Convento San Francisco was founded by the Pitarch and Garcia families in 1998 and is built inside a restored 13th century monastary in the fortress town of Peñafiel, Valladolid. Aldeasoña (Dream Village) is a second winery located close to Ribera del Duero. It is also housed in a restored property where an ancient lagare type press has also been restored.

Essence: An artisanal, old-vine offering from Ribera del Duero. Respecting ancient traditions while using the latest technologies to produce great wines from old vines.

1. Convento San Francisco grapes are sourced from 46 plots in Ribera del Duero. Diez carefully selected the plots to balance the regions 3 soil types: calcareous, sandy, and alluvial with a marl component

2. Vines range from 20-102 years old, half of which are pre-phylloxera3. Small production: 8,000 cases per year4. 90+ Parker scores consistently5. Diez also makes ~600 cases a year of Aldeasona from ungrafted,

pre-phylloxera Tempranillo vines >95yo in Ribera del Duero. Rather than conform to the DO regulations however, he takes the VdlT Castilla y Leon designation
