While they were eating, he took the bread, said the blessing, broke it, gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. MESSAGE FROM FR . DAVID
Pentecost and the Life of the Church—Part 3
The life of the Church for us is to be based upon love. Jesus told us that we are to love one another
as He loved us. By this the world will know that we belong to Him. The life of the Church is a communal life of repentant sinners who deny themselves, take up their crosses to follow Christ and to love one another as He has loved us. Yes, there will be sacrifices to make. Yes, there will be hardships to endure. We hope not like those Paul endured, but still. In the life of the Church, we ought to be able to catch a glimpse of the life of the world to come. In the already, we should be getting a preview of the not yet.
There’s the life of the world and then there’s the life of the Church. In the world, you are on your own. Just think of one very simple fact about life as we know it in the here and now: locks. We have to live with locks. What family would go off on a two week vacation and not lock their house? That’s just one small feature of life in the world. But through the Church, we’re told of another life, the life of the world to come, a world where no one will need any locks.
The life of the Church reminds of the not-yet. It points us towards the life of the world to come. The Holy Spirit gave birth to the Church. The Holy Spirit preserves the words of Jesus in our minds.
It’s because of the Holy Spirit that Paul was able to endure what he did. And it’s the Holy Spirit giving the Church its life, and giving us our life in loving communion with one another and with our Lord Jesus Christ that enables us to live this life of the Church that we celebrate at Pentecost. Amen.

Padre David
