In the last year the Mandurah office has grown from servicing 50 clients to around 2090 clients. IN THIS ISSUE
In July 2014 our already hugely successful Job Services Australia contract was further extended in the Peel and Dale region.
Jane McWhirter, BTG’s Manager of Employment Services, said that this additional business has meant a huge opportunity for local job seekers as we ourselves have employed an entirely new team of 14 staff to dedicate to clients at the Mandurah branch office. This increase in size, the number of staff, the value we can add to the community and the strength of our organisation highlights our dedicated service to job seekers and employers over 30 years.
As part of our ongoing commitment to the Peel and Dale region we have now also introduced the services of an Employee Liaison Officer. This innovative new position is designed to service the needs of employers and to provide employers with candidates who have been prepared for their industry, and more specifically tailored to suit their company culture and broader organisational values. The Employer Liaison is able to deliver best outcomes to employers by promoting the use of local workforce talent to service their recruitment needs.
Supported by the large new team at Mandurah office we are finding that local jobs are reaching the local workforce talent that they were intended for, saving companies time, money and resources by attending to all their recruitment needs..
Bridging the Gap Mandurah has been entrusted with this new extended Job Services Australia contract to provide industry employers with motivated and enthusiastic, well prepared employees.
Mandurah region is a real growth area and we are now investing even more resources into our training courses being delivered from our dedicated training site in Mandurah. With more focus on training courses to deliver hands-on skills, we are future proofing our job seekers and delivering high calibre staff to local businesses.

A new partnership between Bridging the
Gap and CSBP will assist two local
Aboriginal men gain on-the-job
experience as they complete their
traineeships at Ngulla Training and
Community Centre.
Sydney Hart and Michael Abdullah
commenced a one year traineeship at
Ngulla in July this year, and are working
towards achieving a Certificate II in
Conservation & Land Management.
Ngulla is a dedicated learning facility
auspiced through BTG’s Registered
Training Organisation (RTO).
An integral part of the traineeship is
being provided by local Kwinana
manufacturer, CSBP in the form of work
experience.
Peter Bird, Manager at Ngulla, said “So
far the guys have been great. They have
already learned about plant care,
landscape assessment, site plans and
what it means to work fulltime.”
“We’re hoping that this will be an
ongoing aboriginal traineeship
programme with a major employer in
the Kwinana Industrial Area”, Peter
added.
Wesfarmers CSBP Aboriginal
Development Consultant, Noelene
Mantellato, said the partnership had
created a meaningful opportunity.
“One of the issues identified by the
Kwinana Aboriginal community is that
there are few jobs or traineeships for the
local Aboriginal young people,” she said.
“In response, we’ve worked hard to
establish a partnership with Ngulla and
Bridging the Gap to create these
traineeships.”
Upon completion of the traineeship,
both Bridging the Gap and CSBP will
provide ongoing support to the trainees
as they seek full time employment.
On 20 August Bridging the Gap’s Academy for Community Employment celebrated a year of helping employers with their recruitment needs.

By creating better futures through local solutions, businesses have started to source employees from our local talent pool.
“And With over 75% success rate, I’m really proud of our candidates.”

Green Army Marches Out Of Town Our local environment is about to improve.
Supported by the Australian Government’s Green Army
Programme and national service provider Job Futures,
Bridging the Gap is preparing to run two projects to restore
natural habitat around Perth and southern WA starting in
November.
The first project, working with Coastcare and City of Kwinana,
is about restoring coastal and river areas south of Perth. The
second project, working with the South East Regional Centre
for Urban Landcare (SERCUL), will focus on wetland
rehabilitation.
Each project will employ nine young participants and one
team leader for 6 months. Participants will learn a raft of
Landcare skills including working in a collaborative team
environment, with exposure to industry experts in the field.
They will be involved in meaningful restorative work with
demonstrable outcomes and develop a deeper understanding
of our natural and cultural heritage. At the same time they will
have the opportunity to complete a Certificate II in
Conservation & Land Management.
The projects will be run out of Ngulla Training and Community
Centre, which is part of Bridging the Gap - a top-performing
local organisation that bridges the gap between people and
jobs.
Bridging the Gap CEO Colin Kerr said “We will combine
Bridging the Gap’s training expertise and Ngulla’s
environmental and supervisory capabilities with our partners’
knowledge of local environmental needs. It’s a match made in
heaven.”
Peter Bird, the Manager at Ngulla Training and Community
Centre, said “We’re looking forward to working with people
who have a passion for the natural environment, and gearing
them up with skills to find further work in the field.”
Anyone is interested in joining our Green Army should contact
Bridging the Gap on 08 9550 1111 or email
