Wall of Pride Start as Low as $45 Want to see your name in lights!?! Well, maybe the closest thing you can get is your
name permanently displayed on the Wolverine Wall of Pride! The Wall of Pride is the
brick wall at the entrance of Clear Brook. It commemorates successful students and
events over the years and sometimes serves as a memorial.
Project Grad 2011 is selling commemorative bricks which make a great graduation
present or mark a special event or occasion in your student‟s year. The bricks are small
enough to include a saying with one student‟s name and a logo, and large enough for a
list of students and four logos. The prices start as low as $45. The Wolverine and Dia-
mond B logos are available but are not shown on the page of logos.
We will be selling bricks throughout the year. The deadline April 29, 2011. If you are
interested in purchasing a brick, please make your checks payable to CBHS Project
Graduation 2011. Fill out the attached form on page 14 and mail it to Mary Faller, Atten-
tion: Brick Orders, 14422 Redbud Valley Trail, Houston, TX 77062. If you supply your
e-mail address, I will send you an e-mail receipt. Feel free to contact me if you have
any questions at [email protected] or 713-829-4851.

New Grading System for CCISD The CCISD Board approved a new letter grade range scale on De-
cember 10, 2010. The adoption of this new letter grade scale re-
moves the "D" and expands the "C" to a grade range scale of 70 -
79. This change is reflected in the legend on this progress report
and will not impact grade point values at the high school level.
Reasons to support the change will positively impact our students
as they are competing nationally for scholarships opportunities,
college applications, and NCAA eligibility requirements.

2010 -2011 Advanced Placement Information
Brook students will soon have an opportunity to earn college credits by taking Advanced Placement exams. The AP tests will be given
during the weeks of May 2 – May 13, 2011. The cost is $57 per test, but students who receive free/reduced lunch may receive a fee waiver
that covers all but $9 of the exam fee. AP tests are scored on a scale of 1 - 5, with scores of 3 or higher usually earning three hours of col-
lege credit. A score of a 3 or higher also counts as one measure towards the Distinguished Achievement Plan for graduation. Advanced
Placement exams will be administered at Clear Brook in either the New Gym or the library, depending upon the size of the testing group.
The schedule for Advanced Placement testing is as follows:
AM PM
Advanced Placement exams help students: gain an edge in college preparation; cut costs of college expenses; stand out in the college ap-
plication process, and broaden intellectual horizons!
Students who wish to take Advanced Placement exams should pick up a registration packet from any AP teacher or the Counseling Cen-
ter, and return it with check or money order to the Counseling Center by March 25, 2011.

Clear Brook Rolls In State Bowling Playoffs March 26-27, 2011
Going to the state bowling playoffs has developed into a tradition at Clear Brook High School. The Wolverine bowling team has been
represented every year since its‟ inception five years ago. This year featured the Lady Wolverines, and their star anchor bowler Ashley Law-
ley in the state Team and Singles Championships held in Euless, Texas.
The post-season girls‟ team was comprised of senior Ashley Lawley, sophomore Amy Lu, senior Vikki Garces, junior Erin Prejean, and
freshman Jordan Hoskins. The alternates were junior Mariana Perez-Lozano and senior Leiann Stewart. The Lady Wolverines were battle
tested after finishing the regular season 12-2 as the district runner-up champions, then finishing third at the regional tournament. Coach
Karen McDaniel knew her squad would be a formidable opponent during the team state championships.
The playoffs consist of the top 36 teams in the state competing for the team title. The five-player teams bowled three qualifying games
with the top 16 teams, based on total pinfall, advancing to the best-of-three match-play bracket. The Lady Wolverines started the qualifying
round in strong fashion with a 735 game, beating their season average by nearly 75 pins. The girls‟ varsity improved their second game,
rolling a 761 game with strong, above average games from Erin, Vikki and Mariana. This placed the Lady Wolverines just 25 pins behind
the Jersey Village Falcons for the 16th spot, with one game to go. In the third game, Leiann gave the team a boost with an early double.
However, bowlers started to tire out midway in the game and lose their focus. Despite a superb 235 game from Ashley and three strikes in
the 10th frame from Amy, the team was unable to advance to match play, missing the cut by 74 pins. The Lady Wolverines ended up 19th in
the state, up from 25th last year.
Region IX state qualifier Ashley Lawley experienced both the highs and the lows of the playoffs. Ashley struggled during the singles
championships, averaging 12 pins below her regional average. She then rebounded in the team championships by bowling a 611 series, 131
pins above her regional series. Ashley hopes to take that tenacity with her to the collegiate ranks this fall, as a member of the Stephen F.
Austin State University bowling team in Nacogdoches, Texas.
With returning starter Amy Lu, who has the district‟s second highest average, along with Erin Prejean, Jordan Hoskins, and Mariana Perez-
Lozano, coach McDaniel is excited about next season. While the Lady Wolverines are not currently considered a favorite at the 2012 state
tournament, she‟s not counting them out. And neither should the rest of the field.

The courses are limited to the first 30 students who enroll in each session.
This course does not guarantee a high SAT score. If students actively participate in the course and utilize the techniques given, their individual
potential is maximized. As always, the best way to prepare for the SAT is to take challenging high school courses, read extensively, and write as
often as possible.
