the establishment and strengthening of cooperation between the two chambers, the agreement reads in part.

According to Wikipedia, there are now around 400,000 Filipino Canadians in Canada, making them the third largest Asian Canadian group after the Indian and Chinese communities. They are also the largest Southeast Asian group in the country. Between the years of 2001 and 2006, the Filipino community in Canada grew from 308,575 to 410,695 or a growth of about 33%, compared to the rest of Canada, which only grew, by about 5%. On average, Canada received about 20,500 Filipino immigrants every year from 2001 to 2006. Assuming this growth rate continued, the Filipino-Canadian populace was expected to hit 500,000 by 2010.

In 2010, the Philippines were the largest source country for immigrants to Canada. There are app rox ima te ly 7 ,500 Canadians residing in the Ph i l ipp ines . The Philippines is now Canada’s main supplier of skilled immigrants, with over 500,000 Filipinos already working across Canada.

Total trade between the two countries reached C$680.14 in the f irst six months of 2012, and totalled C$1.456 billion for the whole of 2011, according to the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada. In 2011, Canadian merchandise exports to the Philippines were valued at CAD $554.6 million, while Canadian imports from the Philippines stood at CAD $915.8 million.

Just last month, Xinhua news agency reported

President Benigno S. Aquino III and visiting Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper agreed to further increase trade between the two countries. At a joint press meeting after their bilateral talks, both leaders stressed the importance of raising bilateral trade, which reached about $1.5 billion in 2011.

" O u r g o v e r n m e n t i s t ak ing ac t i ons t o a g g r e s s i v e l y e x p a n d commercial relations with the entire Asia Pacific region. We're doing so to help create jobs, economic growth and a better quality of life both in Asia and in Canada," Harper said.

"The Philippines has thus become an important economic par tner for Canada. In 2011, bilateral trade reached nearly $1.5-half billion. Our hope is to build on this strong and expanding commercial relationship," the Canadian leader added.

"We look fo rward to increasing trade and investment with Canada," Aquino said in response.

Canada's trade and investment relationship wi th the Ph i l ipp ines spans many s ec to r s . Canadian companies with expertise in information a n d c o m m u n i c a t i o n s technology, aerospace and defence, power generation (renewable energy), and natural resource extraction a re in a pos i t ion to take advantage of new opportunities within these sectors. In addition, the market for agricultural products in the Philippines continues to be robust, with significant potential for growth within the processed food and beverage sub-sector and franchises.

Those who have much can learn everything from those who share without

having anything. Our simple way of sharing

our blessings this Christmas especially those street children who have struggled to feel the existence of Christmas and the love they desired too.

The CDO Street Tutorial Advocacy organized an alternative Christmas celebration through Pasko’ng Pakigsadya in the light to make them smile this Christmas with the helped of the Government Association of Certified Accountants, Social Work students of Lourdes College, XU KKP Volunteers, XU Economics Society, XU NSTP students and different volunteers in Cagayan de Oro last December 19,2012.

The unseen smile of the street children were pronounced when they shared the solidarity of friendship during the celebration.

Traditionally, we celebrate Christmas through family reunions, friends, and officemates and even spend expensive parties.

We celebrate because of the nativity of Jesus. It is the time

of advent season when we are busy preparing our parties, gifts, vacation, family bonding, etc. but the season of advent is the time of preparation of the coming of our savior.

The angels come and sing the joyful songs of praise. A time to celebrate joyful hearts, mends the brokenness of our families, liberate us from our freedom, and engage us for forgiveness.

However, tracing back then the present situation of the society, there are people who are suffered from poverty, abuses, injustices, economic breakdown, corruption, child labor, political inconveniences, natural disasters and a lot of suffering.

How our fellow Filipinos celebrates their Christmas when they are experiencing their own struggles of misery? How can we bridge them to mend this brokenness of their hearts? Are we doing something to embrace their happiness? These are some of the questions that we need to ponder this Christmas.

In the spirit of Christmas we will always share our gesture of generosity to our fellowmen.

We always humble our hearts to the poor and open our hands to help. The joy of the heart is coming from the humble servant and the happiness of the self is coming from the act of generosity.

The essence of Christmas is about love. Let me borrow from the thoughts of Camilo Marivoet that love makes no demands, it only invites.

Genuine love is unselfish. It is very attentive to people. Love makes no demands on them, it does not order people around, does not use them for our own purposes.

Love is at the service of other people. Thus, showing our genuine love to others is a selfless desire to make them human.

This is how Christmas all about.

Let us always remember that through our deepest sincerity to love each other especially the children who are deprived from this love is our way of comforting the brokenness of their hearts.

