What are ocean currents?The ocean current is the steady flow of

ocean water in a prevailing direction.Ocean currents are caused by the sun,

wind and the rotation of the Earth.Surface currents are the currents that are

caused above a depth of 400 meters (1,300 feet) and are mostly caused by wind.

Deep water currents are currents that are below 400 meters and make up 90% of the ocean.

ClimateThe ocean holds most of the Earths

heat energy. In fact according to the American Institute of Physics oceans store more heat in there top few yards than the entire atmosphere.

When currents move they carry the heat with them which impacts climate. An example of this is El Nino.

El Nino occurs every 4 to 8 years and is the change of the currents in the Pacific Ocean, and brings warmer water to the coast of South America.
