October 29th marked the one-year anniversary of a day that left a powerful and sad memory on our Butler campus and throughout our community. We allowed our students to take the lead planning that day and decided on a “Day of Kindness” to remember all of the students impacted. The goal is to continue moving forward together in a unified and positive manner. Students had the opportunity to engage in various activities designed to promote kindness on our campus. We would like to thank the following clubs, organizations, and individuals for helping and contributing to this day: Sources of Strength Committee, DREAM Team, Butler Art Department, Key Club, PTSO, Men of Butler, Elevation Church, Community Part-ners, our teachers and staff.

Below, our DREAM Team led by Ms. Deese readying the hundreds of luminaries that will be placed in front of the school down through the carpool areas and leading to the student parking lot.

Butler Kindness Day

Thank you to Elevation Church who created

this beautiful chalk mural that welcomed

students into the school that morning. It

truly was a work of art and highlighted our

Day of Kindness theme.

Butler Kindness Day

Our Sources of Strength Committee led by Ms. Ziegler came up with the idea of writing uplifting and encouraging messages on sticky notes and posting them all over the school. Students, teachers, and staff literally wrote thousands of messages and posted them on every locker, window, and door.

Butler Kindness Day

Thank you to our Art Department students who recreated the Pinwheels for Peace project and wrote messages of support on each pinwheel.

Thank you to our PTSO who handed out candy to students in the morning and provided a pizza lunch for Butler staff.

We are ALL Butler! Each day we start our announcements with this phrase, "Remember-- regardless of your background, ethnicity race, religion, or gender, we are all different, but we are all Butler." This year, social studies teacher Elizabeth Mosley came up with the idea of inviting our bilingual students from around the world to deliver this message in their native languages. Gabriela Hernandez is a senior. She was born in Charlotte and has lived here her whole life. Gabriela is not only bilingual in English and Spanish, but she is learning other languages, too. She loves the clubs at Butler. Once she graduates, Gabriela wants to study at CPCC and UNCC and major in nursing.

Texas Roadhouse Winner for October Our Roadhouse winner for October is new social studies teacher, Jason Valentine. He was selected by his colleagues for being a great addition to the Social Studies Department after joining us midway through the 2018-2019 school year. This year he is serving the entire school as chairman of the School Leadership Team (SLT) and brings his great sense of humor to Butler! Congratulations Mr. Valentine!

Marching Band Congratulations to our marching band for winning Grand Champion at Ashbrook on October 19th! They also won first place in their class, highest percussion of the day, and highest drum major of the day. Congratulations to Mr. Dowell and all of our marching bulldogs!

Our Student Government Association (SGA) led by teachers Ms. Tomlinson and Ms. Knechtel put a tremendous amount of planning and effort into making sure all of our spirit week and homecoming festivities were fun and engaging for the whole school. Below are photos from our PowderPuff Football Game where the juniors played the senior girls, and the boys were the cheerleaders! Lots of fun and laughs. Congratulations to Yafet Habtemariam and Yasmine Lewis, our homecoming king and queen! See more photos at: http://bit.ly/ButlerHoco2019
