Mass Intentions for the Week

BLESSED

When we think of the word “Beatitude” we think of today’s discourse from Luke’s Gospel, or the more familiar one from Matthew (which begins “Blessed are the poor in spirit . . . ”). Actually, beatitudes occur throughout the prophets and Gospels. Today in Jeremiah (with an echo in the psalm) we hear, “Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord” (Jeremiah 17:7). Following his resurrection in John’s Gospel, Christ proclaims, “Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed” (John 20:29). The evangelists placed these sayings throughout the Gospels as short re-minders about the characteristics that one will find in a fol-lower of Christ, characteristics that will help spread the Good News in this life and lead to eternal blessings in the next. In Latin, the saints are called the Beati, the “Blessed,” for they are the ones who lived the “blessed” life as de-scribed by Jesus throughout the Gospels. How blest are we, when we also strive to make our own days a living beati-tude!                                                                   Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

BIENAVENTURADOS O DICHOSOS

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Every third Thursday of the month

What is Eucharistic Adoration? We believe that the bread and wine we consecrate at Mass through the ministry of the priest become truly the Body and Blood of Christ. During the Consecration of the Mass, the priest speaks these words during the Eucharistic Prayer: "TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT, FOR THIS IS MY BODY, WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU; TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT, FOR THIS IS THE CHAL-ICE OF MY BLOOD, THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL COV-ENANT, WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR YOU AND FOR MANY FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS. DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME." Hold this moment of the Mass in time; come to see that it presents a great opportunity for spiritual intimacy with the Lord. Our adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, calls us to spend time in the presence of the Lord as we watch and wait, allowing the power of Christ to transform us. Everyone is invited to come spend some time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. We will have the Eucharistic Adoration in the church on Thursday, Feb-ruary 21, 2019 from 7:30 am - 6:00 pm. followed by Mass. Sign up lists are available at the doors of the church. Please join us in prayer and worship!
