Its a known fact and understood that the Old Testament is not

necessarily in chronological order. Rabbinic commentators suggest that

events in Torah and throughout the Tanach are not always presented in

strict chronological order, as similarity of events can sometimes take

precedence over time1. Just look at the books ofAnd in this weeks

parasha its no different because as we enter into it, we have to remember

that a crucial incident has just previously occurredthe incident of the

    Golden Calf.

Now, I submit this information to you for a reason, and not just to

make you aware of the chronological time-line, but more importantly as it

is key to understanding the deeper meaning behind this weeks parasha,Terumah.

Strongs#8641 it means heave offering; and it means offering,

oblation or present. This is the firsttime this word has been used and itsroot is Strongs#7311, or rwm

The word means to rise or raise, to lift up, lofty, to be high, exalted, representing either the state of being on a higher plane, or movement in an

upward direction. Positively, this word can signify to bring to a position of

honor. Its verb connotes the concept of physical growth and of child

rearing. On a personal note I would like you to consider the two-letter root

of the resh (or head) and the mem(for waters) pictographically meaning

Headwaters, suggesting that the Terumah, or heave offering was presented as a gift

wrapped in a heart of thankfulness back to the Giver of all good gifts, which

is symbolic of where The Living Water originates, who is our Messiah of

    which we read,

    O LORD, the hope of Israel, all who forsake thee shall be put to shame;

those who turn away from thee shall be written in the earth, for they have

forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living water." (Jer 17:13 RSV)

"For the Lamb at the center of the throne will shepherd them, will lead them

to springs of living water, and God will wipe every tear from their eyes."(Rev 7:17 CJB)

Headwaters or the source of the water should also hearken us back to

the Mountain of God, Mount Sinaiwhere HaShem lead, called, and met

with Israel, redeeming His people, became their GOD and entered into a

binding covenant with them. With what did He use to bind Himself to

them? Was it not Torah? Was it not the 10 Commandments and the

    Mishpatim?

Remember, in Hebrew, what is the name of this second book of

Moses that were studying currently? Shemot! And what does Shemot

mean? Literally it means Names, but the root word Shem also refers to a

persons work, reputation, fame and Character2. So it only makes sense that

we learn who YHWH is through His Commandments & Mishpatimwhich

is His Torah! Because His own Word teaches us, For out of the abundance

of the heart the mouth speaks. (Mat 12:34 RSV) And God is revealing to us

His Heart, His Character and His Motives as He speaks, so doesnt it stand

then that if Yeshua who is The Living Torah3, being also the express image

of The Father4, instructed us that if we love Himthen we are going to obey

His commandments5? So then we are connected to God through His Torah,

demonstrated in the flesh through His Son, the Living Torah, The Living

Water, through whom we receive Salvation!

2Behold, God is my salvat ion; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD

JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvat ion. 3

Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvat ion.

    (Isa 12:2-3 KJV)

The word here for salvation in the Hebrew is none other than

    Strongs#3444 which isYESHUA!

The two-letter root word shin-ayin is pictographically revealing teeth used

for devouring or destruction, the ayin is a picture of the eye. Combined

these mean destroyer watches. The shepherd carefully watches over the

flock and the surrounding area always on the lookout for danger. When a

predator comes to attack, the shepherd destroys the enemy9.

Israel has been slowly brought into the knowledge and character of

GOD; First by way of deliverance from the cruel bondage of Pharaoh, and

into the kadosh, set-apart and holy covenant relationship with Himself. But

here is the problem. When a people have been physically, emotionally,

psychologically, & spiritually scarred, tortured, vexed and oppressed for

several hundred years, a heart can become resistant, reluctant, and dread

even, the touch of another person for the fear associated with that same

    oppression.