Our greatest hope is to bridge them from the inconveniences and allow them to value of the gift of life.

Music for the Holidays

Emerald green is inEvery year, one

particular color becomes dominant and people from the fashion industry predicts that this year, we will see a lot of greens and emerald will be the color of choice from ready-to-wear, to haute couture and even in interior design.

Green denotes a calm energy and a relaxed vibe. This splash of color is needed with a lot of stressful things going on these days.

Aside from that, going

back to more natural shades are a welcome sight to behold amidst the deluge of bright colors and numbing hues.

The rise of the QR CodeQuick response code or

that square maze looking bar code in some print ads and product labels are actually laden with some information and some marketing schemes. In first world countries, the QR code is slowly on the rise.

They even now have

It is two days before 2012 ends but it feels like the month of December just started. A busy month for all of

us right? Whether you are a student, employee, business man or healthcare provider at some point you were or you are still busy with the Christmas celebration, reunions, parties are

just everywhere. I’m sure most of us these days just want to stay at home and do nothing but sleep and be a couch potato at least for a day and do a movie marathon. It’s nice to have plenty of parties but on the other hand it’s also very exhausting especially when you’re performing. Agree musicians? It’s money but it also boils down to

our health. Better watch out, I’m sure no one would want to spend the next days at the hospital. Personally I’m taking it slow because I need rest and as I continue do this allow me to share some of my music that would surely make you relax, reflect and re charge as the year ends.

WORDS & NOTES DeBBie CaBaGUe

Gadgets will still be in, earth colors are making a comeback and wireless connectivity is changing the way we do things.

So much of what we do and what we have had changed over the past couple of months.

Buses are now equipped with wifi, smartphones are getting smarter, Korean culture taking the world by storm, and the political and economic landscapes are evolving.

So what’s in store for every Juan come 2013? What are the possible things to look-out for?

Here are a few fearless forecasts:

digital supermarket where you just point your camera on the QR code and you can instantly purchase the item indicated in the code. Clever, huh?

If you are keen, here in the country, ads posted on national dailies are now bearing QR codes as well, either to avail of a discount or to share more info on a certain promo blitz.

Want to have one of your own QR code scanner? You can download one for free via app store or android market.

Booming local fashion industry

The economy is doing great lately and analysts predict that we will become the newest toast of Asia.

Well, that means more businesses for everyone!

For the fashion industry, it means that

more people will be able to afford specially made clothes and are willing to explore fashion trends.

This will also be good news for photographers, models, makeup artists, agents and scouts!

From our shores to the rest of the world, Philippine ingenuity will take the runways of the world, one garment at a time.

More Facebook less SMSTrends in 2012 have

shown that SMS (aka text messages) sent per day are lesser than the previous daily traffic posted by our country in the past years.

The decline was attributed to the use of mobile internet and lower costs of making phone calls.

I believe this is also going to decline even more as network providers are scrambling to position themselves as the best

and fastest mobile data provider thus hurling promo after promo of unlimited data and Facebook surfing.

It may not be the end of SMS just yet but social media giant Facebook is just beginning to become even bigger.

Yup, it’s still K-popIt was just a few years

ago that K-Pop (Korean Pop) culture invaded our TV screens, hairstyles and wardrobe choices.

I think they are bound to stay. Even local telenovelas are affected by the Korean bug.

It’s a good thing though because now we are seeing fast-paced, better executed soap series thanks to the influence of our Asian neighbor.

This fascination with their lifestyle, clothing and beauty products are just starting to make an upswing so we expect

more invasions in the coming months.

High Tide of the Pinoy Pride

With the current surge of Pinoy achievements in different fields and thus taking the world by storm, the new breed of Filipinos are starting to appreciate the skills, artistry, ingenuity and craftsmanship of their own kind.

From beauty pageants, sports, entrepreneurship and in the arts, Pinoys are becoming a force to reckon with.

So, there you have it my dear readers.

2013 will be a mix of something new and a remix of something old.

Whatever comes our way, let us embrace change and adapt to the times without losing our own identity and pride.

Have a great year ahead everyone! Cheers!

1. We are the reason (AVALON) – a song that most of us have heard over the years that make us realize the ultimate reason of the cross.

2. Oh holy night (JOSH GROBAN) – a classic hit that we all love, the melody and the lyrics is perfect.

3. Give love on Christmas day (YOLANDA ADAMS) – has been revived many times, but still sounds great and heart warming.

4. I believe (NATALIE GRANT) – one great song for the real essence of Christmas.

5. Grown Up Christmas List (KELLY CLARKSON) – a beautiful reminder not only to want material things but to think of others as well.

