LOCAL DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
Brasov is currently redefining its economic profile by orienting its efforts towards tourism & services as well as toward innovative high added value industries (IT, energy efficiency, aero spatial industries). Presently, Brasov is one of 7 national growth poles where national and European funding are earmarked for sustainable regional development projects.
8
SOCIETAL CHANGE & CHALLENGES
Traffic congestion (high car ownership levels, metropolitan
commuting, low levels of public transport usage)
Environmental challenges (high levels of traffic generated pollution,
low energy efficiency in buildings generating additional fossil fuel consumption)
Social challenges (new technologies available to the general public vs
actual low usage of technology in every day life)
Need for efficiency in the urban fabric management and development ( an urgent need for the public administration to
switch to ACTING instead of REACTING in every facet of urban development)

The Brasov Metropolitan Agency acts as a multiplier of good practices as it provides support and shares its expertise and knowledge to an entire metropolitan region.

• This strategy is developed within a partnership framework involving citizens, local businesses, NGO’s, public bodies etc.
• “Smart Metropolis” can be implemented by developing an integrated ICT infrastructure with the inclusion of the existing independent systems
