Calvary, Jesus said the church at Sardis was dead.

The temple of Artemis was there. Many people

worshipped false gods and goddesses at the Temple …

but the church at Sardis was indifferent, hard hearted, and

stiff-necked—in a word, dead. Would Jesus say the same

to us? Is your relationship with Jesus routine or ritual?

Passionate or mere duty? Do you really care about Jesus

and people? Are we dead or alive? Jesus calls us to wake

up and repent!

Wayne Wilson (now deceased) gave me a 3x5 card

14 years ago when Calvary moved to

Osgood—the card is still on our

refrigerator, “A church Alive

is worth the drive!”

Children’s Ministry MATTERS At Calvary, we are committed to connecting kids to Jesus. Why?

Here’s just three reasons why ministry to children should be a

crucial focus for our church:

1. Children’s Ministry was a priority for Jesus. The disciples didn’t think it should be, but Jesus did. He made time to minister to children.

2. Children are the greatest mission field. Stats show that 85% of people who come to Christ do so before the age of 18. We must invest our time and resources where we will see the biggest harvest.

3. Children’s ministry is a connecting point for entire families. When you reach children, you touch parents. No matter how great the mission or vision of a church is, if children struggle to connect here, families will too. Are you passionate about seeing families know Jesus? Pray about sacrificially serving kids!

You can make a difference for children here at Calvary. Currently

our ministry has outgrown its leadership (praise God!) and we are

in need of volunteers in these areas:

o Sunday Morning Preschool Leaders (Group worship,

Bible time, and small groups)

o Wednesday Evening Cubby Leaders (AWANA program,

ages 3-5)

o Wednesday Evening Sparks Leaders (AWANA program,

grades K-2)

4 Keys to Hearing God’s Voice. Jesus said, “my sheep hear my

voice.” Yet many believers go their whole lives wondering if

they’ve ever received clear direction or encouragement from the

Spirit. Practical yet inspiring, 4 Keys combines the best of the

Word and the Spirit to help guide and ground believers in their

adventure to discern the voice of God. Join us Sundays starting

October 20 for this six-week study: we’ll meet at 5:00 p.m. at the

Motta home (2201 27 Ave. South Fargo). Contact Dave Motta

([email protected]) with questions or sign up at the

Information Center today.

Did you know that Operation Christmas Child distributes

shoebox gifts to children in more than 100 countries each year?

Through your generosity, pastors and community leaders

worldwide share the gospel, bless children, and implement “The

Greatest Journey” follow-up discipleship program. Contact Marty

Kranzler at 218-236-7716 to learn more!

Save the Date! Trunk-or-Treat is coming to Calvary Oct. 31. We’ll

be outside connecting with the community from 5:00-8:00 p.m.

Sign up at the Information Center to help with serving dinner,

decorating, and handing out candy.

We are excited to announce that Hermie Banico has been hired

as the Youth Minister at Calvary. Hermie has been coming to

Calvary for about 4 years now, along with his wife Jana and their

son, Ethan. He has many years of experience as a youth leader and

pastor both here in the states and in his home country, the

Philippines. He has been a youth leader on Blake's team here at

Calvary for the past 3 years. His heart is in ministry, specifically with

the youth, and he feels that God is calling him to this ministry in a

larger capacity than what he has been contributing thus-far. Hermie

started in this position on Tuesday, October 1. Welcome Hermie!

Thank You Calvary (from Blake & Becky Carlson): Our family was

greatly blessed by the cards, reception, and generous gifts you

blessed us with earlier this month. Calvary has been a constant

source of God’s grace in our lives and we are truly grateful for all the

experiences and memories we’ve shared with so many of you. We

are planning to continue in student ministry and are thrilled to see

Hermie Banico stepping forward to take the lead at Calvary. To God

be the glory!

All Hands on Deck! Our fall clean-up day is Saturday, October 12

from 8:00 a.m. to noon. We'll handle everything from light bulbs to

landscaping, with jobs for every age and mobility level. Donuts and

subs provided, come and go as your schedule allows. "From the

front sidewalks to the nursery bathrooms, let the name of the Lord be

glorified"! (Psalm 113:3, Trustee Translation).
