ADJUSTMENTHINT:Since the centering bolt is used as the hood hinge and hoodlock set bolt, the hood and hood lock cannot be adjusted withit on. Substitute the bolt with the washer for the centering bolt.

1. ADJUST HOOD IN FORWARD/REARWARD AND VER-TICAL DIRECTIONS

Adjust the hood by loosening the hood side hinge bolts.Torque: 13 N·m (133 kgf·cm, 10 ft·lbf)

2. ADJUST FRONT EDGE OF HOOD IN VERTICALDIRECTION

Adjust the hood by turning the cushions.

3. ADJUST HOOD LOCK(a) Remove the 8 clips and radiator support upper seal.

HOOD SUPPORTREPLACEMENT1. REMOVE SUPPORT FROM HOODRemove the bolt and support from the hood.HINT:While supporting the hood with by hand, remove the hood.2. REMOVE SUPPORT FROM BODYRemove the bolt and support.

3. IF NECESSARY, REPLACE HOOD SUPPORTNOTICE:Handling the hood support� Do not disassemble the support because the cylinder

is filled with pressurized gas.

� If the support is to be replaced, drill a 2.0 - 3.0 mm(0.079 - 0.118 in.) hole in the area shown in the il-lustration to completely release the high-pressuregas before disposing of it.

� When drilling, chips may fly out so work carefully.� The gas is colorless, odorless and non-toxic.� When working, handle the support carefully. Never

score or scratch the exposed part of the piston rod,and allow any paint or oil to get on it.

� Do not turn the piston rod and cylinder with the sup-port fully extended.

4. INSTALL HOOD SUPPORT(a) Install the support with the bolt to the body.

Torque: 20 N·m (205 kgf·cm, 15 ft·lbf)(b) Install the support with the bolt to the hood.

Torque: 22 N·m (225 kgf·cm, 16 ft·lbf)

INSTALLATION1. BEFORE INSTALLING PARTS, COAT LOCK WITH MP

GREASEApply MP grease to the sliding surface of the lock.

2. INSTALL HOOD LOCK CONTROL CABLE(a) Push the rear side cable through the grommet.(b) Using a screwdriver, push the cable stopper into the

grommet.HINT:� Tape the screwdriver tip before use.� Do not damage the grommet with the screwdriver.

(c) Pass the front side cable through the upper radiator sup-port.

(d) Install the cable with clamps.3. INSTALL HOOD LOCK(a) Connect the hood lock control cable to the hood lock.(b) Install the hood lock with the 2 bolts and nut.

Torque: Bolt : 8.0 N·m (82 kgf·cm, 71 in.·lbf)Nut : 8.0 N·m (82 kgf·cm, 71 in.·lbf)

4. INSTALL RADIATOR SUPPORT UPPER SEALInstall the radiator support upper seal with the 8 clips.

the lower finish panel.(b) Install the lower finish panel with the 2 bolts.6. INSTALL FRONT FENDER LINER LHInstall the front fender liner LH with the 15 screws.7. INSTALL FRONT MUDGUARD LHInstall the front mudguard LH with the 4 screws.

3. ADJUST FRONT DOOR LOCK STRIKER(a) Check that the door fit and door lock linkages are adjusted

correctly.(b) Using a screwdriver, remove the striker cover.HINT:Tape the screwdriver tip before use.(c) Adjust the striker position by slightly loosening the striker

mounting screws, and hitting the striker with a hammer.(d) Tighten the striker mounting screws again.

Torque: 23 N·m (235 kgf·cm, 17 ft·lbf)(e) Install the striker cover.

Torque: 8.0 N·m (82 kgf·cm, 71 in.·lbf)(b) Connect the connector.10. INSTALL LOWER FRAME BRACKET GARNISH(a) Using a heat light, heat the door panel mounting surface

to 40 - 60 °C (104 - 140 °F).NOTICE:Do not heat the body excessively.(b) Remove the adhesive tape from the door panel.(c) Wipe off stains with cleaner.(d) If reusing the lower frame bracket garnish:

Clean the lower frame bracket garnish.(1) Using a heat light, heat the lower frame bracket gar-

nish to 20 - 30 °C (68 - 86 °F).NOTICE:Do not heat the lower frame bracket garnish excessively.

(2) Remove the adhesive tape from the garnish.(3) Wipe off stains with cleaner.

(4) Apply new adhesive tape to the lower frame bracketgarnish as shown in the illustration.

Tape Width: 5.0 mm (0.20 in.)(e) Using a brush, coat the contact surface on the door panel

with Primer M.NOTICE:� Let the primer coating dry for 3 minutes or more.� Do not coat to the adhesive.� Do not keep any of the opened Primer M for later use.

