Gary’s success was a direct reflection of the Steel Mill

Gary had the potential to be the “City of the Century” but economic hard times put an end to that dream

During times of economic prosperity, the city prospered. But, during times of economic hardships, the city suffered.

With changes in industry, came changes in culture. Gary has a large African American culture with a rich history linked to the steel mills.
