Hello Everyone,
Thankyou everyone for your support of this year’s Bookfair. We have
had a very busy admin area this week as people browse through the
books and goodies. It has been wonderful watching families looking
through the books, discussing the authors and titles and then selecting
the books they are going to buy. Fantastic effort everyone.
A reminder that you can bring your Woolworths Earn and Learn stickers into the school
office. There is a box to put your stickers or your sheet into. There is also a Paynesville
Primary School box in the supermarket. This is a simple way for our school to secure
new sports equipment.

Grade 5 Excursion to the Bairnsdale Morass
The grade 5 and 6 classes have been learning about birds. As a part of this work they have had guest
speakers talking to them at school about the types of birds found in our local area. On Wednesday the
grade 5 students went to the Morass where they met with East Gippsland Water staff and learned
about the process of treating water and the role that the Morass plays in that. The students then
walked through the Morass with local bird watching expert Chris Healey. Chris showed the students
how to identify and observe birds. The students loved the day and they enjoyed the boardwalk out to
the bird hide. Who would have guessed that Brock Liversidge and Chris Healey hare a love of Birds of
Paradise and they are both very knowledgeable about them. Finally – the grade 5 stduents would like
to thank Jacqui Teague (Ayla’s mum), Peter Blackwell (Jorja’s dad) and Mel Selleck (Tom’s mum) for
coming on the excursion to support the students. Well done everyone. PS – after the Morass visit the
grade 5 class went to the Archery Park where they played Laser Tag! For the record the best female
player was Jacqui who set a record score. It was a wonderful day that reminded us that there are many
wonderful places to visit right on our doorstep.

Bush Dance Coming Up: Wednesday Aug 12th 6pm – 8pm
Families are invited to join us in the school hall for a good old fashioned bush dance. Local bush band “Just
Fiddling Around” will be playing and a good night will be had by all. There is no cost – just bring your dancing
shoes.
Basketball Results this week
What a fantastic night at the basketball on Tuesday night.
The Paynesville Blue Girls played the Flames and won by a single point in a very closely fought game. Special
mention must go to Elizabeth Stevens who played a terrific game – an out of bounds specialist!
The Paynesville Gull Girls played the Go Girls and won by 4 points. Luke would like to highlight Jessica Stevens
who played her best game of the season.
The Paynesville Blue Boys played Fast and Furious in the game of the season so far. In a game that kept
everyone on the edge of their seat we eventually won by 2 points. It was the little guys – Harper, Lachie L, Gus
and Andrew who really set the tone with excellent defence. If you ever want to feel old and slow – come a long
and watch Kohan play basketball – he is amazing.
The Paynesville Gull Boys played the Wild Cats in another tough game. In the end Paynesville lost by 19 points.
Steven McKinnon had a great game with Ben Bockmann grabbing a bagful of rebounds.
Well done everyone!!!
Our Chinese friends arrive on August 8th. They will be tired after their 14
hour flight.
