A Daring Day in Duxford

On Wednesday 6th November 2019 Year 5 and 6 travelled to Duxford. It took an hour and a half on the

coach and it was jam-packed with children. When we got there everyone was very exited to see all of the

magnificent artefacts. First we went to Hangar One where we were told that we were doing a documentary

of all the things we thought shouldn't have been in a museum but should have been displayed in all there

glory somewhere else. After the successful documentaries, we went back to Hangar One to see the

concorde (which was very exiting). Next we travelled one mile and a half to the land warfare which had

loads of tanks. Finally we went to Hanger Seven where all the American planes and artefacts were. In all,

the trip was a very memorable occasion. By Harry, Josh and Matthew.

RSE Workshop—Tuesday 12th November 1.45 pm or 6.00 pm

As I said in the newsletter last week, Miss Moore and I are looking forward to leading the Relationships and

Sex Education Workshop for parents / carers on Tuesday. Here are just a few of the questions we are

hoping to answer during the session:

What is covered in Relationships and Sex Education? What does the law say about teaching RSE? Can I

choose to remove my child from aspects of Relationships and Sex education? Will RSE take away my child’s

innocence? What sort of resources will be used to teach RSE? When is the right time to introduce our

pupils to some of the more challenging areas of discussion such as the acronym LGBT and what it means or

information around STIs? Please make sure you attend one of the sessions at either 1.45 pm or 6.00 pm to

find out the answers to these questions and to enable you to ask any other questions you may have about

this crucial area.

An Important Event

We would like to invite you to attend

the

BURES CEVC SCHOOL

ART EXHIBITION

at 3.00 pm on

Friday 15th November

The children will be spending next

week creating all sorts of fabulous

works of art and they will be

displayed in the hall at the end of

the day on Friday. Please come and

look if you can—I know the children

will be thrilled to share their work

with you!

Collective Worship

On Monday in assembly, I attempted to nurture a plant by

feeding it a chocolate crispy cake, giving it some lemonade and

covering it with a blanket to keep it warm. The children were

quick to let me know that this wasn’t the correct way to look

after a plant. We went on to talk about how our new simple

behaviour rules have been put into place to help us look after

our whole school community. We are now all working hard to

show how we are ready, respectful and responsible every day.

On Wednesday, Mrs Bacon shared the story of Noah. She

linked the story to our Christian value (and school rule) of

responsibility. The children were asked to think about how

Noah took on the responsibility of building the ark even though

people were making fun of him. He recognised the importance

of doing what he knew was right even though it was hard. Mrs

Bacon went on to encourage the children to consider how

important it is for them to act responsibly even if their friends

aren’t. Rev. Steve led our

collective worship at St

Mary’s on Thursday. He

talked about how we can

learn what God is like by

looking at what Jesus was

like when he was on earth.

He then showed us a mirror

reminding us that God can

be seen in each one of us

too.

Keeping our Children Safe Online

Mrs Holmes our E-safety Lead has sent me this infor-

mation from the Two Johns on a new app you may want

to be aware of. It is always worth keeping an eye on

their Facebook page to stay updated.

Hair Accessories

I have noticed recently that more and more elaborate

hair accessories have been creeping into school. I know

how cute cat and teddy ears and unicorn horns look but

they are not part of school uniform and neither are

‘JoJo’ type bows. Hopefully, this will help you as

parents to avoid lots of discussion and decision-making

around getting dressed in the morning.

Following our Environmental Health Officer visit this

week, the kitchen team were awarded 5 stars (the

highest possible rating). Well done to Anna and her

kitchen team!

Church Links—THIS SUNDAY

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY - 10TH NOVEMBER

Once again a Family Remembrance Service will be

held in the School Hall, together with the

Brownies, Cubs and Beavers as a way of

remembering the sacrifices all kinds of people

made, and continue to make, for us in wars across

the world.

Refreshments will be served from 10 am, and the

Service will follow at 10.30 am. After that, we will

walk to St Mary's Church where we will join the

congregation and others for the laying of wreaths

at the War Memorial.

We would love to see as many

children and parents from school

join us too. We will be laying a

wrath from the school and I will

choose a small group of children

who are smartly dressed in their

school uniforms to do this on be-

half of us all.

Children in Need goes SPORTY!

This year to raise money for ‘Children in Need’ our School Council

are inviting all pupils to come dressed in sportswear on Friday 15th

November. We are planning to hold a mammoth workout session

‘The Big Morning Move’ led by Joe Wicks (he wont be here in per-

son but on screen will be just as good) so we can do some good for

others and get ourselves fit at the same time. We will be asking for a donation to ‘Children to Need’ to be

able to leave your uniform at home and get sporty.

MAPAC UNIFORM

Our uniform supplier MAPAC has informed us

that they will be having a Black Friday and a Jan-

uary Sale. In order to receive information about

these offers please register you details and opt

in to receive marketing emails.

Christmas Dinner

We will be serving Christmas Dinner on Tuesday 17th

December. You are able to order and pay on the School

Gateway. We are asking for you to order you

child/ren’s Christmas dinner no

later than the 10th December in

order to give our kitchen plenty of

notice.

Shoe boxes for the Shoe Box appeal need to be in on Friday 15th November. Financial donations can be

made if you prefer which will be used to top up boxes, cover shipping and other project costs.