(f) Using a heat light, heat the door panel and garnish.Door Panel: 40 - 60 °C (104 - 140 °F)Garnish: 20 - 30 °C (68 - 86 °F)

NOTICE:Do not heat the garnish excessively.(g) Lift the adhesive tape release sheet from the face of gar-

nish.NOTICE:When the adhesive tape release sheet is removed, makesure that no dirt or dust can get onto the uncoated area.

NOTICE:Make sure that the garnish and door panel are heated to theproper temperature.(i) Install the clip.

11. INSTALL DOOR BELT MOULDINGInstall the door belt moulding as shown in the illustration.12. INSTALL SERVICE HOLE COVER(a) Install the service hole cover to the door panel.(b) Install the 2 grommets.HINT:When installing the service hole cover, pull out the cables andconnectors through the service hole cover.13. INSTALL SPEAKER(a) Install the speaker with the 3 screws.(b) Connect the connector.

14. INSTALL INSIDE HANDLEConnect the 2 cables, then install the inside handle with thescrew.HINT:� Check that the door lock knob moves securely to the

LOCK and UNLOCK positions when moving the door lockknob.

� When the knob doesn’t move to the LOCK and UNLOCKstop positions, move the locking cable installation posi-tion back and forth to adjust it.

15. INSTALL DOOR TRIM(a) Install the inner weatherstrip to the door trim.(b) Install the door trim with the 4 screws and 3 clips.(c) Connect the connector, then install the courtesy light to

(b) Connect the connector.4. INSTALL COWL LOUVERS(a) Install the cowl louvers with the 2 clips.(b) Install the weatherstrip to the cowl louvers.

5. INSTALL WIPER ARMS(a) Install the wiper arms and tighten the nuts by hand. Oper-

ate the wipers once and turn the wiper switch OFF.(b) Adjust the installation positions of the wiper arms to the

Disconnect the connector.(b) Push piano wire through between the body and glass

from the interior.(c) Tie both wire ends to wooden blocks or similar objects.HINT:Apply adhesive tape to the outer surface to keep the surfacefrom being scratched.

NOTICE:When separating the glass, take care not to damage thepaint, and exterior ornaments. To prevent scratching thesafety pad when removing the windshield, place a plasticsheet between the piano wire and safety pad.(d) Cut the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around it.(e) Remove the glass.NOTICE:Leave as much of the adhesive on the body as possiblewhen cutting off the glass.

(a) Using a brush or sponge, coat the edge of the glass andthe contact surface with Primer G as shown in the illustra-tion.

(b) When the primer is coated wrongly to the area other thanthe specified, wipe it off with a clean shop rag before theprimer dries.

NOTICE:� Let the primer coating dry for 3 minutes or more.� Do not keep any of the opened Primer G for later use.

HINT:Confirm that the dam is attached to the body panel as shownin the illustration.(d) Hold the windshield glass in place securely with a protec-

tive tape or equivalent until the adhesive hardens.NOTICE:Take care not to drive the vehicle during the time describedin the table on the following page.

A: 0.7 mm (0.028 in.)HINT:� Install the back window outside moulding from the center

not stretch it.

4. REMOVE SEAT WIRERemove the 6 seat wires from the seat cushion cover and seat-back cover.5. REMOVE SEAT HEATER(a) Seat cushion cover:

Cut the 34 tack pins which are fastened to the seat heater,then remove the seat heater.

(b) Seatback cover:Cut the 12 tack pins which are fastened to the seat heater,then remove the seat heater.

6. Seat cushion cover:INSTALL NEW SEAT HEATER

(a) Set a new seat heater.HINT:Face the marked side (part number) to the seat cushion cover.(b) For part A, position the seat heater by aligning the end of

the fin with the fold line of the listing pocket.(c) For part B, position the seat heater by aligning outline of

the fin with the seat cushion cover’s seam.(d) For part C, position the seat heater by aligning the fin with

the seat cushion cover’s seam.(e) Using a tacker, attach tack pins to the side of the seat

heater in the order from 1 to 12 and then attach the centerpart with tack pin.Tacker: BANZAI 303XT or equivalent

NOTICE:Do not substitute other metal part in place of tack pins.Insufficient distance between the heater and cover may re-sult in damage to the heater.HINT:� For mark a, align the fins of the seat heater against the

cover’s seam and attach them at the margin with a tackpins.

� For mark b, align the end of the fin with the fold line of thelisting pocket and attach them with a tack pins.

� Attach tack pins on the seam side so that the wire can bethreaded through the hole from the fold side.

� Sewing thread can be substituted for tack pins.However, allow a distance of 6 - 7 mm (0.24 - 0.28 in.)between both sewed parts of the heater and cover.




