Hindu calendar is a collective name for most of the lunisolar calendars and solar calendars used in India since ancient

times. It is based on the Vedic astronomy and measures time with the use of tropical zodiac arc and the four Cardinal

Poles of Equinoxes and Solstices. The Vedic texts such as Brihad Samhita were able to calculate the most accurate

timings for Equinoxes and Solstices.CalendarHINDU

The ancient Chinese Lunar calendar is unique in terms of the sciences that it implies as well as the significance it holds

in Chinese culture. The calendar draws upon the sciences of astronomy and geography with regards to how it

functions. The other culturally important aspect of the ancient Chinese calendar is the zodiac animals that are

assigned to each year.

The Tibetan calendar is a lunisolar calendar. The Tibetan year is composed of either 12 or 13 lunar months, each

beginning and ending with a new moon. A thirteenth month is added every two or three years, so that an average Tibetan

year is equal to the solar year. The calendar is based on the Sri Kalachakra Tantra (Wheel of Time Tantra), which was

translated into Tibetan from Sanskrit in 1027 A.D.

The Gregorian calendar, also called the Western calendar and the Christian calendar, is internationally the most

widely accepted civil calendar. It was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII, after whom the calendar was named,

by a decree signed on 24 February 1582. The Gregorian calendar was adopted initially by the Catholic countries

of Europe, with other countries adopting it over the following centuries.

The Julian calendar was in predominant use in most of Europe during 45 BC. The Julian calendar was used for

calculating the dates of moveable feasts, including Easter. The calendar year was intended to approximate the tropical

(solar) year. Although Greek astronomers had known that the tropical year was a few minutes shorter than 365.25 days,

the calendar did not compensate for this difference. CalendarJULIAN

SEPTEMBER

In ancient Greece there was no single, common calendar but instead every city-state had its own calendar system. The

relatively well known is the calendar system of Athens. It comprised of 12 moon-based months, each having 29.5 days

on average. In practice that meant that each year had 6 months of 30 days and 6 months of 29 days placed in an

alternating fashion.CalendarGREEK

The Maya calendar, is a system of calendars, used in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. The Maya calendar uses three

different dating systems in parallel, the Long Count, the Tzolkin (divine calendar), and the Haab (civil calendar).

Of these, only the Haab has a direct relationship to the length of the years. These systems determined the times for the

most basic functions of early societies such as agriculture and the celebration of religious events.CalendarMAYAN

In both astrology and historical astronomy, the zodiac is a circle of twelve 30° divisions of celestial longitude that are

centered upon the ecliptic i.e. the apparent path of the Sun across the celestial sphere over the course of the year.

Essentially, the zodiac is an ecliptic coordinate system, which takes the ecliptic as the origin of latitude and the position

of the sun at vernal equinox as the origin of longitude.Calendarzodiac

The Aztec calendar is the calendar system that was used by the Pre-Columbian people of central Mexico.

It consisted of a 365-day calendar cycle called xiuhpohualli (year count) and a 260-day ritual cycle called

tonalpohualli (day count). These two cycles together formed a 52-year "century," sometimes called the "calendar

round".

The Babylonian calendar was a lunisolar calendar with years consisting of 12 lunar months, each

beginning when a new crescent moon was first sighted low on the western horizon at sunset. It also

had an intercalary month inserted as needed by decree. The calendar is based on a Sumerian

predecessor preserved in the Umma calendar of Shulgi (c. 21st century BC).

The ancient Egyptian calendar was invented over 5000 years ago. It was originally based on the

lunar cycle of 12 months, which the Egyptians grouped into three seasons of four months each

to coincide with the rise and fall of the waters of the Nile or the heliacal rising of the star Sirius,

the brightest star in the sky, based the year on the cycle of its reappearance.