Nevertheless, what we see in Pharaoh, we see again in Israel, which is

almost natural, quite frankly. Have we never seen, read or heard a story or

even witnessed within ourselves the effect of being bullied, only later to find

out such a nasty character flaw rears its ugly head up in us? In the case of

our ancestors, their bondage became far more ingrained and abysmal. If weread from the account of the gold calf incident lets examine Exodus 32:8,

8They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded

them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and

have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which

have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

9And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and,

behold it s a stiffnecked people:10Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against

them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great

    nation.(Exo. 32:8-10 KJV)

Stiffnecked is such a descriptive word in the English language, but in

order for us to really capture the deeper meaning we must return again to

the Hebrew for understanding. Stiffnecked comes from Strongs#7186,

which is qsheh, rooted in Strongs#7185, which is qshh, comprised of a

Koof, a Shin and a Heh. Meaning to be dense, hardened, or hard hearted,we also see frequent use

of the word relates to the stubborn (stiff-necked) subjects of the Lord. Like

rebellious oxen, calf-worshiping Israel quickly turned aside from the Lords

service(Ex.32:9). The spirit of Israel remained (for the most part)stubborn, intractable, and non-responsive to the guiding of their God6.

The point I want to desperately bring to your attention is the first time we

see this word, qshh used in the book of Shemot is in chapter 7 where we

    read,

3And I will hardenPharaoh's heart, and multiply my signs and my

wonders in the land of Egypt.

    4

But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand uponEgypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel,

out of the land of Egypt by greatjudgments. (Exo7:3-4 KJV)

Interestinginitially this is the same word used to describe Pharaohs

heart condition!Understand that when we read this verse, typically weve

been taught that God hardened Pharaohs heart, but in truth more is to be

learned here than meets the eye. What I want to pass on to you now is a

teaching in Judaism that proves true in Torah and in a heart possessed with

the disease of addiction. Is it possible to be addicted to a thought process?Absolutely, ask any recovering addict if a relapse ever happened

unknowingly. The mind controls the body, and so as the mind leads, the

body bellies up to the table. This is of course is an over-simplification and

we should realize when in the throes of addiction there can be powerful

chemical and spiritual forces at work against an imprisoned heart longing

to be free. But in the case of Egypts Pharaoh, we initially may have asked,

If God will arrange for the confrontation to continue, how canPharaoh be held responsible for his actions and how can we justify his

being punished for what God causes him to do? Although hardening of the

heart seems deterministic, events flow naturally from the ambitions and

conflicts of a human being, Pharaoh, who is seized with the delusion of self

sufficiency. While events unfold under the providence of God, their

unfolding is always according to the motives of the humanbeings through

whom Gods will is done without their realizing it Pharaoh conducted

himself in conformity with his own motives and his own Godless viewofhis status. God made it so, but Pharaoh had only to be himself to do Gods

    will.

During the trial of the ten plagues [i]n the beginning of the process,

Pharaoh was equally free to be generous or to be stubborn. Every time he

chose the option of stubbornness, however, he gave awaysome of his free

will. Each choice made it more likely that he would choose similarly the

next time, not to spare himself the embarrassment of admitting that he was

wrong and because he now had the self-image of a person who would notyield to Moses pleading7.

So as we study we see that Adam, or man is comprised of several

traits, and as we learn and submit to Gods Torah He begins to bring those

traits into balance with one another. The point of this is that although God

created Adam with free-will, we too just like Pharaoh can foolishly bind

ourselves, did you hear that? We, like Pharaoh when operating from a

mindset of self-sufficiency, or more appropriately should we say, seeking

sufficiency apart from including God, willfully choose to sacrifice their free-will. Its also the same voice in us that declares that Gods word is for that

guy over there, not meits the same mentality that justifies pointing out

the speck in my brothers eye, when I am hemorrhaging from an Oak trunk

protruding out of my eye socket for all to see. Allow me to share some

pivotal insights with you on Pharaoh from the Life Recovery Bible.

