Preface

“It may just be a part of your life, but for it, you’re its whole life.”

A pet isn’t a toy; it’s a life. It’s a responsibility, its hard work and most of all, its love. Everyday, we come across animals on the streets. Some born there, some left there. They don’t have a home, for them it is survival. Everyday is a struggle for food and shelter. After losing my dog, Dabboo, in 2014, I realized what impact he had on my life. This made me think about all the families who have animals as pets and the animals who don’t have a family. I chose to do my project on animal love. I visited a couple of animal shelters and interacted with dogs living there. Every dog had a story behind the reason why it was in the shelter. Some abandoned, some accident victims, some used as breeders and some left to die, each who could use the love of a home.I decided to make this graphic novel on a dog named “Buddy”. Buddy was like any other dog. He lived. He loved. He thought he understood his world, but his world didn’t quite understand him. Buddy represents the story of many such animals who gave it their all but didn’t get half as much back.Scarred by the harsh realities of life, these animals continue to live on.The series of events that occur in this story are inspired by true incidents.
