Our parent support base has always been an impressive component of our school which is continuing in 2021, with every child represented in our P and C meeting last week. There is an abundance of research which supports parental input in schools and we certainly appreciate all of our families who continue to take a keen interest in what is happening in our fabulous school! Thank you to those parents and carers who have had input into our school plan - again it is wonderful to establish such a powerful partnership as we begin our School Improvement Plan for moving our school forward from 2021-2024. Last week we welcomed back Miss Dayna Porter to our school as our Aboriginal Education Officer (AEO.) Miss Porter comes highly recommended and is keen to continue an Aboriginal Language program she started with our students last year and to introduce Aboriginal perspective and culture into our school through dance, song, a bush tucker garden and various other programs. She is keen to support personalised learning goals for all of our students and to enhance their connection to country through the PLP process which will occur for every student during Week 7. Students enjoyed riding to school as part of National Ride2School day on Friday 19th February. Many schools around NSW participated in this day to celebrate an active lifestyle and to reinforce the importance of road safety. Every student road their bike to school before taking part in a road safety lesson (as part of our PD/H/PE curriculum) before putting this knowledge into practice as they rode around a circuit specifically designed for the day by Miss Pope. Wishing everyone a happy week! Yours sincerely Kylie Burns Principal

Principal’s Message

Term 1, Weeks 3 and 4

Thank you to all of our families who continue to show a keen interest in and support of our school by attending recent

meetings such as the Parent Information session held in week 3 and our first P and C meeting which was held last week. Our

parent support base has always been an impressive component of our school which is continuing in 2021, with every child

represented in our P and C meeting last week. There is an abundance of research which supports parental input in schools and we

certainly appreciate all of our families who continue to take a keen interest in what is happening in our fabulous school! Thank

you to those parents and carers who have had input into our school plan - again it is wonderful to establish such a powerful

partnership as we begin our School Improvement Plan for moving our school forward from 2021-2024.

Last week we welcomed back Miss Dayna Porter to our school as our Aboriginal Education Officer (AEO.) Miss Porter

comes highly recommended and is keen to continue an Aboriginal Language program she started with our students last year and

to introduce Aboriginal perspective and culture into our school through dance, song, a bush tucker garden and various other

programs. She is keen to support personalised learning goals for all of our students and to enhance their connection to country

Director, Education Leadership visit

On Thursday 18th February, Mr Chris Shaw visited our school as part of his newly appointed DEL role. Mr

Shaw was successful in the relieving Director position vacated by Mr Mark Young at the conclusion of 2020. Mr

Shaw was very impressed with both our students and our school as he visited and spoke to Miss Burns about

future directions in our School Improvement Plan (SIP). Our two strategic directions (Growth & attainment and

Higher expectations) were both well received. We look forward to working with Mr Shaw over the next year.

School attendance

As you would be aware, attendance at school is crucial in maintaining student outcomes and a sense of

belonging. Whilst we ask students to stay home if they are not feeling well, we do expect that all students attend

school on time and when they are well. Did you know that if your child misses one day a fortnight, by the time they

have completed Year 12, that would equate to a whole year of their schooling missed? The NSW Department of

Education has mandated attendance for all schools to be set at 90% by the end of our current school plan, which

we have achieved easily in past years. If your child’s attendance falls below 85% we are required to inform the

Home and School Liason Officer (HSLO) who will contact you seeking a valid explanation.

P and C meeting

Thank you to all those who attended our recent P and C General Meeting and AGM. Thank you to the

outgoing 2020 Committee who whilst dealing with a difficult year in regards to fundraising opportunities, still

contributed to various projects in our school, including the purchase of a new recycling bin, dishwasher and

seating for our school. Congratulations to those who were elected for 2021

President: Jess Lord

Vice President; Tanille Porter

Secretary: Krystal Guise

Treasurer: Georgina Dalton

We look forward to working with you throughout the year.

Breakfast Club

Our school was successful in attaining a breakfast program which will run 3 days a week and will offer our

students various nutritious options such as cereals and toast to start their morning. As the saying goes—

’breakfast is the most important meal of the day’ and paves the way for quality learning to take place. Thank you

to Mrs Redgrove and Georgina who have both indicated they are happy to help implement the program.

Canteen

After discussions with our P and C recently, it was decided to reintroduce canteen for students on a

Monday. Georgina is currently looking into food availability and cost which abides by the current COVID

guidelines. More information will be provided once we know more details.

Cooking Program

Our cooking and gardening program kicked off last week, with students

weeding our vegetable garden, in preparation for some new plantings. Our bush

tucker garden has also arrived and will be installed by Mr Williams over the coming

weeks.

This week, students cooked some delicious quiches as part of their first

cooking lesson. As discussed in our recent P and C meeting, all children have been

asked to supplement the cooking program by contributing $30 for the year. The

remainder of the costs associated with the ingredients will be funded by the

school. If you have not paid this, please do so as soon as possible. If you would like

to have the money paid by your excursion credit, please contact Mrs Redgrove as

soon as possible.

Ride2School day

As mentioned earlier, students participated in the

National Ride2School day on Friday 19th February. This

day is celebrated to increase physical activity in

students and to raise awareness in road safety. It was

pleasing to see all students take the opportunity to ride

to school under the guidance of their parents and/or

carers. Thank you to Miss Pope who co-ordinated the

day, teaching students about road safety and also

establishing a circuit around our school for students to

ride around.

School Counsellor Visit

On Friday 12th February, our school counsellor, Linda and her trusty companion

Malo visited our school. Linda will be available to our students once every three weeks.

Her position is to support our students in a variety of areas including learning

assessments, referrals, social programs and student wellbeing. If you would like your

child to speak to Linda, please complete the school counsellor referral. Any

conversations will be treated with the greatest degree of confidence.
