODUCTS, HYDRAULIC FLUID, SEDIMENTS, CHEMICALS, OR ANY OTHER TOXIC OR DELETERIOUS MATERIALS ARE ALLOWED TOENTER OR LEACH INTO THE ADJOINING WATERWAY OR THE PROJECT SITE FROM EQUIPMENT OR MATERIALS USED DURING CONSTRUCTION.
6. IF AT ANY TIME, AS A RESULT OF PROJECT ACTIVITIES, FISH ARE OBSERVED IN DISTRESS, A FISH KILL OCCURS, OR WATER QUALITY PROBLEMS DEVELOP(INCLUDING EQUIPMENT LEAKS OR SPILLS) OPERATIONS SHALL CEASE AND THE OWNER SHALL BE NOTIFIED IMMEDIATELY. WASHINGTONDEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE AND WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT OF ECOLOGY SHALL BE CONTACTED IMMEDIATELY BY THE OWNER OR BYHIS/HER DESIGNEE. WORK SHALL NOT RESUME UNTIL FURTHER APPROVAL BY OWNER.
7. EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL METHODS SHALL BE USED TO PREVENT SILT-LADEN WATER FROM ENTERING THE ADJOINING WATERWAY.MINIMUM EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL METHODS ARE SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS (T-1 AND T-2). THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT FORAPPROVAL BY THE ENGINEER 5 WORKING DAYS PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION A TEMPORARY EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL (TESC) PLANADDRESSING SITE SPECIFIC EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL TECHNIQUES AND METHODS.
8. IF EXTREME HIGH WATER CONDITIONS THAT MAY CAUSE SILTATION, EROSION OR A DANGEROUS WORK ENVIRONMENT ARE ENCOUNTERED DURINGCONSTRUCTION, WORK SHALL STOP UNTIL THE WATER LEVELS SUBSIDE.
GENERAL CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCING:
1. CONSTRUCT ACCESS AND INSTALL TEMPORARY EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL (TESC) AND TREE PROTECTION MEASURES.
2. REMOVE AND DISPOSE OF WOOD STAIRCASE.
3. CLEAR AND GRUB UPLAND AREA AND EXCAVATE FILL FROM UPLAND LIMITS TO EXISTING BULKHEAD. STOCKPILE SUITABLE SOILS FOR REUSE.CLEARING AND EXCAVATION SHOULD OCCUR IN CONCERT TO AVOID EXPOSED SOILS.
4. DEMOLISH AND REMOVE WOODEN BULKHEAD, PILING, TIE-BACKS AND ASSOCIATED QUARRY SPALLS.
5. REMOVE RIP RAP AND QUARRY SPALLS FROM BEACH, STOCKPILE RIP RAP AND QUARRY SPALLS TO BE REUSED FOR BEACH ACCESS WALKWAY.
6. PLACE GRAVEL BEACH SUBSTRATE, EXCEPT AT BEACH ACCESS WALKWAY.
7. INSTALL BEACH ACCESS WALKWAY AND ASSOCIATED ROCK EDGE, AND REMAINING BEACH GRAVEL SUBSTRATE.
8. PLACE SOIL AMENDMENT AND INSTALL JUTE MATTING.
9. INSTALL HAND BROADCAST SEED MIX
10. INSTALL WOOD FENCE
11. REMOVE TEMPORARY FACILITIES AND CLEANUP SITE.
GENERAL WORK SEQUENCE NOTES:
1. THIS WORK SEQUENCE IS PRESENTED FOR A GENERAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE PROJECT AND ITS CONSTRAINTS IN RELATION TO REMOVAL OF THE EXISTINGBULKHEAD, RELATED SITE ACTIVITY AND WATER QUALITY PROTECTION MEASURES. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR DEVELOPING A DETAILED WORKSEQUENCE AND PHASING PLAN, WHICH SHALL INCLUDE CONSTRUCTION OF TEMPORARY FACILITIES, DEMOLITION OF THE STRUCTURE, INCORPORATION OF ALLEXISTING AND NEW MATERIALS AS DEPICTED ON THE PLANS AND IN THE SPECIFICATIONS, REMOVAL OF ALL TEMPORARY FACILITIES, AND RESTORATION OF THESITE.
2. IN GENERAL, THE WORK SHALL BE SEQUENCED AND PERFORMED IN A MANNER THAT MINIMIZES IMPACTS TO THE SURROUNDING SHORELINE AND SURFACEWATER, EXISTING VEGETATION, AND THE WORK SITE.
3. THE CONTRACTOR MAY DECIDE HOW TO SEQUENCE THE WORK. HOWEVER THE OVERALL PROJECT SCHEDULE WILL BE CONSTRAINED BY AN IN-WATER WORKWINDOW, OUTSIDE OF WHICH NO IN-WATER WORK MAY OCCUR.

PIERCE COUNTY STANDARD TESC NOTES:
1. APPROVAL OF THIS TEMPORARY EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL (TESC) PLANDOES NOT CONSTITUTE AN APPROVAL OF PERMANENT ROAD OR DRAINAGE DESIGN(E.G., SIZE AND LOCATION OF ROADS, PIPES, RESTRICTORS, CHANNELS, RETENTIONFACILITIES, UTILITIES, ETC.).

8. AT NO TIME SHALL MORE THAN 1 FOOT OF SEDIMENT BE ALLOWED TO ACCUMULATEWITHIN A TRAPPED CATCH BASIN. ALL CATCH BASINS AND CONVEYANCE LINES SHALL BECLEANED PRIOR TO PAVING. THE CLEANING OPERATION SHALL NOT FLUSH SEDIMENTLADEN WATER INTO THE DOWNSTREAM SYSTEM.

THESE STABILIZATION REQUIREMENTS APPLY TOALL SOILS ON SITE, WHETHER AT FINAL GRADE OR NOT. THE ENGINEER OR THE OWNER'SREPRESENTATIVE MAY ADJUST THESE TIME LIMITS IF IT CAN BE SHOWN THAT THE SITE'SEROSION OR RUNOFF POTENTIAL JUSTIFIES A DIFFERENT STANDARD.