6. Have yourself a merry little Christmas (MICHAEL BUBBLE) – very soothing and relaxing.

7. White Christmas (MICHAEL BUBBLE/ SHANIA TWAIN ) – a song that will make you want to sing, jolly yet soothing.

8. Feliz Navidad (MICHAEL BUBBLE/ THALIA) – great tandem, you’ll love their version for sure

9. Blessings ( LAURA STORY) – a prayer song that reminds that each of us is more than blessed

10. Seasons of love (RENT) – Christmas should be felt whole year round, because love is available in Christ each day of the year.

“Love is a gift from up above, share love, spread love... measure your life in love”

Quezon, Bukidnon - Project Angel Tree literally lighted a child’s home in Barangay Mibando, Quezon, Bukidnon.

Through the generosity of the First Bukidnon Electric Cooperative, Inc. (FIBECO) management, which is one of the benefactors of the “Pamaskong Handog-Alay sa Kapwa 2012” Angel Tree Project spearheaded by the LGU-Quezon, the longtime dream of a child became a reality.

T h i s e x t r a o r d i n a r y Christmas “wish” was written on a piece of paper collected by the PESO, Ms. Judith Las Piñas during the Project Launching on 6 December 2012 at the lobby of the Quezon Municipal Hall, and handed to FIBECO.

Without hesitation, Mr.

Oscar Quimque, FIBECO General Manager immediately sent a team of company electricians and effected the house wiring and meter tapping installation to the house of Janelle Postrero, 11 years old and a Grade 5 pupil at the Quezon Central Elementary School (QCES).

Mrs. Jeaneva Postrero, Janelle’s mother was teary-eyed when asked for a short word of thanks during the programme.

She said that the gift was unexpected, having experienced electricity in their home for the first time.

Janelle quips, “with my wish granted, magig ing maliwanag na talaga ang pasko namin…salamat sa FIBECO, LGU-QUEZON at sa Project Angel Tree.”

Supervisor of First Vita Plus a food networking company, who sponsored prizes of the Parol contest.

Dire Husi staff Axelrose Casilac, also gave his best in assisting Casiño throughout the event, including Erwin Reyes, the human statue and Rodolfo Eroy.

“I’m so happy because I can feel I’m part of the event since I was able to help making it to reality, a success and peaceful one. I also meet new people and it has been a great learning experience. It bridge to the fulfillment of my dreams in becoming a professional artist, Casilac said in a phone interview.Countdown for the Winners

Reminiscing the Filipinos get to together festivities where every town involves in several competitions, like this event to celebrate Christmas where Filipino spirit can be felt. To complete the night celebration here

are the winners. Tata Magsalay, as one of the Lantaka

challengers won 500 pesos as the 3rd placer, Miguel Quijada got the 2nd place winning 1,000 and 1st prize won by Marichu Suaren, also got the 2nd prize for the Parol and Belen making contest.

On other hand, Rodolfo Eroy won the 3rd place in Belen making contest with Tata Magsalay who took-over the 1st prize in both Parol and Belen contest.

Winners also received gift packs and most of the participants came from zone 7 of barangay Puerto. Darling of the crowd

The irresistible performance of Emmanuel Panganiban, member of CDO Beatbox brings crowd to their feet as he performed the trending Gangnam Style (K-pop single by the South Korean musician PSY), Boom Boom Pow by Black Eyed Peas and

his own style. I saw every move he makes and

it draws everyone’s attention with the spine-tingling dance of the next performer Miguel Quijada who performed using an artificial lights.

Crowd’s reaction makes noises like Lantaka who used to be fireworks for the local and with the overlooking view of Puerto especially at night adds-up to people’s excitement to the event. “The surroundings are wonderful and they were able to preserve the trees. They really took care of it with the breathtaking overlooking view of Puerto, said Panganiban.”

The event does not only bring a smile to the people in Puerto who attended but it also touches a young artist’s heart being able to perform.

“I’m very happy Rhyan Casiño invited me in this event because I experienced a lot of new things and I had fun, said Emmanuel Panganiban.”

CPO is one of the youngest and busiest orchestras in the country. Together with the Japanese orchestra UUU, they have mounted several concerts in Cebu City in the hopes of bringing classical music closer to the hearts of the people.

Aside from the great music, this concert is in celebration of the founding Anniversary of liceo U as well as a benefit show for

the environmental advocacies of the university implemented through her partner institution, Safer River life Saver Foundation. Portion of the ticket proceeds will be donated to the foundation to help sustain the projects they are implementing for the river communities along the banks of the Cagayan de Oro River.

For seat reservations, please feel free to contact the Office of Cultural Affairs of liceo de Cagayan University through (088) 8584093 to 95 local 109 or call 09177088483.
