Student Placement Placement based on many criteria
Student placement is based on the understanding that students’ progress at different rates along a continuum relevant to their intellectual, social, emotional and physical growth. Very special attention is paid to the placement of students in classes for September. The objective is to arrange classes so that each student is in a positive learning situation, while each classroom has balanced student groupings. The following are some criteria used to make class placement decisions:
Workable Instructional Groups: age distribution, academic achievement, work habits, teaching/learning styles, special needs
Positive Social Groups: optimal peer relationships, boy/girl ratio, positive leaders
Additional Information: teacher recommendations, resource team recommendations, parent information
Should you have information regarding programming needs that should be considered by the teachers, please submit it in writing to my attention, Hindy Bieler, by Friday, April 25
th. The school’s organizational
model for the coming year will be shared at the April School Council Meeting.
The classroom teacher and resource team recommendations are given high priority and are followed wherever possible. Each teacher should have a fairly equal representation of students with varied strengths and needs. Please note that it may be impossible to meet individual requests and at the same time fulfill the school’s commitment to meeting the needs of all students.
**Projected June placement procedures and actual September results may lead to a re-examination and possible, and likely with current projected numbers, the re-organization of classes.
Spring Fair…is coming The biggest event of the year! We need your support…. Even if you can spare an hour on the day of the fair, we need you.

School Climate Surveys
Information is coming home this week. Please go on
line and fill out the survey at www.schoolclimate.ca. Help us to know your thoughts so we can plan better!
On March 28
th, between the hour of 2:00 and 3:00 pm.,
Cameron students joined in with thousands of others by participating in Earth Hour. Our school “powered down” by shutting off lights, computers, and all other devises using
electricity. This symbolic gesture is to raise awareness of global warming and the need to conserve and preserve the Earth for future generations.
Iranians consider No-Rooz as their biggest celebration of
the year. Before the New Year, they start cleaning their
houses and they buy new clothes. But a major part of New
Year rituals is setting the "Haft Seen" with seven specific
items. In ancient times each of the items corresponded to
one of the seven creations and the seven holy immortals
protecting them. All the seven items start with the letter
"S". These seven things usually are: Seeb (apple), Sabze
(green grass), Serke (vinager), Samanoo (a meal made out
of wheat), Senjed (a special kind of berry), Sekke (coin),
and Seer (garlic). Sometimes instead of Serke they put
Somagh (sumak, an Iranian spice).
Wheat or lentil representing new growth is grown in a flat
dish a few days before the New Year and is called Sabzeh
(green shoots). Decorated with colorful ribbons, it is kept
until Sizdah beh dar, the 13th day of the New Year, and
then disposed outdoors. A few live gold fish are placed in a
fish bowl. Mirrors are placed on the spread with lit candles
as a symbol of fire.
