Skill Level: Intermediate Finished Quilt Size: 47" x 62"

Please read all instructions before beginning. Pre-washing recommended for hand dye only. Pre-washing NOT

recommended for other fabrics.

Yardages and Cutting WOF is 42" width of fabric from selvage edge to selvage edge. Remove as little fabric as possible when trimming

selvages and squaring strip ends.

1 Call of the Wild Leopard panel • Trim to 27 1/2" x 42 1/2".

7/8 yard leopard spots • 5 strips 2 1/2" x WOF for border.

• 4 strips 2" x WOF; trim to 2 strips each 42 1/2"

and 30 1/2" for panel framing.

1/2 yard blue hand dye • 1 strip 6 1/4" x WOF; cut into (6) 6 1/4"

squares, then cut twice diagonally to make

24 triangles.

• 1 strip 4" x WOF; cut into (6) 4" squares.

1/2 yard cream stone • 1 strip 6 1/4" x WOF; cut into (4) 6 1/4"

squares, then cut twice diagonally to make

16 triangles.

• 1 strip 4" x WOF; cut into (10) 4" squares.

1 1/8 yards brown stone • 3 strips 5 7/8" x WOF; cut into (17) 5 7/8"

squares, then cut in half diagonally to make

34 triangles.

• 6 strips 2" x WOF for border.

5/8 yard caramel stone • 6 strips 2 1/4" x WOF for binding.

3 5/8 yards of 42" backing fabric OR

4 1/2 yards of directional fabric • 2 strips 63" x WOF OR

• 2 strips 78" x WOF for directional fabric

OR

1 3/4 yards wide backing fabric • 1 piece 63" x 78"

Batting • 1 piece 63" x 78"

Piecing the Units Use a 1/4" seam allowance for all stitching. Press seams as directed.

1. Sew cream triangles to opposite sides of each 4" blue square. Press seams toward the triangles. Add brown

triangles to the angled edges of each pieced strip to complete (6) 5 1/2" x 10 1/2" A units. Press seams toward the

triangles.

A Unit — Make 6

2. Stitch blue triangles to opposite sides of each 4" cream square. Press seams toward the triangles. Add brown

triangles to the angled edges of each pieced strip to complete (10) 5 1/2" x 10 1/2" B units. Press seams toward the

triangles.

B Unit — Make 10

3. Referring to the diagrams on the next page, sew blue and cream triangles together on 1 short edge. Press

seam toward the blue triangle. Add a brown triangle to complete (1) 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" C unit. Press seam toward the

brown triangle. Repeat to make a second C unit. Set aside the remaining blue and cream triangles for another

project.

C Unit — Make 2

Completing the Quilt

1. Sew the 2" x 42 1/2" leopard spots strips

to the long sides of the panel and the 2" x 30 1/2"

strips to the top and bottom to complete the

30 1/2" x 45 1/2" framed panel. Press seams

toward the strips.

2. Stitch 3 A units end to end to make a

5 1/2" x 30 1/2" strip. Press seams to 1 side.

Repeat to make a second strip. Sew the strips to

the top and bottom of the framed panel. Press

seams toward the framed panel.

3. Sew 5 B units end to end and add a C unit

to make a 5 1/2" x 55 1/2" side strip. Press seams

to one side. Repeat to make a second side strip.

Stitch the strips to the long sides of the panel

section to complete the 40 1/2" x 55 1/2" pieced

center, turning the right strip as shown. Press

seams toward the panel section.

4. Sew the 2" x WOF leopard spots strips

short ends together to make a long strip. Press

seams to one side. Cut into 2 strips each 55 1/2"

and 44 1/2". Sew the longer strips to the long

sides of the pieced center and the shorter strips to

the top and bottom. Press seams toward the strips.

5. Repeat step 4 with the 2" x WOF brown

strips to complete the top, cutting 2 strips each

59 1/2" and 47 1/2".

6. If using 42" backing fabric, remove the

selvage edges from the backing pieces. Join the

pieces on the long edges with a 1/2" seam

allowance. Press seam open. Trim to make the 63" x 78" backing piece.

7. Layer the quilt top with the backing and batting pieces. Quilt as desired. Trim batting and backing even with

the top.

8. Join the caramel stone hand-dye binding strips on the short ends with diagonal seams to make a long strip.

Press seams in one direction. Press the strip in half along the length with wrong sides together. Bind the quilt edges

using your favorite method to complete the quilt.
