National Electrical Code Campaign In order to promote National Electrical Code of India - 2011, International Copper Promotion Council (India) (ICPCI) in partnership with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) undertook promotion campaign for the following 4 cities –

The objective was to enhance Electrical Safety amongst key constituents of building industry and industry stakeholders, through nationwide awareness campaign about key provisions in revised National Electrical code of India 2011.The campaign was supported by agencies like Bureau of Indian Standards – BIS, The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Fire and Security Association of India (FSAI), Electrical Contractors Association of India (ELCA), Institute of Engineers, and National Institute of Construction Management and Research (NICMAR)
It was attended by Electrical Engineers of all key government depts. like State Chief Electrical Inspectorate, Public Work Dept. State Electricity Board, Electrical Consultants, A Grade Electrical Contractors, Educational Institutions Electrical dept. head, Architects, etc. and sponsored by organizations like - Chola M/S Risk Services, OBO Bettermann, UL , Hager, Luminous , Jeff Technology Solutions .The seminar witnessed participation of over 500 delegates and the event received wide coverage in local publications.
Electrical Utility Management Seminar Organised
ICPCI in association with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) organized 2 days National Seminar on “Electrical Utility Management” at Chennai on 17 & 18 July 2013, with Special Focus on: VFD and Building Electrical Safety The objective of the Seminar was,
a. Equip industries with latest trends on efficient O&M practices, Electrical Safety, condition monitoring of electrical equipment’s
b. Develop confidence and increase the capability of plant personnel to equip with best practices in Electrical Engineering
c. Help industries in terms of getting information regarding technology providers, consultants.
The participants included National & International technology providers, experts, academicians, consultants and end users who shared their valuable experiences and knowledge during this technical meet.
Asia Power Quality Initiative Knowledge Platform
A. ICPCI, successfully prepared, co-ordinated and hosted a four day residential workshop on ‘Advancements in Power Quality improvement techniques’ at Trivandrum –Kerala in co-operation with FICCI as National Support Network (NSN) partner, University of Bergamo-Italy, IIT Delhi as Institutional partner and other key OEM partners like Fluke, Dranetz, Unicorn, Jeff Techno, Schneider Electric etc. The workshop, during 26-29th August was attended by twenty four senior level officials from end user industry and few academic faculties.
B. ICPCI signed a MoU to promote PQ amongst EE community and build capacity to address PQ issues faced by industry, with Confederation of Indian Industry, (CII) at Hyderabad. As part of this MoU CII in joint partnership with APQI (Knowledge Partner) hosted a full day session on ‘Electrical Systems and PQ Management’ during their flagship annual event ‘12th EE Summit 2013’ held during 19-22nd Aug’13. This increased PQ outreach with cooperation of industry association. The summit was attended by 272 delegates from industry, IT/ITES sector and Green Building community.
C. ICPCI supported Kongu Engineering College, Erode-Tamil Nadu to host a national seminar on “Electrical Power Quality Issues – Standards, Practices and Research Aspects” in association with both ICPCI and APQI. The daylong seminar on 24th August was attended by 127 academic, student community including 45 local industry engineers. This program was aimed to create interest among academic community to carry out application research on solving PQ issues faced by industries and provided one of its kind first time platform in local area for interaction between academic and industry professionals.
Sustainable Energy:
Distribution Transformer Campaign
ICPCI organised regional workshop jointly with the support of Indian Transformer Manufacturers
Association (ITMA) for northern region states which was held on 24th of September 2013 in New Delhi
to promote Energy Efficiency and reliability of the DTs in order to facilitate the compliance to the
labelling regulations and implementation of quality improvement actions for DTs. Mr. Prakash
Thakkar, Director Technical, Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd graced the event as Chief Guest.
Over 70 delegates attended the workshop, consisting of
transformer manufacturers, utilities, personnel from
Central government, Rural Electric Corporation (REC),
Central Electricity Authority (CEA). Similar workshops are
planned for other regions. (15th November 2013 for
South, December end for West, February 2014 for East).
The summary report of the deliberations of these regional
workshops will be shared with the Ministry of Power and
State Government bodies for improvement in
implementation of energy labelling regulations and quality
improvement actions.
Super-Efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment (SEAD) program launched globally
With ICPCI initiative, for Indian region SEAD program, Mr Anil Naik, Chairman, Rotating Machine
Division, IEEMA held meeting with Ms Kavita Ravi, United States Department of Energy (U.S. DOE)
and CLASP for the Motors Super-Efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment (SEAD) initiative
program for India & requested Indian motor manufacturers to participate in the Global Efficiency
Medal competition. The SEAD Global Efficiency Medal competition showcases the most energy-
efficient motors in order to influence purchasing decisions and transform the market by increasing the
share of energy-efficient products.(For India, the ratings chosen for the competition are 3.7kW &

