pavement is seen as very dirty, dark, and gritty which gives the audience a sense of the mise‐en‐scene being located within the Britain origin. The man in the black hood is denoted holding a gun pointing towards a innocent couple walking down the pavement. This combines within the mise‐en‐scene with the darkness of the situation occurringoccurring. The camera work uses a mid‐shot on the characters. This helps the audience to focus more on the top half of the male character and his strong actions towards two innocent people. This causes him to have a more violence dark image about himself as we witness him on the screenscreen.

sat amongst the floor. This could connote he may be having personal working class problems or, he may just be awaiting for someone. Since the lighting is used naturally as dark lighting, welighting is used naturally as dark lighting, we establish that something bad may occur. Supporting this would be the fact that both the characters in the shot are wearing black hoods hi h ld b i d k li h h iwhich could bring a dark light to their 

representation. Especially since, we are unable to view their faces in this shot, it creates a sense of mystery for the audience on what facial y yexpressions they may be expressing under their hoods reflecting upon their actions that they are aiming to act upon.

Within this screen grab, we are able to focus strongly on the mise‐en‐scene of the house/building. Due to the fact we are able t i l i h i ff th llto view loose wires hanging off the wall, dried  boring paint used on every wall, it connotes to us that it is of a working class environment claiming that the characters gwho live here are not able to afford much; therefore lives in a negative atmospheric location. Al i thi it th liAlso, in this scene, we witness the police within the building looking to arrest the characters within the film which connotes to us that the characters within the film are up pto no good; this of which is quite a common theme to used in a BSR genre for this film. We also denote in the slight left of the centre of the screen someone's hand being heldof the screen someone's hand being held out. This connotes that whomever's hand this belongs to, they are raising their hand in the order of the polices orders due to police p phaving weapons within their  keeping.

Camera

This Over the soldier shot denotes a male teacher standing within a classroom in front of a window with a negative emotion expressed across his face. This connotes that he is some sort of angry emotion towardsScreen grab 1 some sort of angry emotion towards his student which is quite a common thing for a teacher to react as such due to his/her students behaving in

a unwell matter. This shot last for a very long while. This causes the scene to become more serious due to the camera work not reallyto the camera work not really making much progress in the 20‐30 seconds which this over the soldier shot is shot for.

h h d fSince the teacher is standing in front of the window, in a way, we can connote that he is blocking the light that enters the room. The lightthat enters the room. The light which he causes to not enter the room could reflect upon the students and their struggled lives in i iBritain.

Within this screen grab, the camera uses a mid‐shot upon the teacher and the little male student The camera could havemale student. The camera could have done this deliberately to connote a overpower due to a adult figure being compared to the smaller male child. Screen grab 2Although the background mise‐en‐scene is slightly blurred, we as audience are still able to denote and recognise a British environment/area Also the weather inenvironment/area. Also, the weather in the shot is denoted as white clouds which is a very stereotypical element to be witnessing in a British social realist film. Whilst the two characters are in the centre of the screen, it gives it more of a effect to the focus of what is happening. The boy is denoted with his hands held on his waistdenoted with his hands held on his waist and his head facing down connoting that he is feeling guilty or upset about something that may have happened. The body language conducted by the adult is also very effective of this mid shot due to him leaning over the boy effectively which gives a sense of concern that he may begives a sense of concern that he may be feeling for the boy or is just maybe the cause for his negative emotions.

Screen grab 3 In this screen grab, we are able to denote a long shot revealing the mise‐en scene which the film is based Afteren‐scene which the film is based. After looking upon the dull weather a pale colours of green grass and other elements, we immediately are familiar with it as Britain citizens and connote that the film is of a British social realist aspect when watched. Due to this long shot being done we are given theshot being done, we are given the image of lots of students wearing their uniform. With this in thought, we are able to connote that the mise‐en‐scene in within a school environment. Within this long shot, it also reveals the floor. On the floor, we can denote wet puddles which goes back to thewet puddles which goes back to the idea of Britain having a strong expected idea for bad weather.

With the editing in this scene, they use a shot‐reverse ‐shot to reveal the expressions and emotions held within the characters faces. As they follow through th i ti thi h t h t l h ttheir conversation, this shot, reverse shot reveals what the female character says, followed by the males reaction to laugh which then follows by the females reaction to him laughing. This helps to denote the g g prelationship and chemistry occurring between the two as this scene and conversation continues and gives a positive side to their friend‐like relationship with one

Within this screen a long take of aWithin this screen a long take of a man’s journey towards a hair dressing store is denoted. This causes the beginning of the scene to have more continuity and causes it to flow more whilst being watched by its viewers in the audience. The background mise‐en‐scene follows behind the man with hisscene follows behind the man with his movement towards the store and we are able to denote gritty dried up paint and unhinged doors off of buildings. h h bThis causes the environment to be very unvarnished which is a very well known characteristic for a typical British social realist film.realist film. 

Within this screen grab, a very short take is acted upon. This shot here lasts for one second of the scene so that basically tends to come around as a 1 second flash of the women characters image Also what makeswomen characters image. Also what makes this very effective as a flash is that the light coming through the window behind the female character could connote around her presence in the store and her representation as a person in the film. Also, due to her head facing down, we are notified she is focused upon the cutting ofnotified she is focused upon the cutting of the mans hair; however, she may be feeling some negative/positive emotions that she may be thinking about whilst her head is faced towards the ground.
