CALL THE SHOTSFEMALE POWER THROUGH FILM

The ICFF has always and unequivocally been

committed to representing a strong united community.

Call the Shots was established by Mara Cataldi in 2018,

and now again in its current season, more than ever,

the project will represent, sustain and promote the role

of women in today’s society, in every aspect, in every

fi eld, in every sector.

Call The Shots is our new annual event that, through

fi lm, will celebrate and honour women’s achievements

in thought, leadership and action. Above all, through

this event, the ICFF will champion women’s ideas

because, we believe, ideas are powerful forces for

change.

The evening begins with a PRE-MOVIE RECEPTION, which

above all allows for meeting up with old friends and

making new ones, all avid moviegoers.

The reception is followed by a PANEL DISCUSSION from

9:00 pm to 9:30 pm, involving women and men from

various backgrounds but all with one thing in common: the

desire to promote through focused discussion the issues

pertaining to women in today’s society.

The evening then concludes with the

SCREENING of a fi lm on topic.

ICFF strongly believes that it’s time to use the power

of moving images and story telling, to inspire and

empower young females and future generations.

Our Call The Shots presentations are sure to, not

only entertain, but also stimulate and educate.

Through fi lm and other related activities, this year the ICFF commits to

promoting the visibility of female driven cinema, in its content, and in its

production. We will unhesitantly dedicate ourselves in encouraging the

professional development of women in the fi lm industry so that this might

assist in the removal of barriers to women accessing and participating in

all aspects of the cinematic experience throughout North America.

We will continue to work with our partners and sponsors in advancing

recognition and representation of women throughout this fi eld while at

the same time strengthening our community by captivating and engaging

audiences, cultivating new cinephiles, providing educational opportunities

and celebrating our collective humanity through the art of fi lm.

2019-CALL THE SHOTTHE NAME OF A WOMAN BY MARCO TULLIO GIORDANA

Nome Di Donna tells the story of Nina, a young single mother who at

the beginning of summer decides to leave Milan and move with her

daughter to a village in the lower Lombardy region. Here Nina fi nds

employment in a prestigious private clinic for the elderly, where she has

the opportunity to relate with the other women who work there, some

Italians and many foreigners. This elegant and almost fairy-tale place,

however, conceals an uncomfortable secret, linked to the murky system

of favors set up by Marco Maria Torri, the manager of the structure.

When Nina fi nds out everything, she will initially be ostracized by her

colleagues who are worried about losing their job. Soon, however, they

will fi nd all the strength to face the director and embark on a thrilling

battle for their rights and their dignity as women.

ceases to amaze us with her vast

and varied body of work.
