An engaging keynote speaker will launch this year’s conference, as he shares personal anecdotes about his illustrious career as a businessman, professor and politician. Professor Landry holds degrees in law, economics and finance, and was a partner in a Montreal law firm when he was elected to the National Assembly of Quebec. A former professor at the University of Quebec, he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations in the early 90s, He subsequently held the role of Minister for Finance and Economic Development prior to becoming Premier of Quebec. Mr. Landry will discuss the national and international financial and economic circumstances responsible for the global economic crisis, and share his perspectives on a model for change. Q and A to follow.

The sources and nature of financing available to businesses are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Public debt issuances,subordinated debt markets, mezzanine debt facilities and equity participation, with or without an IPO, represent some of theoptions. Complex questions have arisen pertaining to such facilities, particularly during a time of financial crisis. What happenswhen businesses are confronted with financial difficulties? Who are the creditors? What are their interests? And how will those interests impact a restructuring? The answers to these questions, and various financing solutions will be explored.

The insolvency and restructuring profession is affected by government policy and legislation and it is therefore vital that, as a professional body, we remain relevant to those championing for legislative reform, including political decision-makers within Parliament. Understanding the rules and limits surrounding political strategy and lobbying are essential. Mr. Bazin willdiscuss why being positioned as a thought leader, impartial voice of reason and credible resource is central in the context of government policy making.

Mr. Boucher will discuss why positioning an organization to mitigate the negative impact of a crisis, and conversely capitalize on positive events is vital to managing a corporate brand image and public opinion.

EDC supports and promotes a key driver of the Canadian economy - a healthy export marketplace. While insolvency and restructuring professionals seldom experience commercial proceedings involving the EDC as a lender, guarantor or insurer of an insolvent enterprise, this can occur. Mr. Simard will discuss the role, issues and implications when the EDC is involved with exporters in insolvency proceedings

Leisure ActivitiesCharlevoix is renowned for its agro-tourism and fine dining, sospend a leisurely afternoon touringthe Gourmet Flavour Trail, wherelocal producers share farming and processing secrets, and masterfulchefs incorporate regional ingredients to create unique culinary pleasures. Explore theFerme Basque de Charlevoix, a traditional foie gras duck-breedingfarm. Sample the Belgian-inspiredbeers of the MicrobrasserieCharlevoix. Discover the art ofcheese-making at the LaiterieCharlevoix and enjoy a tasting witha glass of locally produced wine.

Don’t miss this incredible sea experience. Adventure out to theSaguenay-St. Lawrence Marine Parkwith an experienced guide and zipalong in a Zodiac boat. You couldsee up to 13 species of whales, including friendly belugas and bluewhales, the largest animal known to have ever existed.

Youth ProgramsCAIRP is offering half-day, age-appropriate programs, for children from 4 to 16 years of age,during the conference. Activities include swimming, mini-golf,movies, arts and crafts, and games. Babysitting services are also available.

The Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu Reservations

CAIRP has been allocated a block of casually chic standard rooms ($169/night single/double)for conference attendees. Deluxe rooms are also available ($229/night single/double) offeringa breathtaking view of the St. Lawrence River, or the magnificent vista of Charlevoix. Choosefrom the comfort of a king size or oversized two queen-bedded room. Select rooms includeJacuzzi tubs for the ultimate in relaxation, along with windows that open. A credit carddeposit is required to reserve for one night or more.

Reservations are guaranteed until 11:00 pm on arrival day. Check-in time is 4:00 pm, check-outis 11:00 am. Rates are subject to a $2.00/night hospitality tax, 5% GST and 8.5% ProvincialSales Tax. There is no charge for children under 18 years old to share a parent’s room, tomaximum of 4 individuals per room. Charlevoix is a popular tourist destination. Please bookearly. From Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport take Autoroute Félix Leclerc or follow the direction for Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré. Continue on route 138 East until you arrive in La Malbaie - Pointe-au-Pic (90 minutes). Continue along the St. Lawrence River on Boulevardde Comporté. Cross the train tracks and continue until you arrive at the Chemin des Falaisesintersection. Turn left on Chemin des Falaises and continue along this road until you see Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu and the Casino de Charlevoix. Driving time approximately 2 hours.