7. Seatback cover:INSTALL NEW SEAT HEATER

(a) Set a new seat heater.HINT:Face the marked side (part number) to the seat cushion cover.(b) For part A, position the seat heater by aligning the end of

the fin with the fold line of the listing pocket.(c) Using a tacker, attach the seat heater to the seat back

INSPECTIONCAUTION:Replace the seat belt assembly (outer belt, inner belt, boltsor nuts) if it has been used in a severe impact. The entireassembly should be replaced even if damage is not ob-vious.1. RUNNING TEST (IN SAFE AREA)(a) Fasten the front seat belts.

(b) Drive the car at 10 mph (16 km/h) and slam on the brakes.Check that the belt locks and cannot be extended at thistime.

HINT:Conduct this test in a safe area. If the belt does not lock, removethe belt mechanism assembly and conduct the following staticcheck. Also, whenever installing a new belt assembly, verify theproper operation before installation.2. Driver’s seat belt (ELR):

CAUTION:� Never dispose of front seat outer belt which has an in-

activated pretensioner.� The seat belt pretensioner produces a sizeable ex-

ploding sound when it activates, so perform the op-eration out-of-door and where it will not create a nui-sance to nearby residents.

(e) Dispose of front seat outer belt (with seat belt pretension-er).

CAUTION:� The front seat outer belt is very hot when the seat belt

pretensioner is activated, so leave it alone for at least30 minutes after activation.

� Use gloves and safety glasses when handling a frontseat outer belt with activated seat belt pretensioner.


� Do not apply water, etc. to a front seat outer belt withactivated seat belt pretensioner.(1) Remove the disc wheel and SST.(2) Place the front seat outer belt in a vinyl bag, tie the

end tightly and dispose of it in the same way as oth-er general parts dispose.

REPLACEMENTREPLACE REQUIREMENTSIn the following cases, replace the seat belt pretensioner.

� If the seat belt pretensioner has been activated.� If the seat belt pretensioner has been found to be faulty in troubleshooting.� If the front seat outer belt has been found to be faulty during the check in items 1-(b) or 2-(b).� If the front seat outer belt has been dropped.

CAUTION:For removal and installation of the seat belt pretensioner, see page BO-186 and BO-194 .Be sure to follow the correct procedure.

INSTALLATIONNOTICE:Never use seat belt pretensioner from another vehicle.When replacing parts, replace them with new parts.� Make sure that the front seat outer belt is installed

with the specified torque.� If the front seat outer belt has been dropped, or there

are cracks, dents or other defects in the case or con-nector, replace the front seat outer belt with a newone.

� When installing the front seat outer belt, take care thatthe wiring does not interfere with other parts and isnot pinched between other parts.

1. INSTALL FRONT SEAT OUTER BELT(a) Install the retractor with the 2 bolts.

Torque:Upper bolt: 7.5 N·m (76 kgf·cm, 66 in.·lbf)Lower bolt: 42 N·m (430 kgf·cm, 31 ft·lbf)

(b) Install the shoulder anchor with the bolt.Torque: 42 N·m (430 kgf·cm, 31 ft·lbf)

(c) Install the shoulder anchor cap.(d) Install the floor anchor with the bort.

Torque: 42 N·m (430 kgf·cm, 31 ft·lbf)(e) Install the floor anchor cover.

(f) Connect the pretensioner connector as shown in the il-lustration.

NOTICE:When connecting pretensioner connecter to the front seatouter belt assembly; set the locking button of the connec-tor into the lock condition.(g) Connect the tension reducer connector.2. REMOVALREMOVE REAR SPOILER(a) Remove the 2 hole plugs.(b) Remove the 2 bolts.(c) Apply protective tape to the body.(d) Using a heat light, heat the rear spoiler to 40 - 60 °C (104

- 140 °F).NOTICE:Do not heat spoiler excessively.

(e) Tie both piano wire ends to wooden blocks or similar ob-jects.

(f) Cut the adhesive tape by pulling the piano wire as shownin the illustration.

NOTICE:� If reusing the spoiler, take care not to damage the rear

spoiler.� Do not damage the body.

(g) Disengage the 2 clips and remove the rear spoiler.

- 60 °C (104 - 140 °F).NOTICE:Do not heat the body excessively.(b) Remove the side protector from the body.(c) Wipe off stains with cleaner.2. CLEAN REAR SPOILERIf reusing rear spoiler:(a) Using a heat light, heat the rear spoiler to 20 - 30 °C (68

- 86 °F).NOTICE:Do not heat the rear spoiler excessively.(b) Remove the side protector from the rear spoiler.(c) Wipe off stains with cleaner.

3. INSTALL REAR SPOILER(a) Apply new side protector to the rear spoiler as shown in

the illustration.

(b) Using a heat light, heat the body and rear spoiler.Body: 40 - 60 °C (104 - 140 °F)Rear spoiler: 20 - 30 °C (68 - 86 °F)

NOTICE:Do not heat the body and rear spoiler excessively.(c) Install the rear spoiler with 2 bolts and 2 hole covers.