Egypts Pharaoh perfectly exemplified the persecutor-typepersonality. In Exodus 5:3-9 we watch him as he bulldozed the legitimate

boundaries of others to get his way. Then he failed to responded properly

when he was honestly confronted about the way he was treating the

Israelites. He became upset when Moses sought to set appropriate

boundaries. Instead of examining himself, Pharaoh then accused the

Israelites of being lazy and demanded even more of them. This kind of

person is tough to deal with, but God proves here that people like this are

no match for him. Moses warned Pharaoh of the final plaguethe death ofthe firstborn. It was this plague that finally caused Pharaoh to hit bottom

at least temporarily. It took this sever loss to get the attention of his hard

heart. Let us learn from Pharaohs mistakes and face our problems while

our losses are still recoverable. Continued denial can only lead to terrible

    suffering.8

Before we move forward allow me just to connect the dots full-circle

here. Weve discussed how we actually give up our free will when we elect to

push God out of our lives. Isnt it interesting that this is precisely whathappened in the Garden when Adam and Chava elected to entertain the

same seminal thought? That perhaps they themselves could discern better

than the one who created them whether it was wise or not to be partaking

from tree of the knowledge of good and evil ?

We saw it in the fall in the garden with Adam and Chava, we saw it

with Simeon and Levi when they defiled the holy outward symbol,

circumcision, of mans covenantal relationship with HaShemto administer

vengeance upon a nation, we saw it in Esau who despised his birthright;we saw it in the cruel Egyptian taskmasters that oppressed Israel to up the

production of bricks despite them no longer having access to readily

available straw, we saw it in Pharaohs ever-hardening heart with each visit

from Moshe and Aharon, and now we see it in the Israelites that rebelled

against their HOLY God who had just allowed them to experience the earth-

quaking sound of hearing His voice declare The 10 covenantal

    Commandmentstalk about a Monumental Let-Down.

The happy ending to this story is where our parasha picks up this

week. The Israelites were weighed and found wanting, their treacherous act

of betrayal was only one in what would become a long series of adulterous

affairs they would join themselves to, only to break their Husbands heart

again and again. Stiffnecked, a well-known agricultural term, refers to that

obstinate animal, UNWILLING to be lead in its masters yoke; when The

Living Torah came to dwell among men one of the very first things He said

    was

28"Come to me, all of you who are struggling and burdened, and I

will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I

am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For

my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Mat 11:28-30 CJB)

God understands His people. Were afraid to believe and trust enough

to fully commit to relationship, partly because our previous husband was a

tyrannical ruler, prone to fits of rage and violence. Just look at the divorce

rate across our country, look at the number of domestic abuse cases, look at

the number of children left stripped of their identity, broken and left to

question their value as a person in orphanages all across the world! Thats

why GOD has such a heart for the orphan and the widow when He says

27The religious observance that God the Father considers pure and

faultless is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress

Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: 2"Speak to the children of Israel,

that they bring Me an offering. From everyone who gives i t wi l l inglywith

his heartyou shall take My offering.(Exo 25:1-2 NKJ)

The Word used in Exodus 25:1 for Willing is from Strongs#5068

and is the word naw-dab; comprised of a Nun-Dalet-Bet we learn it

means to impel, to volunteer, to present spontaneously. It also means to

offer, an offering, Honor; The offering of something

    - with a willing heart as a sign of honor; to offer

something from a willing heart. Whats deeper

however is the pictographic interpretation of this

3-letter root word. Brad Scott offers several

teachings on the Hebrew language, most of which he explains

that Hebrew words are built oftentimes like houses; you have an outer wall

frame, and then something of critical significance in the middle of the

house. This word is a good case-in-point scenario.Lets observe. If we just take a look at the two-letter

root word nawb, comprised of the first and the last

letter, we have the nun & the bet. Taken together we

discover this word means To flourish, fruit, -

prophecy: The pictograph nun is a picture of a seed, the bet is

a picture of a tent or house representing what is inside. -

Combined these mean seed inside. A fruit hides the seeds inside it.Now,

when we examine the Dalet, which is the fourth letter of the Alef-Bet, it isdefined to mean to move, hang, enter, the door, open, path,

or way. So now, with the pictographic letters defined, we

see that to have a willing heart, or to give willingly to

HaShem, is to enter, open, or move oneself onto the path

of fruitfulness! Which confirms what we read in the Brit Chadasha, stating

16Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to

obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sinleading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?

