Meet Cathy Lyttle: How did a news journalist end up working for a Fortune 1000 metals manufacturer? It took a pass through some news rooms, a Chamber of Commerce and a Sports team before arriving at a job that would take me around the world. Worthington Industries is firmly planted in Central Ohio, but it stretches across the U.S., across the Atlantic and to Asia. But it’s the company’s culture, grounded in an enduring philosophy that has made the Worthington a best company to work for and an

admired one. I’m proud of my 16 year career here heading up communications and investor relations.

My career took me down a number of paths, but there were commonalties that bridged them and opportunities in each to stretch myself. I’m appreciative of the opportunity to be the senior female at Worthington, but also know that it comes with responsibility for the next group of female leaders. Part of that responsibility was finding my voice in the board room and knowing when to effectively use it. It also means being a mentor and knowing that even when I’m not officially mentoring someone, my interactions with them provide guidance and learnings. I’ll talk a bit about some of the challenges of being the only female in the room and how I believe that most of the time, it can be a positive.

I’m also passionate about being involved in the community. I trace a lot of that back to my parents and my time at the Columbus Chamber. I believe we all have to be good stewards of our community and that means giving of our time, talent and treasure. I know that I learn a

lot being on non-profit boards that can also apply in my work life. And, it’s also incredibly rewarding and humbling to be involved in organizations that are doing

so much for others and improving our community.

Presentations were made by Deb Aungst, ActionCOACH sharing the benefits of GATE, an attraction and retention initiative, Luci Titus, FriendsOffice e-store office supply savings program and Christy McMillian, Representative for NovoPrint USA. Christy is busy contacting members about the map project that offers great rates for business advertising locally and beyond. 5,000 maps will be distributed in Gahanna and beyond over the next 2-3 years, an initiative that supports the chamber coffers.

The program titled, “Inspiration” featured guest speaker, Jeff Logan, former OSU running back and all-American in 1976. Jeff shared stories of life lessons learned by playing football. Portman Applauds Inclusion of Pro-Growth Provisions in Year-End Tax Legislation

Washington, D.C. –Today, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) released the following statement regarding

the inclusion of provisions that make expanded section 179 expensing for small businesses and the Research and Development Credit permanent, and provides for long-term extensions of bonus depreciation and the New Markets Tax Credit. During July’s Senate Finance Committee tax extenders markup, Senator Portman cosponsored amendments to make all four provisions permanent.

“Making permanent pro-growth tax provisions permanent is a key component to energizing our economy,” said Portman. “While I would have like to have seen all of these policies made permanent, this bill will give Ohio businesses better ability to plan long term, grow, and create jobs. Permanent small

business expensing will give small businesses the access to capital they need to expand. A permanent Research and Development credit will increase high-paying R&D jobs and increase economic activity. A long-term extension of bonus depreciation gives capital intensive Ohio businesses the capital they need to grow while an expanded ability to use Alternative Minimum Tax credits in lieu of bonus depreciation will help many Ohio manufacturers get new projects off the ground. Finally, a long-term extension of the New Markets Tax Credit will continue to help local communities attract capital to help low-income areas grow. All of these policies will help provide a boost to Ohio’s economy.”
