!! VOLUNTEER NEEDED TO PUBLISH THE NEWSLETTER !!

After four years of publishing the village newsletter, Ann feels it is time that she stepped down, so a new volunteer is needed - he or she will need to be proficient in desktop publishing.

Since the filling of this vacancy is necessary for the on-going production of the newsletter, if no-one is found, it is likely that the newsletter will cease to be produced.

I’m sure you will all wish to join us in thanking Ann for her hard work over

the last four years. Ann has said that she hopes a new publisher will bring

fresh ideas to liven up this publication which is enjoyed by many villagers

who do not have access to the internet or any of the media groups.

If you are able to help, please contact Chris or Gill

Please offer your help to ensure that this newsletter continues ….

Open Village 17th June 2017

We’re organising another major fund-raising event for the new Church Hall on 17th June next year.

The Open Village will be similar to Open Gardens but with added attractions, in-cluding the Church Tower.

We’ve already got a number of people offering to open their garden on the day. Could you do the same? It doesn’t have to be National Trust size or standard - although those would be welcome! Smaller gardens are also of great interest to people.

There will also be other attractions on offer, e.g. models, aircraft, honey, play area for children etc so if anyone else has a talent or something they could do, show or share we would love to hear from them.

If you would like to join in - either by opening your garden or doing duty at the Church Tower or serving teas at the Pavilion, please contact

either Beverley Thompson ([email protected] or phone 01908 372192) Mary Preen ([email protected]) or

Sue Malleson ([email protected])

CHURCH HALL DROP-IN : WEDNESDAY 12TH OCTOBER

The church hall is open on the second Wednesday of the month for anyone

to drop in during the afternoon for the chance to meet up with others and

enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a chat. The October get together is on Wednesday

12th anytime between 2.30pm and 4.30pm.

Thought for the Month : Ecclesiastes Chapter 3, verses 3 – 8

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

a time to be born, and a time to die;

a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;

a time to kill, and a time to heal;

a time to break down, and a time to build up;

a time to weep, and a time to laugh;

a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;

a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

a time to seek, and a time to lose;

a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

a time to tear, and a time to sew;

a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

a time to love, and a time to hate;

a time for war, and a time for peace.

CHURCH OPEN 16th OCTOBER

On the third Sunday of each month, when there is no Sunday service, the church is open from 10am to 11am for anyone who wishes to get away from the noise and

hustle of everyday life and spend some time in peace and quiet.

You are welcome to come at anytime during the hour for as little or as long as you like and experience the tranquillity of your parish church

Annual Canvass of the Electoral Register

Household Enquiry Forms have been delivered to every

property in Milton Keynes

We are required to do this every year by law so that we can ensure an accurate register is

published on 1 December.

The forms have pre-printed on them the information we currently have for the address.

Households must respond to the form even if there are no changes to the details. If the

there are no changes then you can respond by internet, telephone or text (details are on the

form) or sign and return the form in the pre-paid envelope. If you need to make changes

then you can respond by internet or by completing and returning the form.

Internet: www.householdresponse.com/miltonkeynes Telephone: 0800 197 9871 Text: 80212

If a new person needs to be added to the register they will also need to

complete an individual form to complete their registration. This can be

done on-line at gov.uk/register-to-vote or a form will automatically be

sent to them to complete.

Please respond as soon as possible to avoid having a reminder form sent to you.

You can’t vote if you are not on the Electoral Register.

MK Heritage Church Open Day

On Sunday September 11th 147 visitors came to the church as part

of the MK Heritage Open Days and around 120 of them climbed the

tower to enjoy some magnificent views on a lovely sunny day.

All the visitor feedback forms reported a very enjoyable visit and

included many positive comments – friendly welcome, could feel

community spirit, lovely well maintained church, great tower views, yummy cakes!

£260 was raised for church funds from donations and the sale of refreshments. A

big thank you to all who came along to support the event and special thanks to

those who manned the tower, served refreshments and made delicious cakes.

The harvest supper will take place at 7pm in the church hall on Saturday 8th October

The evening is a bring and share event, so please come along with something to share and bring your own drinks.

There is no ticket fee for this event - the idea is that we all bring our food to share instead. This year’s designated charity is the Church Urban Fund’s "Mustard Seed Appeal”, raising money to help millions of people in England who are struggling with debt and money problems. All proceeds will go to that charity.

Hammond Gravestone

For those who do not regularly receive the Citizen, this is a rewriting of John Tay-lor’s column of a couple of weeks ago:

“The gravestones (which are now almost illegible) apparently recorded

2 Hammonds as having died at the ages of 134 and 139. This story was

widely reported in the local press – however it was discovered that the

stones had been defaced and the “d” in `aged’ altered to a 1, to change

their respective ages from 34 and 39!”

Bow Brickhill History Society presents

HEALTH & BEAUTY EVENING

Please come and join us at the Pavilion in Rushmere Close We meet at 7.30 p.m.

Advance Request for bric-a-brac for the Church Bazaar

on Saturday 19 November

Once again we will be holding the popular bric-a-brac stall at the Bazaar but this year, due to the loss of our storage facility, could we ask that you

only donate good quality items. This will not only help with storage logistics but also the frantic and exhausting job of setting up and clearing away the stall. This year we are going for quality not quantity to suit our discerning clientele.

As in past years we are not able to accept clothes, furniture or large items. To con-tribute contact Wendie Mills at [email protected] or phone her on 01908 374745 Thank you

BOW BRICKHILL RAINBOWS

It is with sadness that the Bow Brickhill Rainbow unit closed in July this year.

Whilst many parents offered to attend the sessions to help I was unable to continue to run and manage the group on my own.

The Rainbows all had a lot of fun and I would like to thank them all for making the sessions a pleasure to be at. I would also like to thank the Brownie Leaders for their support and encouragement, the Parish Council for their grants and the Parish Church for letting us use the Hall. Clare Evans

Community Parking Partnership Scheme - Milton Keynes Council

At the September Parish Council meeting the above scheme was on the agenda for discussion. The scheme asks Parish Councils to submit a pre application for consid-eration where they can identify a local need. The Parish Council therefore are to submit a pre application requesting the car park located on Parkway be considered for funding.

The request would be to refurbish this car park so that it is more useable for resi-dents and visitors to the village to help alleviate current parking issues. If anyone has any objection to this application being submitted please do advise the Parish Clerk accordingly - [email protected].