17But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you

obeyed from the hear tthat form of doctrine to which you were

    delivered.

18And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of

    r ighteousness.

19I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For

just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and

of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your

members as slaves of r igh teousness for h ol iness.

20For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to

righteousness. 21What fruit did you have then in the things of which

you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

22But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves

of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.

    (Rom 6:16-22 NKJ)

When we give willingly, GOD can use us, period.

ronze- The word in Hebrew is nechsheth, Strongs#5178. Its 3-Letter root word is Nachash, a Nun, Chet, and a Shin. The 2-letter

root word Nawsh, comprised of the Nun and Shin means to loan,a debt or deception. The pictograph of the Nun is a picture of a

seed representing continuance, the shin is a picture of teeth

representing pressure. Combine these mean continual pressing.

An imposition such as a debt or deception which causes

oppression. Now add the Chet, which means a fence, outside, half,

to divide, to protectgives us a clearer symbolism of the bronze

which is that which continually presses us outside the fence of

Gods Torah, putting us outside His protectioni.e. sin. So what

did YHWHs blueprint prescribe? To construct the Bronze Altar!

The place where you brought your sin offerings. And also another

well-known furnishing was the Bronze Laver, where the priests

had to wash from daily every time they were preparing to approach

either the Bronze Altar, or to enter The Tabernacle.

Silver- Typically seen as a currency, silver maintains severalmeanings, usually revolving around redemption, as silver was

contributed to the Temple treasury, and during Jubilee, oftentimes

if a relative had the means, they could pay with silver to redeem

their relative that had become indentured to serve someone they

themselves were unable to pay back. The word comes from

Strongs#3701, or Keceph. Now, its 3-letter root word is Kah-sawf,

a Kaf, a Samech and a Fey. Its matching 2-letter root word is Kaf,

a Kaf and a Fey, and together they pictographically mean the open

palm, or any curved or hollowed out object. Not as close, but stillplaying a more intimate role than Bronze, we see silver being used

in the construction of the silver sockets that the planks were able

to safely be redeemed, meaning they were able to be stood up,

brought together and used to hold up the walls of the Tabernacle.

But, perhaps its still a bit unclear how to redeem these wooden

planks? The word for planks or board in Hebrew is Kresha kuf, resh and

a shin. Pictographically the 2-letter root word formed by combining the kuf

and the resh spells Kar; and it means to gather the men. The meeting or

bringing together of people or objects by arrangement, accident or

purchase. According to Rabbi Munk author of The Wisdom in the Hebrew

Alphabet, we read that the letter shin also stands for the Name Shalom,

which denotes peace and perfection. So, one interpretation can be

understood to mean that YHWH is gathering His men in peace, and

perfection. But we also know that the shin, which means again prophecies

of Gods plan established before Abraham, that after Israel had been

scattered, He would regather His people again, redeem, equip and use us to

rebuild the temple of David! Hallelu-YAH!

11"In that day I will raise up the fallen booth of David, And wall up its

breaches; I will also raise up its ruins, And rebuild it as in the days of old;(Amo 9:11 NAS)

old-When we first examine these raw materials we need toconsider where they are being placed, and as such sheds light upon

the fact that YHWH does recognize boundaries and different

spaces to be considered more holy than others. For instance, Gold

was found only in the Tabernacle. It was used to overlay both

inside and outside of the Ark, the Table of Shewbread, the Altar ofIncense, and the Menorah was a hammered work of solid gold.

