Our 2016 classes to be formed very soon. Welcome to week 2 of the school year. Our students have returned with enthusiasm and a commitment to doing their best this year and our new students are settling in well. We have had almost all of our students return to school last week and are very close to finalising our numbers to form classes. At this stage, we are very close to being able to form ten classes. We are expecting a few more students to return to school in the coming days and will then be able to move the students into their classes for 2016. As soon as our final numbers are established, your child will bring a note home, informing you of their class, classroom and teacher for 2016. Our kindergarten students have a great start to school. Last Thursday and Friday were very special days in the lives of our newest members of the Matraville community (and their parents and carers!). We welcomed thirty new students into kindergarten and they were keen, interested and excited to find out about their new school, meet new friends and take part in learning activities with their teachers. How proud parents and carers must be to see their little ones looking so grown up and ready for school! Thank you to parents and carers for their positive and encouraging support of their children over the last few days. The students had a special visit from Channel 7 news on Thursday where they were able to see a film crew in action and even participate in making the news as they appeared on the 6pm news last Thursday night. Here’s a link to the news story in case you missed it. snpy.tv/1ZUAyYT The link is on our website so you can show family and friends who may be far away or overseas! The reporter from channel 7, Cath Turner, was so impressed by our students, she sent a wonderful email to the school, congratulating us on our students’ behaviour and participation. We are all feeling proud! Here are some of the students in their new classrooms over the last few days. Welcome to school kindergarten! We are thrilled to have you! Swimming Carnival on Monday 15 February, 2016. Our Year 3-6 swimming carnival is fast approaching and students have brought a note home today with information about the carnival. Please make sure that the information about your child’s swimming ability is carefully completed and that the note and payment are returned by Thursday 11 February. Students need to be at school by 9.00am to take part in the pre-carnival safety talk with their teacher. We are looking forward to seeing parents and carers at the pool. Entry for spectators is $4.00. Our Mrs Kelly welcomes her new baby during the holidays. As you know, Mrs Kelly, who taught stage three last year, was expecting her first child during the holidays. She has had a beautiful little girl named Piper Grace and Mum and baby and doing really well. She has sent us a gorgeous photo of her growing family for you to enjoy. Congratulations Mrs and Mr Kelly! We look forward to Mrs Kelly returning later this year. QUALITY STAFF INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS VALUED PARENT AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
