Reliant Park is Granted Approval for Name Change to NRG Park
HOUSTON (March 21, 2014) — SMG-managed Reliant Park is pleased to announce the authorization from the Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation (HCSCC) Board for the rebranding of Reliant Park and its related facilities, Reliant Stadium, Reliant Center, Reliant Arena and Reliant Astrodome, to NRG Park and NRG Stadium, NRG Center, NRG Arena and NRG Astrodome, respectively.
“We have enjoyed a great relationship with Reliant over many years, and we are excited to partner with Reliant’s parent company NRG Energy, Inc., on what’s next—NRG Park,” said Mark Miller, general manager of Reliant Park. “The name will change but the quality of the superior “park” experience will only get better.”
Since 2009, Reliant has been part of the NRG family and has helped to provide more options, resources and innovative products to Houston customers. The investment in NRG Park is a reflection of NRG Energy’s commitment to bring the latest in innovative energy solutions to Houston.
“Reliant has faithfully served Houston over the last 15 years, and it will continue to support the com-munity through sponsorships of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ and the Houston Texans, among other community events and organizations,” said Elizabeth Killinger, President of NRG Texas Retail and Reliant. “Reliant is strengthened by NRG as its parent company, and we look forward to con-tinuing to serve as Houston’s trusted retail electricity provider and bringing new NRG products and services to market here in Houston and nationwide.”
Integration of the name change is expected to be fully complete before the start of the Houston Tex-ans’ 2014-2015 season. The name change is solely funded by NRG Energy, Inc. and will not impact any Reliant customers or Houston constituents.
