Snow Laborers Crucial in Clearing Snow and Ice After Big Winter Storms;

New for this Season: Advance Online Registration Required

The New York City Department of Sanitation has announced that registration is now open for

those interested in working as Emergency Snow Laborers for the upcoming winter season.

Emergency Snow Laborers are per-diem workers who shovel snow and clear ice from bus

stops, crosswalks, fire hydrants and step streets around the five boroughs after heavy

snowfalls. Snow Laborers earn $15 per hour to start, and $22.50 per hour after 40 hours are

worked in a week.

To better allow for social distancing and COVID-related protocols, those interested in

becoming a Snow Laborer must register for a 15-minute application appointment

at nyc.gov/snow. Registration appointments take place at the Department’s 59 garages.

Snow laborers must be at least 18 years of age, be eligible to work in the United States, and

capable of performing heavy physical labor. All applicants must bring the following items at

the time of registration:

Two small photos (1 ½ square)

Original and copy of two forms of identification

Social Security card

To comply with COVID-related safety protocols, potential Snow Laborers should wear a

mask or face covering while at the registration appointment. Applicants should not attend the

appointment if they have any COVID-19 symptoms, if they recently traveled to a state with

high rates of COVID-19 transmission, or if they recently had close contact with someone who

has tested positive for COVID -19.

Celebration for Mr. Joseph Salerno on Sunday We welcome Sr. Teresita Morse, RJM, of the Catechetical Office of the New York Archdiocese to

the 11:15am Mass this coming Sunday. She will visit us to present Mr. Joseph Salerno with the St.

Joseph Medal at Mass, an acknowledgement of his 40 years of service to Catechetical Education in

New York.

Throughout these many years and continuing today, Joseph Salerno has formed children and their

families to be disciples of Jesus, In addition, he has trained Catechists to hand on the faith with

excellence: by his example as a life-long Catechist himself, by his years of teaching Catechist

Formation, and by his role as a Director of Religious Education, guiding and training the Catechists

in his program.

We are honored that Mr. Joseph Salerno generously shares his gifts with our Parish as Director of

Religious Education at Resurrection Chapel.

Remembering the Deceased in November The Month of November is a time of remembrance of friends and relatives who have gone before

us. The Dead will be remembered daily at Masses during November. Please use your ALL

SOULS envelopes to support Masses said in November for the Dead. No more than 10 names to

be remembered may be listed on any ALL SOULS envelope.

Instead of an Altar of Remembrance for our deceased placed in our Churches, I would like to

display images of those who have passed away since November, 2019 on a computer screen in

the Church and at the end of our Livestreamed November Masses. Please send me images of

the front page of Funeral Programs or images of your deceased since November 2019, to

[email protected]

Voting In November Each of you must make a decision about how you will vote in the National Elections. You have

the choice of participating in Early Voting or receiving a Mail-in Ballot or going to the Polls on

November 3rd. Your choice depends on which option meets your needs for safety, reliability,

and convenience. Each person must consider their individual needs.

For my part I have decided to participate in Early Voting in New York between October 24th

and November 1st. This will require that I have to vote at a different polling place than I usually

use. However, for me, it is safer and more reliable to participate in early voting. In the past I

have used absentee ballots but the Postal Service in my 10030-zip code has become increasingly

unreliable. Since I am not currently ill, I have the option of travelling a little farther to cast my

vote in Early Voting. I also think Early Voting will allow me to avoid longer lines on Election

Day, November 3rd. Since I am over 65 years of age, it will be safer to vote in person at a date

and time when most people are not voting. These are the reasons that I have decided to

participate in Early Voting in New York between October 24th and November 2nd.

enfermos: Cindy Cain, Dorothy Jones, Herbert Jones y Mary Ingram.

ALL SOULS.
