REVEREND GREGORY J. SEMENIUK, C.M.
NEW VICAR
FOR CULTURAL MINISTRIES Serving and promoting unity and cultural diversity
in the Church
On February 29, 2016, Reverend Gregory J. Semeniuk,
C.M. will begin service as Vicar for Cultural Ministries in
the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The Vicar for Multicul-
tural Ministries represents Archbishop Charles J. Chaput,
O.F.M. Cap. to the various cultural and ethnic Catholic
communities in the five-county Archdiocese of Philadelph-
ia. He succeeds Reverend Bruce Lewandowski, C.SS.R.,
who held the post from June 2011 to December 2015. Until
being assigned to other duties by the provincial of his or-
der, the Redemptorist Fathers.
Father Semeniuk studied for the priesthood with the East-
ern Province of the Congregation of the Mission, common-
ly known as the Vincentian
Fathers. Following ordi-
nation in 1989, he served
as Director of Students at
Saint Joseph’s Preparato-
ry Seminary in Princeton,
New Jersey. Beginning in
1993, he along with an-
other Vincentian priest,
began a bilingual evange-
lization ministry with an
emphasis on Hispanic
Catholics living on Long
Island, New York.
In 2003, he was charged with opening a house of discern-
ment for Hispanic candidates to the Vincentian Order. In
2004, he began doctoral studies in systematic theology at
Weston Jesuit School of Theology at Boston College
School of Theology and Ministry. In May 2014, he defend-
ed his dissertation on the soteriology of Hans Urs von Bal-
thasar. From August 2011 to August 2015, he served as
Dean of Student and a faculty member at Saint John’s
Seminary, Camarillo, California. Presently, he is the su-
perior of the Vincentian Theologate in Philadelphia.
The Vicar for Cultural Ministries oversees the pastoral
and administrative work undertaken by the Archdiocesan
Offices for Hispanic Catholics, Black Catholics, and Pas-
toral Care for Migrants and Refugees. Additionally, this
Vicar also ensures that pastors charged with ministry to
various cultural and ethnic groups have the resources
needed to do so effectively. Presently, there are 36 sites
for Hispanic ministry, 15 for black Catholics, and 40 other
multicultural ministries in the Archdiocese.

El 29 de febrero del 2016, el reverendo Gregory J. Seme-
niuk, C.M. comenzará su servicio como Vicario para Mi-
nisterios Culturales en la Arquidiócesis de Filadelfia. El
Vicario para Ministerios Culturales representa al arzobispo
Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. en las diversas comunida-
des católicas culturales y étnicas en los cinco condados de
la Arquidiócesis de Filadelfia. Sucede al reverendo Bruce
Lewandowski, C.Ss.R., quien ocupó ese cargo desde junio
del 2011 a diciembre del 2015, hasta ser asignado a otras
funciones por el provincial de su orden, la Congregación
de los Redentoristas.
El padre Semeniuk estudió para el sacerdocio con la Pro-
vincia del Este de la Congregación de la Misión, común-
mente conocida como los Padres Vicentinos. Después de
su ordenación en 1989, se desempeñó como director de
estudiantes en Saint Joseph Preparatory Seminary
(Seminario Preparatorio San José) en Princeton, Nueva
Jersey. A partir de 1993, junto con otro sacerdote vicen-
tino, comenzó un ministerio de evangelización bilingüe
con énfasis en los católicos hispanos que viven en Long
Island, Nueva York.
En el 2003, fue encargado de abrir una casa de discerni-
miento para los candidatos hispanos a la Orden Vicentina.
En el 2004, comenzó estudios de doctorado en teología
sistemática en Weston Jesuit School of Teology
(Universidad Weston de Estudios Teológicos) en Boston
College School of Theology and Ministry (Universidad de
Boston, Escuela de Teología y Ministerio). En mayo del
2014, defendió su tesis doctoral en la soteriología de Hans
Urs von Balthasar. Desde agosto del 2011 hasta agosto del
2015, se desempeñó como decano de estudiantes y miem-
bro de la facultad en Saint John’s Seminary, Camarillo,
California (Seminario San Juan, Camarillo, California).
Actualmente, es el superior del Vincentian Theologate
(Teologado Vicentino) en Filadelfia.
El Vicario para Ministerios Culturales supervisa el trabajo
pastoral y administrativo llevado a cabo por la Oficina para
Católicos Hispanos, la Oficina para Católicos Negros y la
Oficina para el Cuidado Pastoral de Migrantes y Refugia-
dos, de la Arquidiócesis. Además, este vicario también
asegura que los párrocos encargados del ministerio a diver-
sos grupos culturales y étnicos tienen los recursos necesa-
rios para hacerlo con eficacia. En la actualidad, hay 36 pa-
rroquias con ministerio para los hispanos, 15 para los cató-
licos negros, y otros 40 ministerios multiculturales en la
Arquidiócesis.
