Week 6 Term 4 Tuesday, 12th November 2013
Remembrance Day
Ceremony
Yesterday
Mrs Agnew along
with our school
captains attended the
combined schools
Remembrance Day
ceremony which was
held at the
Cenotaph. Our
school ceremony for
students and staff
was held at 11am.
Stage 1 Excursion
Stage 1 will be visiting Dundullimal
Homestead and the Old Dubbo Goal next
week as part of their work in the HSIE
unit Families Past and Present. Please
ensure money and note are returned to
school as soon as possible.
Year 6 Transition Visits
Over the next few weeks, students in
Year 6 will be involved in a number
of visits to the Dubbo Colleges
Delroy and South Campus for
transition. The program allows students to meet
teachers, classmates and orient themselves with their
new learning environment. They will need to be in full
school uniform including a hat. They will need a water
bottle and pencil case.
Year 6 to Year 7 Information Night An information evening for parents
and caregivers of students going into
Year 7 in 2014 next year will be held
on Wednesday, 13th November at
South Campus and Delroy Campus. The information
session will begin at 6:30pm and will be held in the
school hall of both campuses.
Kinder Start
Our Kinder Start program has been
operating for the past 5 weeks and
will continue for another 3 weeks.
The children have been learning
about the school and have been
visiting the kindergarten rooms, meeting the
kindergarten teachers and participating in some fun
activities. This is an exciting time for our new kindys
as they are getting close to starting big school. The
program will conclude on the 28th November with a
parent information session, graduation ceremony and
Christmas party where the children will get to work
with their parents to complete some Christmas craft.
This program is very beneficial as it helps the children
to become familiar with the “big school” environment
and aids their transition to school. If you know of
anyone who has not enrolled their child for next year
please remind them to do so.

Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn, At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We shall remember them”

It was the day of the one-hour gaming arcade
event that I had won. I walked the two blocks to
the new arcade and as I approached the arcade
I could see that a huge, excited crowd had
gathered. I walked into the gaming arcade and
within a ‘blink of an eye’ I had seen the tall, dark
console that was, ‘Vampire Mission’. I felt as if I
was all alone, facing the fearsome, scariest game
in Brisbane. There was not a sound as everyone’s
nose was pressed against the glass trying to
peek through. I was concentrating so hard,
looking forward to defeating the legend of
Vampire Mission, that I barely noticed the depth
of the crowd that had gathered.
In no time at all, I had selected my player and
was taking footsteps into the game. Suddenly,
the game froze and I began frantically pushing
buttons and pulling toggles before giving the
game a big, almighty kick. The game flickered
back on, but it had pulled me in. I was screaming
and shouting but no one had seemed to notice
that I was no longer playing and instead had
become a part of the game. How could this be
happening? As I frantically looked around I
noticed an evil shadow looming. Ahhhhh!!!!!

LITERACY TIPS...
Read at bedtime. At bedtime, tell your child he or she can choose either reading or sleeping. Most kids will choose to read, as long as you don't offer something more tempting... like TV. Children enjoy this special time with parents. You can spend it either with you reading to them or them reading to you or both.
Punctuate your reading.?! When you read aloud, read with expression. Discuss how punctuation on a page represents ways of speaking. You can say, for example, "When we talk, we usually pause a little bit at the end of a sentence. The way we show this pause in writing is to use a period."
Gently correct your young reader. When your child makes a mistake reading a word, gently point out the letters he or she overlooked or read incorrectly. Ask questions such as, "Do you remember what sound this letter makes?" Many beginning readers will guess wildly at a word based on its first letter. Children need to be encouraged to pay attention to all the letters in a word.
Be patient. When your child is trying to sound out an unfamiliar word, give him or her time to do so. If you've ever had to learn a foreign language, you know how difficult it can be to figure out a word you've never seen before.

Last week 41 stage 2 students spent 2 very busy days at Wambangalang with Ms Pilon, Miss
Fraser, Alex and Narelle. The students had an opportunity to participate in the low ropes
course, team work games, boomerang painting, orienteering, bike riding, insect study under
the microscope and movies. During the students free time they were able to explore the
centre and play with the sports equipment. On Thursday afternoon Miss Puckeridge came
out to visit and bought ice creams for everyone. By Friday afternoon there were some very
tired students and teachers who had enjoyed a fun filled 2 days of new experiences. A
special thank you to Narelle Ross for taking all the food out in her car and organising it
before the students arrived.

Today, a select group of students were treated to
a special artistic treat. We were provided with an
opportunity to learn from and create art
with a talented visiting artist.
Kirsten, the resident artist travelled all the way
from Bondi in Sydney
representing RAW art company.
Students from Stage One created a beautiful
mural representing “My Family, My Community”.
Their images were created using acrylic paints,
water colours, charcoals
and a little bit of team work.
The students showed beautiful listening skills,
behaviour and creativity.
The Stage 2 students entered our creative space and worked with Kirsten on inventing a
flying machine, they developed some fantastic drawings with intricate details. The students
showed imagination and great skill. Photos in next week’s newsletter.
The Stage 3 students created terracotta totems using clay. Through this creative process,
they learnt about the function of clay, whether it be functional or creative. The students
moulded and manipulated their clay into some marvellous masterpieces. Mrs Faulds
