Personal ProfileMy design approach is informed by my research in place identity, and an interest in a vernacular reinterpretation to create site and time-specific architecture. I strive to create atmospheres that promote mental and physical well-being through environmentally passive solutions and healthy materials, embracing sensory interaction and encouraging exploration. I design innovative architectural solutions with honest materials, appropiate to the rigorous analysis of contexts, client requirements and sustainable construction.

In my spare time I play guitar with a loop pedal, creating ‘walls of noise’, as my friend puts it. I also enjoy football, running, badminton, hiking, photography and travelling.

My portfolio reflects my proficiency to communicate design through sketching, presentation, technical detailing and construction package drawings. I can adapt and learn new CAD programs quickly and intuitively and have implemented procedures in practice to increase work-flow efficiency. I can also undertake measured building surveys, tender mobilisation and have had good on-site experience, working with contractors to resolve issues pragmatically and effectively.

Skills• Archicad 16• AutoCAD• Vectorworks• EcoDesigner• SketchUp Pro• Adobe Creative Suite• Artlantis• Podium• Vray

I have taken a lead design role on a number of small and large scale projects: designing, negotiating and preparing detailed schemes throughout all work stages. I have been fortunate enough to work with sustainably-conscious clients, realising contemporary design in some very sensitive sites within the Lake District National Park. Working closely with both directors has made me relish the responsibility to help manage a variety of projects. It has also given me the skills to employ BIM as a tool for project analysis, communication and efficient procurement.

An insightful nine month experience in the Netherlands working as part of the core design team on a variety of projects including small residential, social housing and large commercial schemes. Of the projects I worked on, I was individually responsible for model making and presentation drawings and was trusted to solely undertake design work of some smaller scale projects.

A house renovation with an architect provided on site experience that gave me greater appreciation and understanding for materials, detailing and construction methods.

Place Psychology ResearchMasters

Granton

Leith

My Masters dissertation examined current theories of place attachment and place identity to analyse the proposed Waterfront Development Framework. I identified physiological and psychological identity processes through physical, social, economic and political domains; scales of identity; and the functions of attachment.

Website Design

I took it upon myself to update the website for 2030 architects. I felt this was necessary to reinforce their reputation as THE design-orientated, sustainable architects in Cumbria, and optimised search engine indexing to strengthen their online presence.

With the old website, there were no enquiries. Now, through internet based media and better marketing design, we have had 18 written enquiries in the past 4 months and consistently receive around 40 visitors a week.

2030architect.co.uk

Page 13: Calum Robinson CV

Graphic Design

Having formatted and organised all the project images and text for the web site, it made sense to produce a practice brochure with a consistent graphic identity.

This emphasises 2030 architects professional image and is a simple tool to offer a potential client a hard copy of work, for them to look at at their own leisure.

I conceived and designed a simple, fun and engaging Christmas card quiz last year for clients and collaborators. Applicants had to identify all 18 iconic built silhouette forms in and then go on to 2030’s web site to submit their answers. The winner picked a charity of their choice to receive £100.
