Work on reconfiguring the 10th fairway is currently underway with the new fairway shape now becoming clearly visible, old bunkers removed, new bunkers relocated and shaped. Soon play from a 150 meters out from the green will not be a blind shot in, as it was in the past. Also very importantly the direction will be more focused towards the

right and away from the Cumberland Highway.

A Temporary course has been set up to accommodate the short course until further notice.

Apart from the excellent workmanship from our Course Super, Steve Kazurinsky and his team, we have had the tireless efforts of Captain Andrew Marsh and the world class experience of Craig Parry to overseer and

recommend.

Our 11th hole Is also receiving it’s special touches with a meandering creek running from the dam at the right of the 11th green and joining up with the dam on the back of the 12th tee. Our recently acquired sandstone will feature

throughout the creek. Players will be compensated with the filling in of the front dam on the 11th hole.

A lot has been achieved in the past 2 to 3 years namely:

The purpose built road down to the green shed.

The concrete path that now extends from the front right side of the 1st green to join up with the second tee and

beyond.

The 4th concrete path has been extended as has some running repairs or extensions around the course. The dam in front of the 14th green has now been filled in and an escape area has been well received by most players. The

gully on the right side of the 2nd hole has had the slope greatly reduced.

The fairway bunkers on the left hand side of the first have been filled in and some trees pruned, removed to

provide a preferred landing area away from Cabramatta Road.

The 1st tee markers are now placed to the right making players aim away from Cabramatta Road.

The 3rd fairway is now directed more towards the left, thus away from our neighboring houses. Soon a further 100

trees will be planted on the right side of the 3rd fairway and once again protecting our neighbors houses.

To the joy of many the rear green side bunker on 17 has been filled in and further work is in the planning stages for

this beautiful hole.

The 8th fairway is now in outstanding condition due to the thinning out of overgrown, overplanted trees. The 9 th

fairway is just another example of this same process.

Planting of hundreds of trees on the 10th, 11th, 17th has proved very successful with excellent growth that will soon provide definition to our holes. Planting the right trees in the right location will definitely have long term benefits for

generations to come.

The filling in of the hazard at the back of the 11th green has removed an eyesore and sped up play with players not looking

for lost balls they didn’t see from the 12th tee.

Unfortunately, fortunately we lost about 20 old pine trees on the right side of the 13th fairway owing to a disease that rapidly

spread.

The new practice chipping green beside the 17th tee has proved most popular and this replaced an overgrown impractical

garden that players had trouble finding their stray balls.

We have many more plans for further improvement but none more important than the introduction of our bunker upgrade plan that in realistic terms could take up to 3 to 4 years. Bunkers are expensive to do, we intend to do them right the first time and hope they will be a feature of our Club. The bunker upgrades will be funded from our future funds allocation that

is currently growing at approximately $85,000 per year.

With everything previously mentioned about advances to our beautiful golf course I cannot forget to mention the Clubhouse renovations that are 3 years old this month. Talk about getting “a whole lot of bang for your buck”. Gone are the 5 different types of carpet, gone is the tired old Club. I believe our current look will not date quickly and we will have many

years of member comfort and the increased trade benefit that comes with it.

I know that I have probably missed a couple of items but one that I cannot forget to mention is our Club’s ability to only raise membership dues by a total of only $55 in the past 3 years. Costs have not gone down, everything has gone up but

thanks to our healthy trade, are fees are keep at a minimum, thank you to our valued patrons.

Friday 29th March 2019 will see our annual update of our gaming room, 3 of the latest and most popular machines on the market will replace our 3 least popular machines. Also a couple of positional moves plus a game conversion should add

some needed fresh interest into that area.

Friday 29th March 2019 will also see the CPI increase of some bar purchases, a schooner of full strength beer will rise to $5 and increase of 20 cents. Although the industry receives 2 increases per year, namely February and August, we

increase only the once in line with the end of our financial year.

I very much look forward to the new Championship dates commencing Saturday 4th May 2019 finishing with the final round Saturday 25th May. The Club Championships actually follow another 2 prestigious events, namely the Cabramatta Cup a Vardon event, this year being held on Saturday 27th April 2019 and the Senior Event on Monday, 6th May. Our course will

be in peak condition come late April/ May so it will be good to show off all that we have achieved in such a short time.

One final mention is the success of our new dining experience, “La Mesa”. I wish to thank Will & Neil for the smooth transition, the reports I am receiving from corporates to families is all very encouraging. If you haven’t tried please do

yourself a favor and bring your family down for a very good quality meal at a price that won’t burn a hole in your pocket.

Hello Cabra,

Well it’s been a big couple of months as far as purchasing goes in the pro shop. As many of you may know I am one of a dying breed of golf pros who still run the business in the shop itself. Therefore I still have to work hard on providing the right stock at the right price for you. Believe me, both Michelle and I do our best to find great deals for all our members and customers.

Although shop size is against me, overheads aren’t, that’s why we are always super competitive with all current stock in the shop.

Our latest purchase was a warehouse clearance of one of Australia’s biggest clothing companies. They are moving and needed to get rid of showroom stock as well as items not picked up. This has resulted in us buying hundreds of items from them at the right price.

The price of some items are from 50% off to 70% off, I will also logo any purchase of $29.95 and over free of charge with our club emblem!

Well all the new clubs are now here! Try Callaway Epic, Titleist Ts2 or 3, the new Ping g410 clubs and also the new M6 & M5 from Taylor Made (the new drivers are all incredible and must be tried!) we also have our best ever display of putters from Ping, Odyssey and Scotty Cameron.

I do have some ex demo gear floating around the shop also so you can snap up a bargain.

I hope you are all as excited as I am to see how the 10th and 11th turn out. I can tell you it’s in good hands and all involved are working very hard. Special mention to captain Marsh who I can tell you has spent countless hours on the machinery helping out with his vice Brendan Hardy and many members helping with various jobs such as gardening and mowing so thank you to them.

All the greens staff are putting in big hours to get this done so to Steve and his team, thank you.

Last but not least I’m looking forward to the big Elvis show coming up on the 27TH April. I hope to see you there in my blue swades!

All the best and look forward to seeing you soon.

Cheers,

Matt.

Go Parra.

1971 – 1972

President: C. E. Warren Captain: M. T. Taylor

The year proved an excellent one financially for the Club, with a net profit of $8,491, slightly higher than the previous year. However it was forecast that a 15% wage increase for ground staff in January 1972 would impact on the next year’s performance.

It was with regret that the Committee received the resignation of the popular Club Professional, Ted Stubbs. David Fearns was appointed as the new professional and commenced in June 1972.

During the year the Club engaged the services of Golf and Recreation Planners Pty Ltd., course architects, to draw up plans for a new course layout to address the problems being encountered with the 3

rd hole and the 18

th fairway. On completion negotiations would then

commence with the Housing Commission and the Main Roads Department.

Secretary/Manager, Mrs Jones celebrated completion of 21 years service to the Club.

On the social scene, the Members Prawn Nights and Mixed Prawn Nights continued to be well patronised, but the New Years Eve Revel was discontinued due to a lack of support over the past few years.

Membership as at 31st March 1972 was:
