Job Description Job title Senior Manager, Economics Team Strategy & Economics Band Senior Manager Reporting to Director, Market Analysis Management responsibility Purpose of the job The Senior Manager, Economics plays a leading role in providing the economic support necessary for Business Bank activities. This will involve market analysis to identify problems and gaps in the market, working in close collaboration with the strategy team to appraise options for new Business Bank activities and engaging with product teams to evaluate existing activity. Main duties 1. Conduct high quality economic analysis of the supply of finance to smaller businesses, with a focus on using economic theory and market data to identify where market failures result in sub-optimal outcomes. 2. Produce economic business cases demonstrating the value for money of new product propositions in collaboration with business development, functional and business unit colleagues, as well as external delivery partners 3. Lead externally commissioned evaluation of the value for money delivered by Business Bank activities, working closely with the product teams. 4. Commissioning of market and customer survey work and other research in a cost effective, with resulting improvement in the available evidence on the use of finance by small businesses in a cost-effective way 5. Produce market analysis to a high standard, with outputs suitable for publication by the Business Bank. 6. General team based structured problem solving, presentation preparation in both Powerpoint and Word, and internal / external stakeholder management. Use econometric or statistical packages. Knowledge and experience 1. A good understanding of microeconomics. Several years of experience in applying economics to public policy and communicating results clearly in a policy environment. Of particular value is interest and experience in the economics of market failure applied to support for business growth. 2. Knowledge of business case and evaluation methodologies used to assess the impact and vfm of public policy interventions. Purpose of the job

The Senior Manager, Economics plays a leading role in providing the economic support necessary for Business Bank activities. Key competencies/behaviours

1. Delivering - Experience in both leading internally run economic analysis projects and managing externally commissioned market and customer research, which result in a quality analytical service to the Business Bank. Effective in identifying cost effective delivery approach to providing this service

2. Commercially minded – Experience in identifying most appropriate evidence to deliver structured, convincing and concise analysis. The jobholder would demonstrate rigorous economic skills combined with commercial sense and awareness of constraints of operating in a public policy environment to produce evidence based recommendations.

3. Connecting – Ability to work across disciplines within the Bank, government officials and external stakeholders. Experience in building productive working relationships quickly, and use these to manage projects or work-streams effectively.