Gold was used to represent the closest and most intimate space

one could obtain to HaShem. Interestingly, the Hebrew word for

Gold, or Zaw-hawb is spelled with a Zayin, a Heh and a Bet. The 2-

    letter root Hawb, the Heh and the Bet is the root word for Love;

the Zayin among other things means to plow, to harvest and to

pierce. If God is Love, and Yeshua, The Living Torah that was

pierced for our iniquities who is God in flesh, it was Him, the

symbolic type and shadow of the Gold that points us back to

Mashiach; because Love, was pierced, so that we could draw near

to God in The Most Holy Place.

And with blood almost all things are purified, according to the Torah, and

without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. (23) Thus it was

necessary for the copies of the things in the Heavens to be purified with

these, but the Heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

    (24) For the Messiah did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands, a

copy of the true one, but into Heaven itself, now to appear in the presence

    of God for us;

The Ark, or in Hebrew, the rn means an ark, or a chest, but it alsocan mean a coffin. So whats the difference? It depends on what youreputting in it right? Which makes sense, because if we are the Temple ofGod, and His covenant is to write His Torah upon our heart, then our heartis the Ark! Because where did the two tablets of testimony reside within theTabernacle?

    The Ark!

If we are going to be His living Tabernacle that He can reside in, thenwe must make sure that we are not allowing common profane things todefile our Aron. We must as His word says,

33"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these thingsshall be added to you. (Mat 6:33 NAS)And consider this, as His cohanim,

9But you are a chosen people, the King's cohanim, a holy nation, a peoplefor God to possess! Why? In order for you to declare the praises of the One

who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (1Pe 2:9 CJB)

Then if we are His royal priesthood then we too are created to carryHis glory upon our shoulders with the poles used to transport the Torah! Inthe Hebrew, the word for the rod overlaid in gold isBahd. Strongs#905 it means branch of a tree, barfor carrying. What else do we call the Torah Scroll?

The Etz Chaim! The Tree of Life, and the Scroll, if youve everseen one it comes with handles,

these are the branches that allow us tohandle the Word of God but His Way

    because Torah is Holy!

30"And you shall set the bread of the Presence on the table before Me at alltimes. (Exo 25:30 NAS)

In Alfred Edersheims book The Temple, its Ministry & Services we read,Ancient symbolism, both Jewish and Christian, regarded the bread of thePresence as an emblem of the Messiah. This view is substantially, thoughnot literally, correct. Jehovah, who dwelt in the Most Holy Place betweenthe Cherubim, was the God manifest and worshipped in the Holy Place. There the mediatorial ministry, in the name of, and representing Israel, laid before Him the bread of the Presence, kindled the seven-lampedcandlestick, and burnt incense on the golden altar. The bread laid beforeHim in the northern or most sacred part of the Holy Place was that of His

Presence, and meant that the covenant people owned His Presence as theirbread and their life; the candlestick, that He was their Lightgiver and Light;while between the table of showbread and the candlestick burned theincense on the golden altar to show that life and light are joined together, and come to us in fellowship with God and prayer (Edersheim, p.144).

In A Dwelling Place for God, Ruth Lascelle observes that bread isnourishing and life sustaining, and since there were twelve loaves of breadrepresenting the twelve tribes of Israel (those who were redeemed) we seethe truth taught here of Gods presence continually sustaining His lovedchildren throughout their wilderness journey (Jn.6:48-51). The Kings table

always abundantly supplied. 1 Cor. 10:21 The Lords Table denotes all thatwhich Christ has provided for believers by His death. The Table ofShewbread pointed 2 ways: backward to Exodus 16, the manna chapter, and forward to John 6, The Bread of Life chapter. The Lords table points 2

ways: backward to the Lords death and forward to He comes (Lascelle,p.50)

31"Then you shall make a lampstand of pure gold. The lampstand and itsbase and its shaft are to be made of hammered work; its cups, its bulbs

and its flowers shall be of one piece with it. (Exo 25:31 NAS)