Partnership with IEEMA
ICPCI in association with IEEMA (Indian Electrical
and Electronics Manufacturers Association) held
talks with the Union Government officials of key
ministries involved in the process of Mandating
standard IS12615 at Delhi, The mandatory process
has been initiated by arranging an regulatory
technical committee meeting consisting of all
stakeholders to be organized by Bureau of Indian
Standards in month of August. For adoption of
IS12615 as mandatory, a formal recommendation
letter from Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce
and Industry has been issued to following key ministries involved in the process, & it is suggested that
this issue may be examined on priority & urgent meeting may be convened involving all stakeholders

Influencing Improved Standards
ICPCI influenced Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to organise the regulatory technical committee
meeting consisting of all stakeholders on 04thSeptember 2013. One of the main agenda points of the
committee deliberation was on how to make IS12615 standard mandatory.
Adoption of IE2 Motors
After ICPCI awareness efforts, two industry units (Reliance
Infra Ltd, Thermal power plant, Dahanu & Kumar Cotton
Mills, Narol) have adopted Energy efficient motors (IE2 &
IE3) for specific projects; The industry unit Reliance Infra Ltd,
Thermal power plant, Dahanu, have already raised enquiries
for IE2 & IE3 motors for replacing old-standard motors and
the Management of Kumar Cotton Mills, Narol, have adopted
the concept of 'Retrofit Project' for replacement of old and re-
wounded motors and have installed/replaced approx. 30
numbers of IE2 motors in their processing units.

Design competition to promote 5mm copper tubes for air conditioners
The National Student Design Competition on designing split air conditioner using 5 mm inner grooved
copper tubes for heat exchangers has been finalised with ISHRAE Student chapter. The winners will
be awarded price money during the International ACREX exhibition being held in New Delhi from 27th
Feb to 1st March 2014. This will help in promotion of 5mm copper tubes for aircons.

Copper in Design Workshops gains momentum
Reputed Architectural and Design Colleges in India are eager to
learn about the use of Copper in Art and Décor. With the support
of Renowned Artist, Gaurav Bharadwaj this educational outreach
initiative has reached out to students in India and Pakistan.

ICPCI for the first time taught 24 hearing impaired children of Anushruti Foundation, IIT Roorkee
Workshop for 36 students of Interior Designing at the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi
25 students of Product Design participated for the Cop per Workshop at IDC – IIT Bombay
Workshop conducted for 33 Interior Design Students at SNDT Women’s College, Mumbai
Antimicrobial Copper:
Third Indian Hospital Adds Copper to Fight Infection
One of India’s most prominent chain of hospitals, the Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) has announced it will begin installing Antimicrobial Copper as part of its infection control strategy. The 600 bed multi-disciplinary super specialty facility says the copper upgrade will initially target the neonatal and liver transplant Intensive Care Units, and include bed rails, ward trolleys, over-bed tables and door hardware. The hospital plans to monitor infection rates in the renovated ICU’s with an eye to expanding the copper roll out to other wards and possibly across the 10 other affiliated hospitals in its network in southern India. The refurbishment, which is expected to be completed by mid-October, is being undertaken by Copper Front India Pvt. Ltd., the first Indian company accredited to make and sell Antimicrobial Copper products stamped with the global Cu+ brand.
