Former Edinburgh College student and Project SEARCH graduate Rory Landale met Minister for Employability and Training, Jamie Hepburn, to share his journey into employment.

Rory Landale former Edinburgh College student secured a receptionist role at Creative Exchange after completing the Project SEARCH programme. The programme, for young people aged 16-24 who have additional support needs and are seeking employment, provides interns with an opportunity to complete three full-time work placements over a nine-month period whilst receiving day to day training and job coaching.

SPOTLIGHTPROJECT SEARCH GRADUATE RORY MEETS EMPLOYABILITY MINISTER Having the confidence to speak to other

people was a real challenge for me. Working on our Valentine’s event helped me to feel more confident. It was fun organising and preparing for the event and on the day itself. Everyone worked as a team – we came together as a group and achieved our targets.

Darren began his journey into business by studying the first two years of his BA (Hons) Associate Business Management degree at Edinburgh College. Before progressing onto Queen Margaret University for further study, Darren was awarded the Principal’s Award for Academic Excellence for Business.

I joined college after finishing high school. At college the people are friendly and the lecturers are very helpful. The best times I had were with one lecturer in particular, Lynn Loudon, who helped make the year much more satisfactory.

I have been giving the opportunity to skip my honours year and straight into a Masters. I have begun my MSC in International Management and Leadership and I am really excited to see where it will take me.

Darren’s messages to our staff:

Lynn Loudon – thank you for being an amazing lecturer. You also helped me on a personal level dealing with problems and made my two years much easier.

Vicky Stewart - thank you for helping me when I was struggling with economics. I really benefited from your knowledge and teaching.

For the future I hope to progress through my MSC in International Management and Leadership and achieve graduation with either a first or 2:1. Although I do work at the moment, I will probably try and get a job within the business sector. My end goal is to be a manager of a company or to set up my own company.
