Graduation Requirements

• 4 credits of English• 4 credits of Math including Algebra II• 3 credits of Science• 3 credits of Social Studies including Government• 1 credit of Fine Arts• .5 credits of Physical Education• .5 credits of Financial Literacy• 20 credits minimum• State tests (18pts) or “remediation-free” ACT

Graduation Requirements

All students take end-of-course exams:– Algebra I and Geometry– Biology– American History and Government– English 9 and English 10

Students taking AP or College Credit Plus courses in Biology, Amer. History or Government may take

assessments aligned to those courses in lieu of end of course exams

ask questions regarding the graduation requirements for Class of 2019!

Choosing the Right Courses!• Freshman Year begins your student’s permanent

record - Your transcript!– Algebra 1, Geometry, Spanish– May opt out of receiving credit for MS courses

• Keep a competitive schedule all 4 years!

• Academic Honors (cumulative GPA)

• Athletic Eligibility - must be passing 5 courses!

Pre-Registering for CoursesWhat has happened so far?1. Students grades 9-11 have already pre-

registered - CLOSED COURSES2. 8th grade teachers input recommendations

based on student’s performance and work habits in current courses

3. Students attended an Elective Fair last Monday4. “2015-16 Courses for Freshmen” packets and

the “BWHS 2015-16 Course Handbook” were emailed to families and given to students today

Pre-Registering for CoursesWhat happens now?1. Look at “List of Recommended Courses”

- Required courses for Freshmen...1. Discuss course options with BWHS teachers

(“Orientation Schedule”)2. Contact your student’s current 8th grade

teachers for questions about any concerns3. Turn in “Course Pre-Registration Form” tonight

(or by this Wednesday to the Middle School Main Office)

Wednesday, February 25th –Turn in “Pre-Registration Forms”, “PE Waivers”, “Course Request Appeals” to Middle School Office

Friday, February 27th –School Counselors will be at BWMS to help students finish course selections

March 19 - Parent Teacher Conferences @BWMS• School Counselors available

March 20th - Last day for course request changes

Early May - Students receive official schedule

May 27th - Last day for schedule changes

August 1 - Deadline for summer school transcripts
