Review these five areas, to be sure your project qualifies: 1. The applicant• You must be a Manitoba Hydro commercial

customer billed at the electrical general service rate.

    2. The project• The building must be used in a

commercial, industrial, or agricultural (not a residential) capacity.

    • It must be an existing building that has been continuously occupied and operated for a minimum of two consecutive years. The only exception is for new exterior outdoor lighting.

    • The lighting must be permanently affixed to the building. Temporary lighting does not qualify.

    • The lighting must operate for a minimum of 2,000 hours per year to receive the listed incentives; however, pro-rate incentives are available if the lighting operates between 1,000 – 1,999 hours per year.

    • The lighting must be installed, as specified on the application, for a minimum of three years after the date of the incentive payment.

    3. The products• Lighting must be new, owned by the applicant and

approved by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA), or certified by an accredited independent organization, and must conform to CSA standards for the intended applications.

    • LED lamps must be DLC listed, ENERGY STAR® certified or approved by Efficiency Manitoba.

    • LED fixtures must be DLC listed, ENERGY STAR® certified or approved by Efficiency Manitoba.

    • LED backlit signage materials must be approved by Efficiency Manitoba

    • Lighting occupancy sensors and control systems must be approved by Efficiency Manitoba

    • It is your responsibility to ensure the lighting complies with appropriate industry, legal, safety, and other standards, guidelines, or recommendations which apply to the lighting application and use.

    • We recommend that you consult an electrical contractor or lighting designer to determine application-specific lighting requirements such as uniformity, colour temperature, light levels, and environmental aspects such as ingress protection (IP), corrosion, etc.

    4. The installation• Lighting must meet the requirements of the

Manitoba Electrical Code, all pertinent bylaws, be acceptable to the inspection authorities that have jurisdiction, and have a Certificate of Inspection (within Winnipeg) or Certificate of Approval (outside Winnipeg).

    • All retrofitted luminaires must be identified with approved labelling, listing the re-rated parameters to the satisfaction of Manitoba Electrical Inspections and Code officials.

    • For exterior applications, lighting must not be installed and aimed in a manner so as to cause glare onto neighboring properties, streets, or highways.

    • All existing lighting must be removed and properly recycled.

    • It is your responsibility to dispose of all hazardous materials (including PCBs) in accordance to all applicable government regulations.

    5. The supplier• Participating suppliers must have a Supplier

Participation Agreement in good standing with Efficiency Manitoba.

    • A supplier is any business supplying or installing the qualifying lighting product – this includes contractors, consultants, installers, vendors, and retailers.

This list only determines if the project is suitable for Efficiency Manitoba incentives.

You are responsible to ensure that the lighting products are suitable for the environment in which they are installed.

    How to participate

To qualify for any incentives, you must have written approval of your application from Efficiency Manitoba before you buy or install any lighting materials.

    1. You apply• Ensure you meet the applicant project, product, and

    installation requirements.

    • Consult an electrical contractor, lighting designer, or electrical inspector to determine your lighting requirements.

    • Complete the application pages from the Efficiency Manitoba website including:

    • Application form

    • Application worksheets

    • Required attachments

    • Submit the application (with attachments) to your Efficiency Manitoba representative or [email protected].

    • An Efficiency Manitoba representative may conduct a pre-inspection of the facility to verify the existing lighting system.

Note: Applications can be completed by the applicant or the contractor on the applicant’s behalf. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the lighting application is completed correctly and received by Efficiency Manitoba.

    2. We pre-approve• Efficiency Manitoba will email a written pre-approval

to the applicant. Do not purchase any materials or start your project until you have received this pre-approval.

    • After pre-approval is received, you have one year to purchase and install your new lighting.

    3. You complete your project• After your new lighting is installed an operational,

download and complete the completion documents from the Efficiency Manitoba website including:

    • Completion Declaration

    • Itemized invoicing detailing:

    • Date of purchase

    • Vendor’s name, customer’s name, and install address

    • Manufacturer name and model of each product

    • Product quantities

    • Per unit product costs and total, separate from design, labour, and taxes

    • Certificate of Inspection email (within Winnipeg) or Certificate of Approval (outside Winnipeg)

    • Submit the completion documents to your Efficiency Manitoba representative or [email protected]

    • An Efficiency Manitoba representative may conduct a post-inspection of the facility to confirm that all products were installed in accordance with the pre-approved application.

    4. We pay the incentive• Once all completion paperwork is received

by Efficiency Manitoba, the incentive will be adjusted based on invoicing, inspection, and any project changes.

    • Efficiency Manitoba will issue a cheque or deposit to the applicant.
