It is hard to believe that the
summer is coming to an end. In the middle of
everything that is going on in our world right
now, time keeps moving forward. Nothing
drove that point home to me more than wor-
ship on July 25th. Thirty-five years of ordained
ministry, twenty-five of which has been spent
right here at Zion. Thank you for recognizing that milestone in our ministry
together, for your kind words and cards, and for the dinner and the gift to
Eileen and me of travel (gift card to Liberty Travel!). It was a wonderful day,
and my two granddaughters were baptized as well! Thank you to so many of
you that worked hard to make all of that happen. You are special people with
a servant’s heart! Maybe most of all, thank you for your grace, understand-
ing, and for your willingness to share your lives with us in the context of
Christ’s love.
We have been through a lot together in twenty-five years,
and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
As we leave the summer behind and move into September, there is a
lot that we don’t know. When will we get control of this pandemic and be
able to lift restrictions that have affected how we do ministry? Will families
return back to worship after being away for so long? What about the choir
and singing? No one can answer these questions right now. The future al-
ways has an element of the unknown about it that can be, well frustrating
and concerning.
Yet hopefully, we have learned something over these last eighteen
months that will help: we care for one another and for our community, we
are more open to new ways of doing things than we thought, and Christ’s
love will continue to guide and empower us as a community and family of
faith. Here is to the next few months of being God’s people in this place.
Peace,