27The human spirit is a lamp ofADONAI; it searches one's inmost being.(Pro 20:27 CJB)

The point I would like to address is that all of us have a menorah inour heart. And we also have the Bread of Life in us, who is Yeshua. Godspecifically tells us that the sons of Israel are to bring fresh oil for the

Menorah every morning to keep the lamp lit. If we are to live in the light ofYHWHs countenance

MayADONAI make his face shine on you and show you his favor.(Num 6:25 CJB)

Then it is our responsibility to bring in the oil, fresh and cold-pressed everyday. What that means is there is a cost! What that means is we must submitto His authoritywillingly to let His light search out any false way in us so

that we can maintain a Holy Miqdash unto Him so that He can residewithin us upon the Mercy Seat of the Ark of the covenant that abides in us!This should hearken us back again to the reason behind this entire TorahparashaGod wants to use US to build a sanctuary for HIM where He canreside with man!

20"You are to order the people of Isra'el to bring you pure oil of poundedolives for the light, and to keep a lamp burning continually.

21Aharon and his sons are to put it in the tent of meeting, outside thecurtain in front of the testimony, and keep it burning from evening until

morning beforeADONAI. This is to be a permanent regulation through allthe generations of the people of Isra'el. (Exo 27:20-21 CJB)

This is the life of service unto YHWH, but seeby serving Him, He takes upresidence in you! And you are then able to live in the presence of Adonai all

day long and be filled with His Glory!

"You are to make the altar of acacia-wood, seven-and-a-half feet long andseven-and-a-half feet wide- the altar is to be square and four-and-a-half

feet high.2Make horns for it on its four corners; the horns are to be of one piece withit; and you are to overlay it with bronze.

The altar was a touching point between divine and mortalIf it went on the altar, it was for YHWHIt is metaphorically, the table of YHWH

Anything touching the altar was sanctifiedThe fire on the altar was to burn perpetually

Only the priests and Levites were allowed past the altar

To make it into the courtyard, you have to have the proper heart!Psalms 100:15

Shout for joy to Adonai, all the earth!(2) Serve Adonai with gladness. Enter his presence

    with joyful songs.

    (3) Be aware that Adonai is God; it is he who madeus; and we are his, his people, the flock in hispasture.

    (4) Enter his gates with thanksgiving, enter hiscourtyards with praise; give thanks to him, and blesshis name.

    (5) For Adonai is good, his grace continues forever, and his faithfulness lasts through all generations.

25There was in Yerushalayim a man named Shim'on. This man was a

tzaddik, he was devout, he waited eagerly for God to comfort Isra'el, andthe Ruach HaKodesh was upon him.

26It had been revealed to him by the Ruach HaKodesh that he would notdie before he had seen the Messiah ofADONAI.

27Prompted by the Spirit, he went into the Temple courts; and when theparents brought in the child Yeshua to do for him what the Torah required,

28Shim'on took him in his arms, made a b'rakhah to God, and said,29"Now,ADONAI, according to your word, your servant is at peace as you

    let him go;30

for I have seen with my own eyes your yeshu'ah,31which you prepared in the presence of all peoples-32a light that will bring revelation to the Goyim and glory to your people

    Isra'el." (Luk 2:25-32 CJB)

33And His father and mother were amazed at the things which were beingsaid about Him.

34And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, "Behold, this

Child is appointed for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and for a sign to beopposed--

35and a sword will pierce even your own soul-- to the end that thoughtsfrom many hearts may be revealed."

    (Luk 2:33-35 NAS)

His Torah will reveal whats in our heart already, wont you allow Himto take your life, place it upon the altar and burn off all your sin and give

you beauty for ashes? But in order to do that we have to willingly come..and

Serve Him! Walking with Yeshua is a life of service26"If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there shall My

servant also be; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.(Joh 12:26 NAS)

and once we joyfully receive that, then He can begin the restorative workof indwelling us with His presence. Therefore, let us with a willing heart,

    bring Him our Terumah!
